  1. My setting would look like this: Sprain chance = 0.01% (of default) Sprain duration = 1000% Sprain can be cured with a bandaid = no sprain is extra crippling(somehow) = yes I want it to be rare but meaningful. At least I would try it that way. The way it currently is is you either accept that you will have four sprains all the time forever, or that you cannot go anywhere with more than a 1 degree slope. Or you just turn them off, which is my choice.
  2. I find separating your actual needs from the fluff and then making sure those needs are met is effective. After that if you determine what is dangerous for you(differrent for everyone) then you can find ways to mitigate that danger. Finding limiting factors is also important. Finding what slows you down, eats all your time, what you never have enough of, etc....then focusing on improving those areas. I know those are all general but that's how it works in every game. Plus everyone will be a little different
  3. Indeed. It's obvious nonsense for the most part. Kids if you're reading that post it's made by someone spreading garbage.
  4. I have found TLD to be strangely USA in it's choice of english. Calling pop soda for example. I just find it strange.
  5. Is that true? Gas doesn't freeze in TLD temperatures? I seem to recall gas I've left out for the winter has gone bad. I live in canada.
  6. It depends which dog food you get. Some I imagine would be fine.
  7. Conserving gas is a bad idea because it goes bad in under a year. If you were ever in a situation like the long dark you should totally use it as much as you want and can. Edit------ I don't have fishing because I turn it off.
  8. I find you already have unlimited food? I can't imagine running out. I don't think food preservation would make things any easier, if anything it would be a beginners trap for people to waste their time with. Unless it had other advantages such as reduced smell for travel. Female deer would be good. I like the idea of male deer being more rare and special with antler uses.
  9. I am always a fan of making things accessible and enjoyable for people. It doesn't seem whiney at all to me.
  10. That sounds nice, it's probably beneficial to your experience.
  11. Darkest dungeon is canadian? I didn't know that. I am looking forward to experiencing the howling darkness of the end. And yes, even as a canadian chugging 200ml of maple syrup would result in me feeling really sick.
  12. You can disable them in custom games, though many people don't like custom games because they cannot get the badges or whatever they're called. I don't understand ralph's fanatical desire to dictate the terms of other people's enjoyment but that's where we are. I am just fortunate that I don't care about badges.
  13. Not to the level they do in this game. It's not just twigs, it's little bits of snow, hills that are slightly too steep, rocks that are too close together, little boards or pipes or other debris, etc. I think my biggest problem is that the character in this game is significantly less capable than myself and with no clear indication of where I can and cannot go I often find myself trying something and doubling back while thinking how easy getting around that obstacle would be in real life. I think some of the problem may be that sometimes I can get over higher obstacles and sometimes I cannot. If I could never get over stuff higher than 2cm then I wouldn't try but it's just a roll of the dice for me. I dislike that.
  14. Yes having visual cues to tell you what you can and cannot do is common and good game design. For example in new tomb raider 1 there are those different rocks which you can use the picks on so you know where you can go and where you cannot. In stalker hills that are too steep to climb are a little darker. In TLD there is no indication what hills are too steep. There is that one type of wall that is climbable though and that is easy to see, so we are not guessing there at least. What sucks to me is that this game is very inconsistent. You can climb that 3m wall but can't step over a twig being the example for this thread. If we're a robot on wheels that's fine but just keep it the same so we know what's going on.
  15. I don't mind plastic bottles appearing out of nowhere because it's actually pretty similar to real life. Within a 5 second walk I have access to 24L of closed water storage. If I use other containers which are only kinda closed I must have well over 100L. Anyways I think it would be cool to be able to get water from waterfalls, the only problem is would it actually be something useful? Currently the only use I can see is if you're just starting the game and you cannot find matches or other fire starting materials. Is that worth putting the mechanic in for? I can't see myself hauling 20L of water from a waterfall back to base just to skip the melting process when I could collect a few sticks which are all over the place anyways. Maybe if we could collect it from ice fishing holes too it might help a little. The payoff for doing so is really small though, even in ideal circumstances. I don't think there would need to be any penalty because it doesn't or barely helps to do so. It's more of an immersion thing IMO. Actually for newer players it might help more and it certainly makes sense. I think for them it could be worth adding it in, along with sleeping anywhere without a bedroll.
  16. The water in that tank would have been frozen so bacteria wouldn't be doing anything. Now having to purify non-tank water, yeah that would be good.
  17. Even though I might not play it I don't mind them doing it. A lot of people like it and it was probably nice to work on something a little different for the people on the dev team. I doubt it was a high effort project anyways.
  18. Yes I have tried the mod(a lot). It's easier in that you can get that bit of extra freedom when you need it but misery is just overall harder than vanilla, especially with the extra little mod(s) I made for it. I don't think TLD is the same though because you don't need the same amount of movement. In TLD I think it would be more of a thing where you want to check what is on top of the hill so you drop the pack, go check, and come back for it. In terms of combat I don't think I would ever drop my pack because there is no reason to. Wolves either die immediately or lock you in place, bears move super slow or super fast, and moose don't attack unless you move into their space.
  19. I hope they do change sprains. I would like to enable them and enjoy them.
  20. You did a decent job with that trailer, I was surprised(in a good way). Though I was saddened by my fellow canadians using feet instead of metres. But yeah, the event looks somewhat interesting. I was originally not going to bother but now I am not sure. I will have to see when I have more time.
  21. There is a mod for STALKER called misery in which you can buy a quick release for your backpack so you can drop it very easily. I often wonder why our character wouldn't want such a thing.
  22. I think I would just break the windows or break the door down in the situation we are in in the game. Unless I wanted to stay in the place of course.
  23. I always forget stuff. In the game or real life it doesn't matter. In real life I have cargo pants and I keep what I need on me and everything I need in a single place when it's not on me. In TLD I always try to carry what I need on me to survive that cannot be obtained easily because if I drop it I will forget it. Things like fire wood, food, water are easy to obtain and I don't carry much of that if any.
  24. I was responding to this. I don't hate DLC in all cases and I was saying why I dislike paradox's way of doing it as an example. I usually don't buy games with DLC until they finish working on the game and release it all as a single package though. TLD was an exception in my wait until it's done thing though as I wanted to help fund development. I will occasionally do that for games that seem like they might be worth doing so for.
  25. I will forever disagree with that. But at least CEOs will like your way of thinking. Once they finish the game, and if the game is complete and well made, I am fine if they want to make expansions to the game. Just to clarify my dislike of paradox's DLC style is that the game they release for full price is a hollow shell. They carve up what should have been the full game into 50 pieces which all cost 20 dollars. I will never buy skylines or their new vampire game(which might just end up being terrible anyways) because of this. Not unless they package it all up and (because it's on steam) sell it for 7.50 or less. Or they can release DRM free and I will pay more, which they won't. It works for them though because they can get more money from fewer people.
