  1. Play Stalker. And have 4 or 5 come all at once. They are polite though, they line up and wait in queue.
  2. Deer: "Look guys, there are 12 of us. We have sharp pointy antlers. if we band together, we can run this big galoot out of our feeding territory." Moose: "Bring it." Wolves: "Oh, snap. Get the popcorn."
  3. I have always liked this idea, though it would require a bunch of different animations to be created for each animal, and then coded correctly to have the appropriate animations play for different types of interactions. I would love to see a Moose stomping or charging at a wolf pack, or trying to intimidate a bear. But I do wonder how it would affect performance on lower-end rigs like mine, and others far below the specs I have. But yeah, if it can be done without slowing my fps to slide-show speeds, I would really love to see this.
  4. Wolves bleed out fairly quickly. If it wasn't dead by the next day, it isn't likely that it was bleeding out at all. Might be a bug, might be a new behavior for wolves. maybe they get sprains too, and non-fatal injuries like we do? I wonder if it will heal over time? Makes me wish we had a paintball gun, so you could mark it to be sure it is the same wolf. (Did you check to be sure your wolf kill count did not go up in your Journal?)
  5. I will say after the hotfix, aiming with the rifle seems more precise, it feels "right" now. Haven't played with the bow yet, or the revolver, since I have been doing short throw-away runs to test things out. Started a new Stalker run last night, and I'll make it a long run attempt, to really test things more thoroughly. Chose Coastal Highway to start on, and am curing a maple sapling and deer guts to craft one as soon as I can. Now I just need arrows, lol. Didn't have an issues with sprains before, haven't had any in my first 5 days in this new run, even though I took the steep slope path down from the tucked away trailer to the Log Sort. Slope warning most of the way down, crouching as I went may have helped? Anywho... thanks for getting hotfixes out so quickly on Steam, haven't checked XBox One yet to see if it has dropped there yet. Changelogs did not have any optimization noted, but oddly, perf seems to be better as far as better fps and fewer RNG hitches. Coincidence, I am sure, but... I'll thank you for that too. My old toaster rig thanks you too.
  6. I have no coat yet. And yes... it is as cold as it looks, lol. But Josephine is stylin', after finding those ragged jeans, the toque and the balaclava. In the words of Fernando Lamas: "It is better to look good, than to feel good, and dahling... you look mahvelous."
  7. Spawn in on Stalker, and have only matches to start a fire and scare a wolf off, and spawn in with wolves right around you. You spawn in outdoors. You have no house to loot to get flares, a revolver, shells, ect. You don't spawn in with flares, a rifle, a knife, a hatchet, a hammer, a revolver, a bow or arrows. You need to be able to evade the wolves that are out to rip your face off from minute 1, so you can live long enough to go find them. It isn't about forgetting to carry them. It is about being able to get somewhere to find them, first. If you want more role-playing, you are free to gather stones in a blizzard, take the time to lay them out on the ground, and then build your fire. You HAVE that option. Your idea would force me to play your way, and I am not interested in doing that. I accept the un-realities in the game, because they make for more enjoyable, less stressful, less tedious gameplay for me, especially in Stalker, where I am not the hunter, I am the hunted, from the minutes I start the game on Day 1. I like to do crazy, risky hand over had free solo rock climbing in my games. i think that is fun. Not everyone does. I would not insist on a major change to the game that forced everyone to climb everything without any ropes. My role-playing is being a free solo rock-climber, like I used to be IRL. Not everyone wants to play that in their games. I do it by choice, and enjoy my role play. And I know I risk hurting or killing my character doing so. But I have a free choice to do it or not. I am not forced to do it because it adds more "realism" to the game for me.You feel free to lug around 20 lbs of stones, and lay them out on the ground every time you want to build a fire. Again, you have an idea. I do not like it, I would not upvote it. Others may choose differently. But my vote is "No.", no matter how you try to make your idea sound "appealing". To me, it is unappealing. And would honestly make me stop playing if I was forced to play it that way. We can agree to disagree. But please, don't try to tel me your opinion is better than mine, They are both equal. *shrugs*
  8. First you have to find flares or a revolver and shells. I can start a fire in Stalker and below from minute 1, since I have matches when I spawn in, as long as I can grab a few sticks right away. And sticks are everywhere. I don't like the idea, sorry. Too much "IRL realism" that would make the game a chore, rather than a fun experience for me.
  9. It would bother me quite a bit, 5 small stones would not build our campfire with cooking stones. I can't see lugging 20lb of rocks with me everywhere to be able to build a campfire in a hurry, and some areas we do not have interactive stones we can pick up and lug to the spot we want to build one at. Imagine trying to get a wolf to "Just hang on buddy, wait there while I go scrounge up a bunch of stones, so I can build a fire ring, so I can keep you from charging, and scare you away...". That honestly would make the game TOO realistic, and kill off a lot of the fun and spontaneity of it for me, and other people, I am sure. I can only imagine the angry complaint threads if they did this... Meanwhile, I downloaded the hotfix, and Steam went offline for their weekly maintenance right after, lol. Headed back now that Steam is back online, because I know I can play without the Steam Client running, but I lose Steam Cloud saves and the Steam screenshots. And I like my screenshots, a lot. :)
  10. Glad you made it. And glad to see your question in the Milton Mailbag. Good forums here, much less dramatic than Steam. I hope you'll be glad you came on over. The pace tends to be slower here, which can be very nice. Hope to see you joining in the discussions and giving some of you feedback and insights. Now, time to watch some Monty Python clips, until the hotfix drops on Steam and XBox One.
