  1. I like the idea of the Well Fed buff still giving room for the extra condition, and having it fill up at the normal rate, as long as you maintained the buff. And having the condition loss, if you lose Well Fed, drop the same way. Gain 1%/in-game hr- lose 1%/in-game hour. Gaining and losing the extra carry weight in the same way. Not sure how possible that would be, or how complicated, with the complexity of the game code being what it is. I am a software dev, not a game dev. I believe it is possible. But I also know it won't be "easy" or "quick" to do. But I see no point in people sitting here yelling and having an argument back and forth over it. Make reasonable suggestions of how you feel it should work, and let Hinterland decide if they can do it, and if they feel it would add something to the quality f the gameplay and the experience they are working to create for us. And for the time being, now that we know how it operates for now, we know to make plans for it, and do our best to not let our condition drop to really low levels, any way we can, in case we can't eat, and may lose Well Fed. And those who are speaking on behalf of a large group of people who aren't here to read the thread or comment in it themselves, can perhaps pass the information along to the rest of the large group that they are speaking for.
  2. And I have had them decide not to run, and instead guard their kill and get provoked by me not stopping when they turned and growled. In Pilgrim. Shocked me the first time, made me kick myself for not stopping before proceeding the second time and the time after that. Heck, 3 years ao when I first started playing, and was playing only Pilgrim, while I got to know the maps better, I went to Old Grumpy's cave at the back of Mystery Lake. OG was on the ice near the fishing hut. I paid him no mind. "Pilgrim", I thought, "I am perfectly safe.". As I turned to go into the cave, he charged me. I backed up against the back of the cave. He stopped the attack at the mouth of the cave and turned and ran away. Not sure if I had stepped towards him instead of backwards, away from him, if I would actually have been mauled by a bear in Pilgrim Mode. It's a chance I decided to never take again. One close call was enough, lol. If you provoke predators in pilgrim, they can, and may attack you. May not. No idea what defines "provoking", but I don't charge up on wolves guarding kills, or stroll blithely into bear caves while the bear is nearby anymore, when i am doing a Pilgrim "Can I Climb That???" run any more.
  3. Lol! Clear enough, and clearer than any I might take while I am getting ready to die. And yes, Aurora Bears are absolutely terrifying.
  4. Misanthropes calls... one little dark shape I know is a wolf. Let's check the other way... seems to be clear. Oh, yes, I see you. But you don't seem to see me, yet... No wolf at the door, inside, safely. For now. And tomorrow, we go further.
  5. Awesome! I was listening to the OST while I wrote it.
  6. Thank you @Jolan. I wrote it for myself, and shared it, hoping it would do something for someone else. Glad it moved you. And r greatly appreciate the comment.
  7. It does, *as long as you are eating cooked predator meat*. Raw (uncooked) meat/fish/canned food will still be able to give you Food Poisoning or Parasites, even with Lvl 5 cooking skill.
  8. I use olive pomander oil for "vegan" soap, triple-fatted. Makes a really nice lathery soap that isn't too harsh on skin, regular tallow lye soap for cleaning purposes. Molds? Those little Ziploc "snack" size containers make awesome molds to make big, fat bars, that need no cutting. Lost the lid? Soap mold! Veggie oil soaps tend to be a little softer, tallow soaps are harder, and are better for grinding down into flakes or "powder". I just enjoy keeping some of the old traditions that my Grandma taught me alive. Something very ritualistic about the process, and the tradition, for me, anyway. And I have a ton of soap around. And lots of soap scum, lol! (hint: Dried coffee grounds in the softer soaps makes it smell good, and gives it some exfoliating properties, Dried, finely ground citrus peels + finely milled whole oats, or pre-packaged colloidal oatmeal mixed in, also works nice for a gardener's/mechanic's hand soap.) But this has nothing to do with the game... 🥴
  9. The only real issue you have, is that fir would not make good lye. You need hardwood. Which we don't have in the game right now. We do have maple and birch, saplings anyway. They would need to add hardwood to be harvested to burn, to produce the lye. I make old-fashioned soap, and make my own lye. And it is a rather tedious project. Takes lots of white ash, lots of time, and lots of practice to get right. Even the quicker method of boiling the ash in soft water on a stove or fire takes time, and can be a bit dangerous, if you let it boil too hard. Rabbit would provide no tallow, wolves very little that could be used, deer would provide some, but Moose and Bear would have more, usually collected from around the animal's kidneys, to get the highest fat content. And we would need some sort of wooden barrel or plastic bucket to do the leeching in, and something that could be used as a form for the soap to be poured into, to cool and harden off, for cutting into bars. The cooking or leeching pots/barrels and forms would need to have no aluminum in them, as lye is quite caustic, and will eat right through aluminum. It's a great idea, and I like it, but it would require a ton of work and balancing to make it even semi-realistic. And I think there would be some players who would enjoy the ritual of soap-making, and some who would find it tedious and too niddly. Honestly, I think using the soap that we have shown in the game already, making it interactive (turning it into very precious loot), and requiring us to make water in a specific amount, then pour it into the metal pails that we can currently only harvest for scrap (but not use to hold or heat water)... "bucket baths" for us and our clothing. It would still require a good bit of work to add to the game. But... we have the ingredients already. I would love to see them become more than props and a source of scrap only. Still hoping that Hinterland can someday add this to an overall Health and Well-being system, without making it too "burdensome" on players.
