You know this makes me think, why do we always assume that in any disaster or post-disaster game, the economy has irrevocably been destroyed?   Maybe it will recover.  Maybe we will go back to using paper money, until the infrastructure is fixed.  Sure, in the game winter is eternal, but in reality it would eventually warm up.  You might find your way back to the mainland, where things aren't so dire.  I'd think if I were actually in this situation, while something I could use more immediately would be preferable, I don't think I'd realistically turn down a fat stack of $20 bills in exchange for a plate of food.  Because you never know.

The world will begin using Salt as a currency again, like in days of old. Which may leave us "in the dark", literally. Because... Great Bear seems to have NO SALT on it.
The only salt in TLD is found on the forums and social media sites. (#SorryNotSorryJustKidding)  ;)

Something that I am not sure about is that is it just great bear that is seeing the Aurora or is it all over the world? I always assumed that when the Aurora first happened the world went into below zero temperatures. I assume the whole world because the world was already getting super cold before winter. Will:"I dont remember needing my parka this earlier."

So is it just a harsh and early winter on the island of Great Bear or is this how the world ends...

P.S idk where else to put this but who is the girl in the server room in the redux trailer? Maybe the person the trapper sent you to message?

Been living the good life on Coastal Highway making the fishing village there my semi-permanent base camp.

It's all about the bait...

60 kilos of fish or there about, pretty decent haul for a 24 hour fishing marathon excursion.  I'm willing to trade lamp oil for bullets...

These sound like good questions for the Milton Mailbag. No promises they'll get an answer but it's worth a shot.

@Hawk- Thank You! I like to ask first, though I am sure many people just right click and copy w/o thinking about it. And thanks for the link to the full size image, saves me from having to resize the smaller image to fit on my screen, and risk losing image quality. Much, much, much appreciated. :)

Weather was getting worse. There was a strong, gusty wind as I was making my way to the Forestry Lookout with a sprained ankle, tried and encumbered. But despite its impractical location, I always end up spending some time in a lookout. I love to be able to see outside — the changes in light and weather. 🙂

So... if you are quick, and can catch that nano-second of green time, it is amazing what you can balance on the edge of a basin:

Yes, I travel at night, or the wee hours of the morning, as long as no Aurora is in effect. It is a cold as it looks, but silent, the cracking of a twig makes you jump a bit:

And the fog is your steadfast companion, never leaving you, hiding the things you do not want to see, and gently revealing the ones that you do:

Oof I did this exact thing two days ago on my first time at the summit now I look like a copy cat...

Lol! I think many of us have done it, some of us more than once. Way more. Same with shooting from the Lighthouse, the Forestry Lookout, The Lake Overlook... it is fun, and pretty. But that is one of the prettiest screenshots of it, that I have seen in a while. :)

Hey Pancake if I can call you that, where is the best place to settle down I have been trying to find good hunting grounds (deer, wolf, bear, moose) and great views of the aurora. I just got to and looted the summit for my first time (almost died) but now what?

Lol! I have been called many things, some of them much worse than "Pancake", so sure! Pancake away!

Honestly, I can't tell you where to settle, if you are looking to homestead. It really depends on what locations "click" for you. Coastal Highway is rich in wildlife, and fishing. TWM and PV are rich hunting grounds as well, but every place has trade offs. Rich with wildlife usually also means "Wolf City" (The Coastal Townsite), or long distances between man-made shelters, maze-like landscapes, or typically awful weather (TWM and PV). Or the "Crossroads of Doom"- Mountain Town (Milton). Ect. It really all depends on what you like, and feel is most important. Do you like to forge? FM (my personal hell, DP,) and BR have them, but none have fishing, if you enjoy fishing.I love Desolation Point, my favorite. But many people dislike the small one-ended map, lack of fishing, and limited outdoor locations to avoid Cabin Fever. Coastal Highway and Mystery Lake, with their Lookouts, have great views from above, fishing, and tons of wildlife. Which often needs to be avoided, lol. CH has beachcombing for late(r) game as well. HRV is gorgeous, and tons of hunting, but a multi-level maze, with no man-made shelters and terrible weather at times. But some stunning views. Every region has its own pros and cons.

Try different areas. create new saves to check out different regions, and find the one that speaks to your soul.  :)

A lovely sunrise at the Lighouse in DP. One of the reasons DP is my favorite region in the game. You can only get these views here. :)

DP is my favorite, so far, too. I've only started in Mountain Town, Mystery Lake, Coastal Highway, and DP. It took me until day 5 or so of my current run (day 7, as of right now, maybe?) to realize I could get down from my lighthouse perch without crossing all the bridges and ridges. It's tricky, but I like the descent/ascent path on the little island before this one.

That said, after switching from the easiest mode to this custom variant of the easiest, and allowing animals to attack me, I've realized I will occasionally lose a day to recovery here and there. I trekked out on day 4 to reach the mainland from the lighthouse and got jumped by a wolf on the second island. It did NOT go well. I recovered eventually, but I lost a whole day to that fiasco. Regardless, I still love DP. There's a bear out here somewhere that's gonna be fun to deal with...
