  1. Started in Pilgrim (June 2016), still play it occasionally, when I want a more chill experience. Maybe the first 100 hours out of over 300 I have played now were mostly Pilgrim. I play mostly Stalker now, some voyageur, Pilgrim when I want to just relax, or go try some silly things out, like climbing everything, everywhere. Interloper never felt good to me, too structured, to rigid, to much min-max for my tastes. Tried some Custom Settings games, never really found any settings I enjoyed as much as vanilla Stalker or Voyageur. Find what works and feels best to you. Singleplayer game. No need to "compete" with anyone else who plays. I know people who have spent thousands of hours playing almost exclusively in Pilgrim Mode, and others who have spent the same number of hours in Voyageur, Stalker or Interloper. And a few who have more hours in Custom Settings games. The game allows each of us to play our own way, at least in Survival mode. Challenge Modes and Wintermute are a bit less varied. Challenge Modes are preset for a curated experience, only one way preset experience mode. Wintemute gives 3 different modes, but again, no custom settings. Find what makes you happiest. Play that. Anyone who tells you to "git gud" needs to "git lost".
  2. Honestly not sure how to take that. Supposed to be funny? Feels a bit creepy to me, and not sure why you quoted me and posted that. But... okay, then.
  3. If I remember correctly, and that is where I think it is, there should be an uprooted tree just past those rocks. But with the fog, it's hard to tell if it is where I am thinking of. That was a good one, took me bit to think of where that might be.
  4. Yes, now that I look at it, I posted the wrong shot. 5000+ screenshots, it gets hard to keep track of them all some days. 😂 And this was the spot I was originally thinking of... Dear me, I really should clean out my collection of screenshots someday. But, I can't Bear to do it yet...
  5. @devamadhu... Absolutely love love love the shots from The Riken!
  6. Welcome to the forums! Looking forward to getting to know you, and hoping you'll become an active member here. We all have our own playstyles, and I do enjoy learning new things and getting new ideas from other players. Please don't be shy. No one bites here. Okay. A few may bite, but usually only take small nibbles.
  7. Once Episode 3 comes out, I will replay, starting from Episode 1 on. I'll delete any old saves I have as well. Just to have the whole thing flow together from the start. And yes, when Episodes 4 & 5 come out, I'll probably do the same thing. Start from the beginning, and try a few new things along the way, to see if I can do it "better".
  8. Yep. Lol! I knew that one would be easy. But can you find your way to the exact spot the shot was taken in? Using the same route? (Hint: No footprints coming from the Frozen Creek...) Not sure you can still get here in the current version of the game. But, since old screenshots and Time Capsule screenshots seem to be fair game now... This shot is an old one, from when I first started playing the game, just over 3 years ago. (Timestamp says July 30, 2016). I know where it is, and a small hint to anyone who knows me on Steam- this was one of my first big "crazy climbing" expeditions, the one that got me into trying to climb everything, everywhere. Try a Time Capsule game version if you want to see if you can get there and duplicate it. (The date I gave should tell you which version to try...)
  9. Okay. Should be fairly easy to find this one. Especially for you @ajb1978...
  10. I miss that. The choice to use a tool or smash open was in the game for a while. It does kind of suck to have to drop tools that can be used to open a can onto the ground, to have the game use a specific tool (knife instead of can opener for instance), or drop all to be able to just smash the can open if you already have a ton of recycled cans, and don't care about any calorie loss from using "smash can open". Never noticed the thing with torches, though, to be fair, I craft torches, but usually light them off an existing fire, or pull lower condition torches from a fire. I tend to carry flares for wolf protection or travel, since changing winds can easily blow out a torch almost as soon as I light it, or prevent me from lighting the dang things. Flares don't have that issue, though once lit, they can't be extinguished and reused. Trade-offs. Excellent heads-up/reminder about the torch @Ice Hole. Probably would not have thought about it if I didn't see this thread. Though, for traveling through caves or mines, new torches can be handy.
