  1. I think the that the game should be uncapped on how cold it gets over time leading to inevitable death.
  2. I always took those things as meaning that great bear is one of those islands in the golf alaska that is either owned by the Americans and want to be Canadian or are owned by the Canadians, but the bigger business there are American. I mean Carter Hydroelectric dam seems offly similar to the uka dam. Which was built by an American company on a I believe a Canadian island to provide power to the l the uka cannery, but don't quote me on that. If memory serves me correctly kodiak became an american island in 2004 any way.
  3. The long dark takes a similar role as solitaire for me and now I don't even like thinking about solitaire.
  4. If you haven't noticed the long dark isn't exactly striving photo realism. Every graphical improvement the long dark could have without changing its style could easily be done on generation eight hardware, or even seven. In fact you'd probably be fine on generation six. Actually you might be able to run the current version of the game on the Dreamcast. As for ray tracing there are a large hand full of less intensive ways of having dynamic lighting that could add all the texture and depth that the long dark could ever want.
  5. Okay let's think about what work hinterland would have to do to implement this very minor feature. Their are nine gloves with four conditions each meaning hinterland would need to make thirty six new models. They would need then to make an animation for removing the three mittens and improvised hand wraps for the four guns (the bow counts as a gun.) . same with wolf struggles. They would have to make new new models for the wolf fights(though they could still use the same animation cycles.). If they did you guys would then complain about not seeing your boots or even legs. They would need to be resizing-non stop for each item that you can hold. I've probably missed something to. Now let's look at some other parts of the game that don't have skin changes or animations. Item condition outside of the inventory, your legs, fishing, picking up items, opening doors, opening containers, starting fires, corps condition repairing, sleeping. In other words the long dark is a rather minimalist game that doesn't need all the bells and whistles. I know that most those animations aren't in the game for a host reasons. It would be cool, but it really isn't worth the effort.
  6. it so that you can make the tactical decision to not craft it, so it will weigh less.
  7. I think it's a good thing that you have to do some work if you want to figure out exactly how many calories you have. Not to mention that the UI is getting bogged down as it is.
  8. I do wish progress wasn’t so obtuse.
  9. This one https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Misty_Falls_Cave So ya but, framed more cinematically.
  10. Corpses sit that way for two reasons. To show how their fear lead to their death and so we don't see how uncanny their faces are. And not in a frozen corps sort of way.
  11. Here's my underground. I ended up going for more of a baron and haunting feel. With just less I also got ride of the crystal since I don't like adding assets. But, it's fine that you suggested them. Maybe more like the bioluminescent cave in episode three. Okay so I left one in but, I think that it might just a cool doodad.
  12. What my be fun is a small little map contest. We just make maps and then who gets the most likes wins. What do they win. A small amount of respect from the community.
  13. I didn’t add any shelters I just guarantied one that already had another next it. Also I this side of the map could use a milling machine. I changed the loot tables of the surface up because I am cutting down the caves. I also think that my plot makes more sense as a place to take Subnautica’s story. It does make sense that the radicals that are forest talkers were to raid a place such as the whaling plant they would set up in a place similar to the hunting Lodge first. Although for mine to work desalination point would have to be changed a bit. What I am thinking is to move the road to face more a little more north and then remove the ice at the cliff base. In order to justify the researches we need something for them to research. Such as a solar anomaly That knocked out the power or a gamma wave. Just some thing. They could also serve as exposition.
  14. Here are my changes to the surface level. The biggest thing is that I removed the wendigo researchers since that really didn't make sense. Seeing as there wouldn't be any wendigos until the starvation and frost started to set in. Instead I largely replaced them with the forest talkers. The note could be a argument between the forester (a forest talker sympathizer) and the forest talkers making plans on what to do with the bridge in desolation point out, with the body there have a knife in it. The one at forest talkers could about how they didn't stash enough food and going to need to raid the whaling plant and as a follow up to the note that location should have hardly any food or it doesn't make sense. From there make it clear the remaining men killed each other but, their was at least one survivor who is now gone. For a bonus touch make the corpses INSIDE half eaten. At the last Corner the note will speak about how he refuses to become one of those monsters how he would die before enacting their horrible deeds. Then position the revolver (or I just thought of this, climbing rope) in such away it's clear he committed suicided. In one of the northern camps leave a rabbit corps (like one a wolf leaves) in a place a wolf couldn't have left it. All these things will do wonders towards building anticipation to when the player ventures under ground.
  15. Tis better than bleak inlet. Also as I have said before the wendigo myth fits better with the setting and themes of the long dark than any other fanatical creature. There are a few things I would change which ill post later once I finish a revised version.
  16. Did hinterland or Nintendo make the trailer.
  17. Actually the real secret is that for long trips cattails are pretty O.P with a calorie density of 3000, no dehydration, no decay and they stack.
  18. you have to remember it's just a minus ten so if you spawn during the "summer" or "warm foggy blizzard" weather cycle it doesn't matter since it isn't very cold already.
  19. So how you know is when you haven't eaten enough you don't have the badge and when you have eaten enough you do have the badge.
  20. The ketchup chips are a slight decrees in the tacl (total average calories in loot) being a below average food with high hydration drain making. Basically they are worse jerky. I think that it's pretty obvious that things are easier though since the maple syrup is so power full. With 850 calories and a weight of 0.30 means we have a calories per kilogram of 2,833, meaning the only denser food is MRE. Difficulty ranking 0.7ish might change as I go through each update. (wintermute1.0s update is the base line at one) I think it is cool that they added the to filters even thought they currently have some bugs. Even though I can't stand the heritage filter, the Noir filter actually gives the game a entirely different feel although that may have just been because as soon as I turned it on I started listening The House of the rising Son, but non the less it gave me some cool mode ideas / game ideas.
  21. Get a bow four hours and never miss. It's that simple.
  22. The long dark is minimized game that doesn’t need any thing like that. Also manic maniac is right some of the spots where you can fall in the ice is pretty much a death sentence. I mean the stagnant water of forlorn musk wouldn’t be as long as you don’t go into shock, stay calm and know what your doing, but the ice fat from shore there’s no way if you get pushed even a little bit under the ice sheet by the current that you will never get back to where you were and the moving river at bleak inlet would be a death trap.
  23. Simply, lighters would be over powered or in other, words to significantly decrees difficulty be an addition.
