  1. Mostly that isn't in side the realm of suspect or rumor. It just bugs me when a company uses its funds for political purposes rather than the re-investing it in the arts. I just know that if any of the bigger companies had done what you have everyone would get up in arms about whether they should or not. I just look at hinterland and see a company deeply entrenched with the Liberal Party of Canada and those doctor people I forgot their name who last time I'm pretty sure is or were owned by what's his bucket in the LPC. I'm not saying anything wrong with the LPC, that's not relevant to the point. What I am saying is that things start get precarios when adherence to the beliefs of a party start driving art as opposed to an ernest dissection of topic (A trial is meaningless if you've already decided what the answer has be to fit the rest of what others think) and that it's a minor betrayal of trust to start spend company money in ways that your customers don't expect. I don't what it's like in Canada, but here in the U.S if a company gives money to anything directly that they don't explicitly state there going to do they get boycotted and because all things must have opposition more people flock too by their product. Remember EA's Dante's Inferno's sin to win competition when they to use this to their advantage. Postscribere. Yes I do know that now I'm starting to poke the proverbial bear. There are like three conversations happening in this topic and only one of them is even on topic. This is indeed getting to be an odd topic.
  2. I'm really not sure to begin here. I suppose I should start by addressing a common misconception. There is no industry standard for how much a customer should be worth, and I can't even think of a game that expected three hundred dollars of revenue on average from it's players. The only people who can expect anything in that realm per customer are the people who own the market places, so: Valve, Nintendo, Sony, Tencent, Microsoft and EA on the digetal side. I would also like to mention the big merchandising juggernauts, but those games are almost all owned companies by i've already mentioned the exception being ZeniMax and Activision-Blizzard who may or may not be owned be largely owned by Tencent. (note that is per customer meaning lifetime sales to a person.) I don't really know on that last bit which may discredit me, or you take that as I really do know what I am saying for the rest of the stuff which while I may be typing in a way that is clear to understand, I mean I've switched the topic a bit to make Odizzido not seem stupid when he said something that I can only hope what at least highly exaggerated, I really do know pretty well what I am saying in this case even though my sentences tend run on a little long and my forums account is still bounded to my dumb Youtube email that I use for submitting spread runs. Anyway back on topic, It really depends on a lot of factors, such as place in a franchise, consumer trends, platform, et cetera under which no conditions have existed that makes an estimate of three hundred dollars a month per copy sold or per customer something any company triple a or otherwise that has ever released a game before would make. Your heavily implying an all in your statement of "Worthless AAA garbage CEOs are lying scum" so, I would ask you to explain how you could denounce the achievements of the following current and past chief executive officers of . For your aid I'll even link there wikipedia pages since there are few you could make a case that they have failed their company in some way: David Baszucki, Michael Morhaime, Fusajiro Yamauchi, Robert A. Altman I could go on, but I really don't think I need to. As is easy to tell, many of these companies have been very successful as of late. That's only half what you said about them being lying scum well aside from those who don't make announcements very often like, Robert Altman who is probably not the first person you think of when you think of when you think of Bethesda. I'd like you to tell me when the following have been deceitful too their customers: David Baszucki, Michael Morhaime, Jamie Chung. "I don't understand how people can support AAA when there are companies that are so much better like hinterland.". First off hinterland, while having not having done anything remotely illegal to my knowledge.(I say that with my little knowledge of canadian law outside of border laws!(That exclamation mark is the closing thing your getting to an emoticon out of me.)) They have done a few moral questionable things that I won't name since Hinterland says not too and I like to respect their wishes on their platform, but if you have been paying attention you know what i'm talking about. As for "I don't understand how people can support AAA when there are companies that are so much better" Simple. These companies make some really great games. Fallout Three was a big inspiration for the Long Dark which was a triple a game. As you can see by my profile picture i'm a huge fan of starcraft two which is a triple a game. Any thing Shigeru Miyamoto as every breathed in the direction of has at least been serviceable. *insert Valve game here, was a rightfully deserved classic and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Postscribere. AAA is an informal classification used for video games produced and distributed by a mid-sized or major publisher, typically having higher development and marketing budgets. Not a label of good or bad, or shorthand for includes a form of alternative reavenu.
  3. I usually play on an xbox and I hit my targets nine times out of ten and on p.c I only hit about eight times in ten and by hitting the target I mean Landing the critical. The only thing I could see them changing to make shooting easier is making the sights easier to under stand for beginning players. I do wish that the sights would switch to iron sights on higher difficulties though.