  10. Chuckling a bit. Why didn't the fellow who made the video come here to ask about it? But, he was playing the DMC. Dead.Man's.Challenge. I think it is called that for some reason or another. Makes perfect sense to me, after watching the video, that if you are DMCing, and generally living recklessly, losing that buff and the extra condition that comes with it, makes total sense. Heck, if you are playing in any experience mode or player made challenge, you need to be aware of your condition, ration your food and water appropriately, and not take too many risks, knowing you may die if you do take them. Except Pilgrim, maybe. A death like that in Pilgrim would really suck. (And yeah, in my early days, I had a few of those really awful deaths, in Pilgrim. And they did suck. But they were all on me, not taking care of my survivor like I could have. But there were rocks and mountains to be climbed...)
  11. Finally back to the game, now that my new rig is here, updated and set up. On my toaster, i thought the game was gorgeous. On my new rig, getting ~300fps on all Ultra (except SSAO turned off...), OMG. The game is even more gorgeous, and I didn't think that was possible. So happy to back t playing again, and the game showed me some love. With lovely scenery, and with not having Old Grumpy Bear rip my face off on Day 1, lol. Enjoy. I did. :) Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Pancake breakfast in the next room. :)
  12. It could serve to convert some of the Sprain System "haters" though... if sprains suddenly were "helpful" in a more noticeable way. (#MakeSprainsGreatAgain) Joking aside, i could *probably* get behind this, if it were part of an overall Wellbeing system, that included Mental and Physical health. Using soap to wash hands or take a "basin" bath, raining skill points, for example. Or a single point given with appropriate use of medical supplies, but not 10 points per dose. By itself, I am not sure it would work well. Even if it were a skill like Mending, or Repairing, that was not tracked in the Journal, but gave points and a small buff to first aid with each 10 or 20 skill points. Faster healing from negative afflictions, but nothing ridiculously OP. (As in- it will not ever give a buff that lets you heal Parasites or Broken Ribs instantly, but may shave a few hours off, with a max of 1 day total shaved off at 100 skill points. Foo Poisoning requires only 8 hours of rest, sprains heal in 30-60 minutes less, ect. Small buff, that would not reduce the afflictions to irrelevancy, but would make them less "burdensome" or difficult to deal with. As part of a large system I think I can get behind it, but as a solo skill, not so much.
  13. When we choose a career path, we all start somewhere. Where did you start? More specifically- was there a single game or game franchise that you can say made you decide that you wanted to, or "needed to", begin working in video games (in any capacity)? What was it about that game or those games, that really "clicked" and compelled you to take that career path? And if not a single game or game franchise, what was it about video games in general that made you want to create them? Any different career paths you once gave great consideration to before making the choice to become a game dev, that you still think about from time to time? As in- any other careers that you ever gave heavy consideration to, and think you would also have enjoyed, and done well in? Not speaking of any "regrets" about the path you did choose, but more about "I wonder if..." type thoughts? I never have regretted what I have done for a living, but I think back to when I was 12 or so years old, and really thought I would become a veterinarian, zoologist, or biologist, working with animals, and have those fleeting dreams about what my life would be like if I had chosen that path, instead of the one(s) I followed instead. *Asking for a friend*, of course.