  11. Hey Wolran! Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your visits here, and are able to find the answers you need to questions you have. And to share your feedback and insights as time goes on. We were all new here, and to the game, at some point also. Nice to meet you! Stay safe and stay warm!
  12. I used to lift the hoods, until I got jumped by a wolf that was camping the car. In front of the car. Where I could not see him, because the hood was up. I jumped in to evade him, read a book for an hour, checked the side windows... never thought about being able to check out the windshield. Since then, visors and battery, fuel door... but never a hood left up.
  13. The old website... I miss the section where the team was listed with short bios. I get why it was removed. But, I still miss being able to go see who is working on the game. It felt like I could connect to the people working at the studio more as human beings, not just anonymous avatars on the Internet. It was interesting to see a short bio, with devs listing some of their former work. It just made everyone more easy to relate to as people, and made me think of them as individuals, humans, not nameless machines working behind a screen. So the question is... any chance the studio would consider adding something like that back, on the website, in the "Studio" section? With each person giving their own short bio, no contact info, used with permission of each person only, of course. Maybe first names only, no photos unless they felt comfortable with it, just an avatar of their choosing (done in TLD style, of course...)? Or do you feel this could place you, the studio, or individual staff members at risk? (I know you had death threats in the past... which sucks- these things should not happen, but they do these days...). Just curious, I know family and friends who would like to get to know your team better, and I feel like that section on the old website gave me that opportunity. But, again, I know it also gave haters more opportunity to target people or the studio at times, and online privacy is a huge issue these days. Sorry for rambling, just a random thought that came up when my family and I were talking about the game with a few friends who also bought the game, because of our obsession with it, lol.
  14. 12 years old, and I was invincible, even though I have brittle Insulin Dependent Type 1 diabetes. I packed glucose tablets and food, always, and my medical supplies, and knew better than to go on a dayhike and solo climbing jaunt. But... I did it anyway. I was only going to a place everyone knew about, so, nothing bad could happen, right? And if it did, someone would know where to look for me. Okay, after they looked in the other hundred places in the woods around us, including the old mine we all knew about and like to go explore. Yeah, dumb kid. I was. I think I was mad at my brother or something, and had grabbed my backpack without checking to make sure I had my insulin and glucose tabs and some food. Food I had, but no insulin, no glucose tablets. So I got to my favorite climbing area, only about a 40 foot cliff-face. Fairly "easy" route, we all knew it and were familiar with it. But... usually we had someone go up top and rig a climbing rope and a pick-off rope, and climbed the route with the rope loosely attached in case we slipped or missed a hold. I decided, knowing I shouldn;t, that I was going to free solo it. I had climbed it a hundred times before. No problems, a few greasy holds i knew about and made sure i had another good hold along with. Until the last 10 feet or so, where there was a spot where h you had to let go and push off to grab the last handhold, and then you could get your feet plane ted and all was good for the last bit up over the edge. The last handhold broke off in my hand as I grabbed it. Down I went, about 30 feet. Luckily there were some huge wild rhododendron bushes below, and I landed on-in one. Lots of small puncture wounds, lacerations, and a really twisted up leg. Nothing broken, just muscle pulls and tears, and some minor bleeding. Got out of the bush, and could not find my pack. Physical exertion and adrenaline... my blood glucose level was dropping, fast. And with hypoglycemia, I get confused quickly. When your brain is starving for sugar energy, it does not work so well. I think I crawled around on the ground screaming, looking for my pack. No one was around, so no one heard me yelling for help. No one knew where I was. I found my pack, ate all the food I had inside, and limped back home. No one was home when I got there. They were all out looking for me. (This was 41 years ago... we had no cell phones...). Which gave me time to get out of my muddy, torn, bloody clothing and jump in the shower. Mom was the first back to check the house. And she found me in the shower, looking like I had been chewed up and spit out by something with big teeth. And my pile of bloodied clothes on the bathroom floor did not make her calm down, happy to see me. She freaked. i think I was grounded for a month, which is about how long it took me to heal up from my injuries anyway. But... still. I did a "dumb kid" thing that day. And lucked out, and did not get more seriously injured, or have more serious issues with my diabetes. Needless to say, everyone was happy I was okay, and I learned a number of valuable lessons that day. But I didn't stop climbing, or caving, or hiking. I just made sure I did them more "smartly". Never alone, and never without letting people know where I was going, what i had planned, and when i should be back. I've had worse injuries from caving accidents, and had some bad times backpacking in the desert in high Summer. But that was the scariest experience doing "extreme" things outdoors that I can remember.
