MrWolf
I don't think I've seen the lighting of the Signal Hill tower during an aurora. And with that moon, beautiful! I'd sit here and fill up my desktop with screenshots if it wasn't so cold. Edited July 19, 2018 by MrWolf 4

ThePancakeLady
Haven't been able to sit and play at my desk for a little while (long story, some folks know it from Twitter...) Anyhow, fired the game up on Steam, for the first time in weeks, deleted old saves because I have no clue what I was planning to do in them. Chose a random spawn in Stalker, praying RNJesus would not punch me in the face with FM. He was kind. DP. My favorite map, even if there are no cooking pots to be found *grumble grumble*. I also ran from Katie's to the Lighthouse via the ice road, avoiding wolves up along the paved road. RNJesus was kind, again, and gave me nice weather to choose my climb up the back way. First night- a gift of an Aurora. The Lighthouse, and I decided to bunk there the first night. Yay! A Buffer Memory before bed. I think this is going to be a good run. Edited July 20, 2018 by ThePancakeLady Typos, bad format, and just plain bad grammar. Not enough coffee in me yet. :P 2

Ruruwawa
I guess I'm the newest member of the "I love Lake Cave" club. I came here to get my moose, and now I can't bring myself to leave. The entry passage into the cave has been windproof for me so far, even in some strong winds that seemed to be pointed toward the cave. It's a lovely spot to hang out while cooking and a reliable spot for a moose hunting fire. Nice views from here too... Moose steaks and "hushed margaritas" (2 parts herbal tea, 1 part rose hip tea - freeze partially then shake well). Add a snow shelter with a view and loper life doesn't get any better! piddy3825
Here's a little series I call "curing in place..." the bear just wanders right into camp... Custom animal hide headboard, took 10 rabbit pelts to line the top of the headboard and the legs, 3 deer hide to fill in the back and lower sides and 3 wolf pelts to give it an arch. And if you are wondering, no this is not a mod, this is a fantastic little glitch, imho. 3
horsechex
I'll never want for a desktop background again after changing my Windows settings to rotate through my Steam screenshot folder for TLD. My very first time playing, I stepped out of the Milton House to fetch Grey Mother some wood, and realized I was about to enter a long-term relationship with my screenshot button: That first Aurora of the campaign was truly something special: But with Wintermute long finished, it was time to take to the Coastal Highway. The auroras offer a delightful color variety depending on the time of night they roll in. My favorites are at dusk, before the moon rises, when you get a hint of green offset by the last glimmer of a pink sunset on the mountains. But you don't need rainbow lights to have a beautiful view: A day trip to Pleasant Valley was less delightful with its creepy-ass Blair Witch trees, but after sitting through the wind, you start to understand why they need a little support: So back to the Highway, for an equally haunting sunset: Followed by a little patriotic rendition of the anthem to give me courage for a bear hunt: Time to pack up my winnings... and retire with some friends to a frozen, coastal home: Just watch the clouds go by: And get ready for The Long Dark: 3

Senauer
Timberwolf Mountain wakes to a crisp and freezing morning. Sun rises on my way to the summit; a nice day for looting those containers up there. Traversing Heartbreak Bridge in Pleasant Valley just feels like a bridge too far away. Pleasant Valley from the top of Signal Hill looks really... pleasant. Perhaps that's because those little fellas the wolves are not seen from here. Sometimes it is worth to risk a bit of light to see the beauty of the in game art. And now I wish the screenshots would not show that I am freezing and I missed breakfast! It's PS4 gameplay so unfortunately I believe I cannot hide the icons. Edited August 3, 2018 by Senauer 1

FunkyFuggerson
Onward, To oblivion! This has to be one of my favorite moments in the game, and one of my most stressful. Traversing the trestle in this weather can give ya a heart attack. Edited August 6, 2018 by FunkyFuggerson 4

If there'd been a mechanic for losing one's balance in high winds, I'd have been a goner. -Almost was, just from the freezing conditions.

Some things in The Long Dark would be much more interesting if walking in a strong wind nudged you to the side just a little bit. Great pic, @FunkyFuggerson. Very creepy in the fog! MrWolf
I was in Desolation Point hunting a bear well into the evening when the aurora appeared. I put an arrow in the green glowing bear from my perch on a ledge, lit a fire, and hoped for the weather to stay calm. The bear scampered around the area and at one time, came up toward my ledge. When I saw it coming my way, I quickly took off my valuable wool toques and crafted clothes and held my breath. The bear got close, then turned around, unable to come out onto my ledge. Close one. After the bear scurried off into the distance, I started the stopwatch on my phone and hit F10 about every 15 seconds, for around 10 minutes. Here's the result. It's unfortunate that it bumps left and right slightly, not sure what caused that, I never touched the mouse. I guess my guy gets a little uncomfortable crouching for so long and has to shift from side to side now and then. Unfortunately, this would be my character's last evening. Having already killed the two wolves that roam this end of DP, and after waiting several in-game hours for the bear to bleed out, or hopefully be close to it, I boiled water using the last of the fire, then headed back toward Hibernia in the middle of the night. I started for the nearby mine entrance, thinking the safest thing would be to sleep there until morning, but I changed my mind, Hibernia was just down the road a little ways. I stopped to snap a photo of the guard shack, nicely lit on such a beautiful night. As I proceeded around the gate and past the car, I noticed a small greenish blob headed my way. No barking, no growling, just incoming. Fast. After taking a moment to realize it was an Aurora Wolf Missile, I turned to hop in the car but it was too late. That snarling green furry face was the last thing I saw.

You take a curing animal hide, wait for it to get to 98-99% cured, and then hold it against a surface. Yes, fan blade count as a surface, lol! Then you sit there and hold it in place until it cures completely. And they stick.