  11. A friend and I have always just called that bear "Spirit Bear". But "Fred" works too. Fun thread from the Steam forums on the name of the wolf in HRV: https://steamcommunity.com/app/305620/discussions/9/1726450077623652655/
  12. Awesome! Accessibility is for everyone... not just us "old gimpy people". So glad it worked well for you! 👍
  13. Have you tried using the Accessibility option to just hold down the LMB, rather than having to click spam?
  14. It feels neglected, due to your obvious show of favoritism toward Battery. It is simply trying to do something to get your attention, so you will love it too. 🥺
  15. Perhaps not *pneumonia*, but I saw this on Twitter this morning... https://twitter.com/CDCgov/status/1176199560173150208?s=20 TB... field dressing deer that carry the bacteria can lead to zoonotic TB infections in deer hunters who don't use universal precautions. The link in the Tweet goes to an article about a hunter who developed a case of pulmonary tuberculosis, with the only exposure risk being... he was an avid deer hunter. We aren't going to be finding trauma gloves and surgical masks all over the island. That would be silly. But an increased risk of an infection after harvesting deer or moose carcasses, or *possibly* wolf carcasses or wolf bites (since dogs/canids can carry Bovid TB as well as deer) is plausible. Either a pulmonary or cutaneous infection. For the sake of simplicity in the game, I don't think specifying which form would be appropriate, just increased risk of Affliction: Infection. The risk would not be great, the zoonotic infection can happen (does happen), but all of the papers I found on it by the CDC and WHO show low numbers of confirmed cases, not widespread or common numbers. But, since gloves and masks are not a "thing" in game (and should not be, IMHO), it could be something to be considered if a health and wellbeing system that includes hygiene (washing) were added to the game. X number of contacts with deer, moose and wolves, and lack of hygiene after the harvesting or contact = slight increase in risk. Small modifier change to risk from wolf bites, modifier added to carcass harvesting mechanic/skill. **Hell, include bear and rabbits as well. Make all animals potential carriers** A bit less complicated to code that way. As Carcass Harvesting Skill is leveled up, add a decrease in the infection risk, 0 risk at Lvl 5, to remove the risk from carcass harvesting, (you know how to efficiently harvest an animal now, and don't splash fluids from the animal's respiratory tract around any longer). As far as risk from wolf bites, bear claws and bites, or a moose standing over you snotting on you as it tap dances on your torso... small increase in infection risk from any animal attack, decreased by washing up within a certain amount of time. TB is a bacterial infection, so treatment for the infection would not need to change. Antibiotics for the infection, bite wounds retain the current treatment for risk, general risk treatment for non-bite exposure would be... washing up. Plausible. Semi-realistic. But still requires a new hygiene mechanic to be added, and changes to risk modifiers for certain interactions. Can it be done? Sure. Is it worth the time and effort needed for the devs to write the code? Maybe, maybe not. That's up to them, and their vision for the game and the experience they are trying to create for us.
  16. Eh, they are whoever you want them to be in Survival mode. Each of my survivors gets a different name and a backstory I make up for them, That I build on as I go. Role playing FTW. As far as the voices... can you imagine the expense of having to find and hire a number of other quality voice actors, who could do as good of a job as Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale did? Survival Mode is advertised as "write your own story", which is why I give them different names and histories. But my son always plays them as Will and Astrid, so it's all fair. As far as giving "class skills" buffs or debuffs, based on gender, the idea has come up, and been posted here and on the Steam forums many times. And it has never been adopted by the devs, and I doubt it ever will be. I actually would prefer that it isn't added. I play a number of aRPGs and RPGs, where I can choose female or male characters, and there is no disparity between the genders. They have the same attributes For it to be added to Custom Settings, they would actually have to give the characters specific attributes that can be changed, rather than using an even skill leveling system. Since Custom settings are only settings that already exist in the game, that the devs use to tune each experience Mode, and decided to expose some, but not all, to us, to let us customize our games, if we choose. Once we have official modding tools and support, I am sure there will be modders who will set something like you want up. But I doubt the devs ever will make the choice to do it themselves.
  17. I could see an increased risk for some things, like infections, as a consequence of prolonged starvation. Nutrition is key for a healthy immune system. Not sure what other afflictions we already have would have a greater risk, though. Did you have any more specific ideas for new afflictions, and what would increase or decrease any risk factors?