  4. A similar system from a more civilized age.
  5. I wonder if hinterland Is still working on this. I mean I'm sure they "are working on it", but does this sort of thing really take that long to do. By all means episode four should be their first priority, but them taking so long to even make up their mind on something as superfluous as this is making me think their having some trouble with episode four. If I was hinterland I would more or less wing one one hour community panel two or three days after the launch of episode four (or If that is a long ways off than a week or two before it's launch.) In part as a reminder to pop on people's social media feed that the long dark exists and to show that hinterland is confident in the episode. I would rather see a quenu to ask live questions convention style, but taking pre written questions is easier and safer. If they were to do it live then they'd want to make sure to have someone from a few different teams, three or four people total, so that a question won't be ask that one don't have answer to and to help when one can't think of a satisfying answer of thee top of one's head. They could also take pre written and approved questions live(which the standard way of doing things these days.), but that might be to much work. In the end what do I know though. Well lots of things, but I have never work In public relations of any kind. I can only hope that hinterland knows what they are talking about better than me.
  6. I never have any problems with my amount of lanter fuel outside of the ultra early game, but then Again do way more fishing then you resource gobblers.
  7. Die. Sandbox is that easy. I don't see what the problem. I mean the game literally only has one failure state, so don't die and you'll alway not fail. How do does one do that? Easy don't play the game. If you want to have fun playing the game though, then that's a different story.
  8. Is it just that I am noticing it more because of the new "X joined recently" tag or are there actually more people joining than usual.
  9. Humph, kids these. I remember when we used to gather wood in a menu and deer looked like this .
  10. Don't be slow. That's all there is to it. Also what's an IMHO.
  11. Only the people below five hundred hours are sane. I say that as someone outside that category.
  12. @Stinky socksyou said "don't drop things when navigating in in the blizzard" as the solution to me saying "Make the direction thing face when dropped random so that navigating in a blizzard is actually challenging. " I am referring to when you drop a stick and it always faces north. Are you saying that should not use this trick and then the problem is solved? If so, that isn't exactly very constructive now is it. Or did you think I was complaining about accidently dropping thing in blizzards? If it was the first meaning then you should also know it isn't me at that I am worried about. I am good enough at the game I never get lost, but I worry about a new player finding this trick and then never experience getting truly lost in a blizzard.
  13. These are the ones I think the game would be improved by removing. Meat never truly spoiling. As i've said before and will say again, there more interesting survival decisions when food actually spoils. Such as having to time hunts and doing food rotations. (including fish) So you know how if you hunt one thing to often it's supposed to take longer to respawn. Well right now that effect is so minimal it might as well not even exist. In fact if hinterland did remove it 98% of players wouldn't even notice. this goes along with the first. One having to cycle through food sources or have multiple camps would give players in the mid game at least one routine breaking thing to do. The rate of decay should depend on difficulty of course and I do mean rate of decay. The respawn time should be exponentially decreasing as to give some leeway in the early game, but set unattentive players up for disaster later. Bait should have to be preemptive and not be effective at the last moment. This would make it where the build up to fight offers another tactical decision for the player even if they are just fleeing. Make the direction thing face when dropped random so that navigating in a blizzard is actually challenging. Most of the other ones either get solved by my suggestions or aren't really an issue. I'm sure there's some I'm not thinking about right now though.
  14. You should play it first. If you play it after getting good it is way to easy, even on hardened survivor.
  15. My game usually looks like this. concentrate all resources from desolation point in the hunting lodge, then move to the ice fishing hut just below, run out of resources. Move to forlorn muskeg, concentrate all the resources at the spence homestead, run out of resources. Move to Milton, hang out at the hermits cabin for a while, concentrate all the resources in the farmstead, run out of resources. Move to mystery lake concentrate all the resources the camp office, have a deep philosophical discussion with myself. Move to pleasant, concentrate all the resources in the farmers house, run out of resources. Move to timberwolf mountain, concentration all resources in the mountaineering hut, stop playing for a while. Hinterland release an update, run out of resources. Brave death in the new region, Make way back to Mystery lake or timber wolf mountain. That the run I have been on since 2017.
  16. The number one thing to remember about canada when visiting from the United Kingdom is that the monties may seem friendly but, their a whole lot tougher and meaner than the constables. In my experience at least.
  17. I'm sorry, but I can't take you seriously with that spelling.
  18. I think that meat shouldn't functionally last for ever and then add a preserving method. There are just so many interesting decisions that the current system nullifies once you know how it works. Such as deciding to try and save some of your long lasting foods for an emergency, having to time hunts based of your supplies, where to store food, what too hunt. Actually I think I will just make my own topic talking about a revamp to the spoilage system so, for here I will just say, yes. Edit: I got distracted so maybe not or at least not today.
  19. Your first mistake is trying to play a game on a macbook.
  20. This isn't related, but it it's funny how now Admins name profile says that "Admin is a moderator". I understand why that's the case. It's so that other people can't get away even for a time with pretending to be Admin. I still think that it's funny though.
  21. I don't think that they should auto despawn at the very least.
  22. The game is already not particularly difficult and the deaths it gives you are the emotional low point of the game that makes the desolation of the world feel more real, as well as allowing for that cathartic feeling of the homely house. Not to mention create tension from your fear of dying again. Hinterland doesn't need to undermine their design vision because you suck sometimes.