  15. Read my post again. I never said pirating is justified by anything, only that I understand why some folks do it, to try-before-they-buy. And my friends who live in countries where they make very low incomes generally have one very old console or computer, paid for by multiple people in their households. The people I know have to consider other expenses first,. and games are a luxury. Being able to try it first, then buy it if they like it and can save up the money to do so, again, often split among several people as far as cost... I get why they do it. I don't do it myself, I can actually afford to lose a few dollars here and there if I buy a game that has been hyped, and then find out I don't like it after I buy it. They can't.
  16. @kristaok - nothing personal. but to you $7.50 USD (the current sale price on Steam) may seem like nothing. But for some people in 2nd or 3rd World countries, where a 12 hour day of physical labor may pay them the equivalent of $5 USD, that $7.50 USD is a TON of money, that they may need to feed a child and family, or pay for medical expenses. Pirating is wrong, but don't judge people based on ONLY your life and you situation. I can afford the game at full price, my friends in the Philippines, Mexico, Poland... may not be able to, because the full price cost is a full week's pay for some of them. They do pirate games as well, simply because they want to try them before they spend a week's pay on it, that they often cannot get a refund of if they do not like the game after buying it blind, due to regional restrictions and laws. So, they do save their pennies, and pirate games to try them, and spend their pennies when they find one they love, with devs they feel good about supporting. That $1 a day you recommend saving may be the only money a teen or younger person may make in a day, if they are lucky. Not everyone comes from the Land Of Free Money And A Chicken In Every Pot.
  17. ... Breathless... the emotions this shot evokes are a bit heavy, yet... peaceful at the same time. Was this the last view someone had, before they went into that Long Dark... Stunning capture. *whoosh* **Breathes again** ...
  18. Lol! Well, I never thought of it that way. Nevermind Hinterland, please leave Spidering in, and give it a skill book, please?
  19. Where did I say anything about igloos, lol? And evergreen boughs would be great. If they actually existed in the game, and new assets and art for all of the Fir and Cedar trees on the entire island did not need to be created and added, adding to the already "getting heavier" graphic load on older machines like mine. I love the game, I don't want a makeshift shelter to prevent me from being able to run it and keep enjoying it, when we already have one in the game.
  20. Lol! I get the feeling I am not supposed to be able to climb the walls like a spider and get up here. Minor bug. I did not get stuck, no sprain or slope warning, no injuries. Just a nice look around at the top of everything. Just playing around to see what I could get away with, and was a bit surprised I could do this.
  21. Just a quick note- we know we are in Northern Canada, we do not know we are in the Haida Gwaii area. Great bear id fictional, and we all have made guesses about where we are, Hinterland has never given a precise location that I am aware of. And look around at the world we are in... Taiga forest- Birch and Maple (neither evergreens), Fir, and Cedar. And with logging going on, we have no way of knowing if they are all native old growth, or if some were mass planted many decades before. No low hanging Fir or Cedar branches around either. Just deadwood that has fallen to the ground. With the number of deer and moose on the island, if they are starving as well, they would eat any edible greenery, including needles from low hanging branches. I have made lean too shelters while camping, hiking and backpacking over the decades. Woke up once to a doe happily chomping on the white pine branches we had used to make a rough shelter to get out an unexpected snow. She seemed more concerned with the num-nums we had placed within easy reach for her, than with humans being underneath them, lol. I like the idea of the lean-to made from branches, but we do not have them, and I don't expect Hinterland to suddenly make the damaged island we are on pristine all of a sudden to let us make them. The shovel to dig a snow cave or a trench and laying branches across it makes more sense, as a quick emergency bivy. Though they would have to make branches movable with RMB like other interactive items are. I do like the idea of being able to use hides for snow shelters, if the cured hides got a big increase in decay rate if left outdoors in the elements. They would need to decay like cloth doe, or the option would be far to OP, IMHO. I like the ideas, but I also see the game becoming larger and larger, causing performance issues for more players who were able to run the game well on lower-end systems before. The more they add, the more likely it seems that they push Unity 3D to its boundaries, and start creating a game that many of their current player can no longer run on their computers. And while they may have been able to afford a copy of the game, they may not be able to afford to upgrade their computes, right away, if at all. And new people looking to buy the game that own computers that n meet minimum specs now, may not meet minimum specs after additions that don't add much to gameplay other than giving more options for things we already have. Hinterland does have to consider the wishes of current players, but they also have to consider the new potential customers who ave not yet bought the game, and who may not buy it because of the increased demands put on a machine. I love the game, I want to see it get better and better. But I don't want to see it become so cumbersome that I or anyone else can no longer play it, the way Subnautica did for many of us. Great game as well, that my rig ran well during Early Access, but cannot run at all above 10-fps on the lowest settings due to all of the new things that got added, and the increased system demands they carried. Someday i will update my computer, and be able to play it again, but not right now with a pile of medical bills to be payed off, and my 2nd child getting ready to start college this fall. I do not want to see The Long Dark become another game that I can't play because I can't or won't spend a ton of money upgrading to a super-beefy gaming rig. My 2¢, and don't get bent. It's just my opinion, and no one has to agree with it. But I love this game, more than any game I have played in the last 30 years or so. And I want to keep playing it, so I am giving my opinion for consideration by the devs.