  18. Text does not convey "flavor" very well on the Internet, where your "audience" may not find the sames funny, that you do. Yep. i missed the humor. because i read nothing I found humorous. Perhaps next time, put a (j/k) or (joking!) somewhere in there, so people are more likely to see that you are attempting to be funny, instead of pompous. Some of us will still not see the intended humor in it, but at least we'll know that was the intent, and "flavor" you were trying to give your post. And you don;t need to quote random people to show you are not alone. I am not alone in my opinion either [insert 20 random names no one has ever heard of {-here-}, as proof]. (No joking... totally serious here.) I like it, you don't. That's fine. We can agree to disagree on that, without trying to self-inflate the importance of our opinions, or those of any unknown random people who may or may not be sitting near us. If my husband or kids want to have their opinions known, they can come here and post them on their own. (Not kidding. They can express their individual opinions far better than i can.) And the banner is just a slice of the poster art for the New Episode, reworked. I think the full poster is fantastic. I'll likely be buying a copy from the Hinterland store, once I can figure out where/if I have room to hang it in my home or my home office. Even if it does cost a small fortune for shipping from Canada to the US. (Not Hinterland's fault there. Snail mail parcel shipping is crazy expensive. it's kept me from buying merch from other games i enjoy, who would be shipping from Across The Pond.)
  19. Hahaha! I was waiting for the Mothership to come down and beam me up, but apparently Scotty was asleep.
  20. Really enjoying the Time Capsule. Started out with the Desolation Point update, so i can see what my favorite region looked like when it was brand new. I have to start in Mystery Lake, and unlock the next regions by finding the way there, it appears. Love that! The game is so different, yet still similar, and so beautiful in its own way. Images will be in 1600x900 (because I bought new monitors, and forgot to change the resolution to a higher one they can work with... whoops!). I have to encourage anyone who has not played from Day 1 to give some of the earlier builds a try. It's amazing to see where the game was at a certain point in time, how things differ, and how far the game has come in the years since. This is about 10 months before I bought the game...
  21. Nothing personal, but I have no clue who Kevin Silver or Joe Bingham are, or why their opinions of the art style of the banner on the front page should be the end-all-critique that I should accept as all-important. And really no clue what you mean about "the wiki", since this is not a Wiki, of any sort. There are 2 fan-made and maintained game Wikis for The Long Dark, and neither of them has the new artwork on them yet. Unless there is a Wiki available in your region, that most of us don't know of? I like the artwork. And agree with @DarkTreader, that it has the look of a modern movie or subscription "tv" show poster (think NetFlix "Stranger Things" style poster). It shows elements from the upcoming Episode, I would imagine, without giving any spoiler details away. We'll likely recognize the things it shows when we encounter them in the game, and it will make more sense then. It's good "teaser" artwork, IMHO. Makes me want to know who that lady with the bow is, and where that plane is, since it seems to be intact at the front end, unlike the Tail Section at the Summit. Who is that man praying, and why is he praying? Who is that person behind Astrid, holding their arm? We knew there would be Timber wolves from an earlier Dev Diary, and if those wolves are Timber wolves... yeah, I want to not meet them, I think. They look vicious. I mean, you are free to not like it, but why you are attempting to "name-drop" using 2 unknown people, who may or may not be who and what you say they are, that I suspect most people will not recognize, the same way I don't recognize either name... seems a bit...silly. Give your opinion. And if Kevin and Joe want to give theirs, they are free to register and create an account here, and post their own. 🤷‍♀️
  22. This, perhaps? https://twitter.com/RaphLife/status/893312402573361152?s=20
  23. Thanks @Raphael van Lierop. I and my family appreciate all of the hard work you, and your entire team have done, to make this game the best you can. It may not come at a fast enough pace for some, and some of us may be more than happy to wait, to get a better finished project. But come on people, the sniping back and forth is really... petty. Take it up in PMs, or just block each other, and don't look at the blocked comments on a thread. I have my opinions, and am a dedicated, diehard fangirl of the studio, the game, and the devs. Feel free to ignore my posts if you aren't such a fan. I like what I like. You like what you like. It's what makes us individuals... having our own, subjective, individual opinions. I am looking forward to Episode 3, to the Survival Mode update in December, and am currently enjoying the Time Capsule. Desolation Point is the first one i am trying out. It shipped before I bought the game, and the chance to try to survive, and see my favorite region when it was brand new... I really, really, really appreciate the opportunity to go back in time, and have these new experiences. And to see how the game started, and how it has grown, matured, and become what it is today. And I am looking forward to 4DoN this year, because I recall seeing you, Raph, say something about the badges from 2018, and people being able to earn the badges for 2019. I'd look for it and link the post, but I am tired, and my Google-Fu skills decided to take a nap. And I think i will join them. Always a fan, and always looking forward to anything, and everything Hinterland gives us. Now, and in the future. Thank you.
