  1. I'll never want for a desktop background again after changing my Windows settings to rotate through my Steam screenshot folder for TLD. My very first time playing, I stepped out of the Milton House to fetch Grey Mother some wood, and realized I was about to enter a long-term relationship with my screenshot button: That first Aurora of the campaign was truly something special: But with Wintermute long finished, it was time to take to the Coastal Highway. The auroras offer a delightful color variety depending on the time of night they roll in. My favorites are at dusk, before the moon rises, when you get a hint of green offset by the last glimmer of a pink sunset on the mountains. But you don't need rainbow lights to have a beautiful view: A day trip to Pleasant Valley was less delightful with its creepy-ass Blair Witch trees, but after sitting through the wind, you start to understand why they need a little support: So back to the Highway, for an equally haunting sunset: Followed by a little patriotic rendition of the anthem to give me courage for a bear hunt: Time to pack up my winnings... and retire with some friends to a frozen, coastal home: Just watch the clouds go by: And get ready for The Long Dark:
  2. Hopelessly lost, freezing, and starving during my first time in the HRV, after getting turned around during a whiteout. I'm desperate to find the nearby campfire where I left my sleeping bag, when what's this? Smoke through the trees; it must be my campfire! Off I go, so proud of how smart I am to find my way home. So proud I even take a screenshot of my brilliant day-save. So proud that I don't notice: A) that is not my smoke, and B) the ground is about to end. RIP cliffdiver.
  3. 1) What games are the Hinterland team playing in their off-time? 2) What non-game media helped inspire or inform Hinterland and The Long Dark? (Excluding those referenced in opening quotes, that is.) 3) Most of the music in Survival seems to be from in-game triggers (condition, time, etc, though I could be wrong). Any plans to add more ambient music to Survival, similar to Wintermute's more persistent musical presence? I'd imagine it'd be challenging without the narrative control Wintermute provides, so curious if it's in the cards. 4) What's one feature you'll never add (due to balance, techstack, game vision, etc) but holds a special place in your heart, so you wish you could?
  4. Without this thread I never would have known I could rearrange non-food items, Morrowind-style. I wouldn't have thought to provide care to Kyle, my stalwart roommate. And therefore wouldn't have found Cairn #87 My buddy against the storm. My rock(s). Thank you for the delights. <3 from the Forlorn Muskeg.
