  1. Mapping is awful (and was pre-update, too). It really feels random what buildings and vehicles will appear, and when a location name is included. For me, that's everywhere, rather than at specific locations. I really hope this gets overhauled. It's such a great mechanic but I wish it were a little more reliable.
  2. Not necessarily. Not all mementos are about cache boxes. Some mementos are clues about useful locations only. If you go to your map and hover over the memento location (looks like a compass needle) it will say either 'memento hint' or 'memento cache'. The ones labelled 'cache' have boxes, the others don't.
  3. @ManicManiac The pictures of the big hall in Carter Dam are really gorgeous
  4. I wouldn't usually expect to find any blue maritime flares in ML or MT. On my run I've found about 10 blue flares, and I've only been to: all the new regions, BRR, FM and ML. Nowhere timberwolfy. That's more blue flares than I'd usually expect to find even after visiting BI and Blackrock.
  5. There was speculation on WonzAndOnly's twitch stream tonight that there are some caches that are set to contain loot that was never meant to be available on interloper, and the devs patched it so the caches are still there, but the keys have been removed for those caches. As a quick fix for putting too much OP loot on Interloper. This seemed like a reasonable thought, since so many of us are having difficulty finding keys to boxes we've found in known locations. However, also on Wonz's stream, he found a revolver in a cache box, which is definitely not normal loper loot. Also, a key spawned on a visor that he'd already checked that had been empty the day before (not in ML, a different key). So who even knows what's going on.
  6. I didn't think you could drop things like notes and keys. Are you sure? It won't show up in your normal inventory. You view notes and keys in the Journal menu.
  7. Happy new year everyone, survivors & @Admin. Here's to a warm, well-rested and well-fed 2023 for us all
  8. Maple syrup seems like the most likely candidate for sugar. Maple-roasted moosemeat sounds pretty amazing 😋
  9. @MarrowStone Thank you! I thought it was probably something like that. I'd like a stat for paint cans, because I find them ridiculously abundant, even on strictest scarcity settings.
  10. No need for sorry 😁 I hear you, not having fires in mines, and particularly in the airfield hangar, is a pain. But if I didn't want that pain I wouldn't be playing TLD!
  11. You can have fires in caves, loading screen or not. But you can't have your own fire in a mine. It's the cave/mine distinction that makes the difference.
  12. I would love a mode like what you describe. I often wish there was a scarcity setting between 'one per region' and 'none at all', forcing long periods of play looking for tools over several regions. I don't think it's in any objective way better, though. TLD has broad appeal and has yielded a variety of different playstyles, the custom modes are well-used and popular. I agree with you about what kind of experience I find enjoyable, but I personally don't feel any criticism of Hinterland for making TLD what it currently is.
  13. I enjoy those sorts of dilemmas, and scarcity is a vibe I'm really looking for in my game, so I play a custom mode that creates as much scarcity as it can. I'm sure other player enjoy different aspects and maximise those in their play.
  14. 🎶 Dashing through the snow, on a day-old loper run, Airfield here we go! Don't care that we've no gun. Found a matchbox spawn, and tinder too we got, What fun it is to light a fire when we find a sheltered spot! Oh! Jiggle teas, jiggle teas! Jiggle all the way! Oh what fun it is to have our teas not burn today! Hey! Jiggle teas, jiggle teas! Jiggle them with care! We need the warm, to stave off harm, on our hike through the Great Bear! 🎶 Merry Xmas, fellow survivors! Merry Xmas, @Admin!
  15. With the same weight restrictions as ropeclimbing, presumably? I'd feel concerned about using a zipline with a 40kg pack, but I don't know why that feels less possible to me than rope climbing. It feels plausible to me that anyone living in Great Bear for a long time after the Collapse would set up something like this in places like AC and HRV. If not for people-use then at least for shifting supplies about. My headcanon might be that the preppers or Forest Walkers set them up.
  16. Two memento caches PLUS one memento hint is my max so far (BRR)
  17. I spotted these as well. Relatedly, what's with the 'number of tin openers found' count in the journal? Can someone who's played longer than me shed any light on why that might be there?
  18. A bit of data about memento caches from me: I found both of the caches in BRR (and also the memento hint, but I'm not talking about that here). One I found in the expected way - a note with a map clue and a key next to it. The other one, I found the box randomly while exploring, and couldn't open it because no key. Later I found a key, but it didn't have a note next to it. I was able to open the box with the key, but never found the corresponding note. I've seen people asking if the boxes spawn in the world normally, or only once you found a note that gives a cache map reveal. Now, from my experience, I know you can find the box without a note. Do you think finding a key without a note is related to finding the box first? Has anyone else found a cache key on its own, no note?