  14. Christine. I'll just leave that here. And run like hell...
  15. Yeah, there is a FANDOM Wiki as well, generally more up-to-date, with more detailed info. But it also seems to be more heavily loaded with ads at times. https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/The_Long_Dark_Wiki
  16. Keep in mind that neither Wiki (Fandom or Gamepedia) is "truly official". Hinterland does not submit content to either, AFAIK. Both are player made, with info added by players, not by devs. The "Official" in the Wiki title is just a way to use SEO practices, to have it hit more, and land higher, in Internet searches using that keyword/those keywords. Just a "clever" way to get more visits to your site or page. So, though it is "usually" good information, it is still based on players using various methods of pulling (and pooling) data from game files, gameplay, and "informal" questions to devs here (Milton Mailbag) and on social media, and then adding that info to the Wiki(s).
  17. Better late than never, as my Dad used to tell me. Glad you made it here.
  18. Not found behind one of those flattened cardboard boxes against a wall, but on a recent Survival Mode save in DP, I found a soda and a flashlight hiding behind a cardboard box on the ground, in a corner, one I usually ignored in the past. Not sure why I chose to harvest it this time, perhaps because it was early in the run, I had no lantern, not too many matches, no torch made yet, only one flare. And I needed something to do until the sun came up enough (since I could not sleep any longer, and don't often use Pass Time), and it was there. Really dark image, since I had no light, but, it was a nice surprise, and very sneaky.
  19. Still itching for a remote First Nations village. A place where some of the old ways were still embraced, yet degraded by industrialization and tourist trade, at the same time. I'll just leave it at that.
  20. That would be a bit painful though, for people with RSIs, or arthritis (like mine) that makes button (or even paddle) mashing an issue. The accessibility option of "hold to..." could be used, and it is far less stressful if my RA is flaring up and I need to use it for wolf struggles, but it also does take away some of the feeling of "winning", since timing and "skill" is removed from the event. Not sure, for me, that holding a button on my mouse or controller, for a shorter or longer amount of time, would provide any real satisfying feeling for me (gameplay-wise), just to get out of the icy water. To me, thinking about it, it seems like it would be a bit of an annoyance to have to do, especially with my love-hate relationship with FM already in place. Just my feelings on it, it will be different for each person who may be affected by it.
  21. Yeah, these were from the Steam version of the game, since I almost never take or share screenshots from XBox One. And I run the game at 1360 x 768, on mixed Medium-High settings, because my PC is 6+ year old mid-grade build toaster, and that is the res and aspect ratio that works best for my 6+ year old display monitor as well. Steam has a feature with the Steam Overlay, that in select games you can capture an HD version of the shot, not sure what res it uses, to be honest. Hinterland may be able to answer that question better than I can by just guessing. So by using this Steam Overlay feature, I can save higher quality screenshots to my desktop instead of the lower quality screenshots that it saves to the remote folder on the PC. You will rarely, if ever, see me post a screenshot from the XBox One version of the game, simply because Steam makes it faster and easier to use for me, and sharing them is a real PITA on a Windows 7 computer (Windows 10 is much easier, but still not intuitive...). And you already know the issues with getting HUDless screenshots on either console.
  22. I am not going to engage in an argument with you, when it seem to me that you are not understanding what I was saying. And trying to "call me out" by naming me in another thread you created feels like you are trying to attack me. So, you feel attacked, I feel attacked, we all feel attacked. We're even then, I guess? (And BTW, I play on XBox One... we have longer loading screens there also. I have actually put 2000+ hours into the game on console, and ~900 in on PC, on a toaster, where everything is slower as well, because... I play on a TOASTER.) You have your opinions, I have mine. We can leave it at that. Thanks. You can stop accusing me of attacking you when you post new threads, please? Especially when I never attacked you. Thanks.
  23. Continuing on in Wintermute Ep1... This room always creeps me out, In Wintermute and in Survival Mode.
  24. And it takes hardy any extra time to observe the cues and clues that the game gives you when moving through a structure with windows or mine with an open cyclone fence type gate. It's all there, you just have to actually pay attention to what is going on around you, just as you should be observing signs and cues when you are out in the wilds. You know I respect your views and opinions. But if saving a real world second or two is your biggest concern in this game... you may be playing the wrong game. Carelessness, haste, and not paying attention to the world around you, and what you are doing in it, is what gets you killed in this game. Just my 2¢.
