  1. Thanks! I found it I loaded the game, hit Alt-Tab for the Steam overlay, clicked settings, and there is a drop-down menu to display FPS on-screen while playing. My FPS, with all my normal applications also running, is 15. I'm guessing that's... not good.
  2. I play on a pretty old PC running Linux and I have pretty poor performance. I've had my graphics settings turned low forever, but it still judders a lot, especially in certain places like the Cannery or Maintenance Yard (I blame the chainlink fencing) or during heavy snow. I can usually get it to a playable state after a bit of fiddling, usually I have to close down all my other applications; it really doesn't like me having email or a web browser running. How do I find my FPS rate?
  3. Happy Hallowe'en, @conanjaguar! Here's my TLD-inspired jack-o-lantern. (Though I will admit I found the design by googling and copying someone else's.)
  4. Thank you for the clarification! The bit I didn't catch first time around was that you're adding a litre _instead_ of drinking the liquid. I thought you'd drunk it _then_ added another litre, which is why my calculation was based on 1.66L total, not 2L. Sorry for the confusion!
  5. I wasn't taking into account the densities - I'm a maths bod but definitely not much of a physics bod myself! Just wondering how you got to 33%, then?
  6. I agree, although I will say it did feel a bit odd to be melting snow for water when I was stuck down in the middle level of Cinder Hills mine, where there is liquid water, but no snow. I guess same for some other explorable caves and mines.
  7. It's always been my headcanon that the survivor carries water bottles by shoving them into their coat, hence they don't freeze. Though of course the survivor doesn't get a lovely hot water bottle temp bonus, so it doesn't really stack up
  8. If you're doing a simple 'this much ice as a proportion of total water' calculation, the maths says it would become 40% frozen. You'd have two-thirds of a litre of ice, out of five-thirds of a litre total. Two-thirds divided by five-thirds = two-fifths = 40%
  9. Although apparently it could: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thundersnow Noone tell the devs!
  10. Thanks! I've done everything else I wanted to do here, so I'm just killing time rn, which always feels wrong. Killing wolves, also, which at least feels useful.
  11. You've just made me grateful that Great Bear never has thunderstorms
  12. Yay, I was hoping you might go for this one. You're a natural storyteller so your entry to a storytelling challenge will be great to read
  13. Tell me where I can loot some red wine while I wait!
  14. Mountaineer's is bad for it. I've had it at Bricklayer's in Blackrock, too.
  15. Sometimes we need a place to moan or rant where we know people will understand. Seven consecutive days in Bleak Inlet with no aurora 😫
  16. A game in a familiar place to get used to new mechanics, UI and items. As soon as I'm confident with that stuff, next game in an unfamiliar, new area (if we can spawn straight there) and enjoy feeling lost again

    Hello!!

    [waves] hello fellow enby!
  18. Just want to say how much I've been enjoying these stories while I was lurking. Good luck to you! Or bad luck! Or whatever it is that will work for you! May you extinguish your torch every time you try to pick a cattail
  19. How well-named are regions of Great Bear? A tier list (Places included are those that had those nice postcard icon pictures on the wiki when I made this)
  20. Took this pic while playing tug o' war with neighbour's dog, and couldn't resist TLD-ifying it
  21. Hey there fellow Midlander! I'm a Derbyshire exile, now living in Dublin. I love your creations!
  22. Hi everyone! I've been lurking on the forum for a while, very happy to be joining in. You can also find me on the fb Long Dark Community group. I've got about 800 hours all together on TLD, I play on Linux via Steam. I play Survival, and recently played through story mode ep 1-4 for the first time and did a few challenges. I like to play a custom setting with highest possible Interloper-like scarcity, deterioration and bad weather and afflictions, but mid-level hunger and thirst, and fairly easy animals. I love exploring, foraging and making-do, but not so interested in fighting. My longest games are around 120 days so far. When I fancy a break from my 'proper' games, I start anew in Interloper for quick games I call 'Short Darks'. My longest interloper is now about 14 days, but the first 4 or 5 are the most fun. I find TLD to be wonderfully calming, especially the solitude, just the tinkle of the menu screen music makes me relax. And it's so beautiful; I've always been awed at the light in this game. Happy to be here!
