  1. Something that struck me was a shadow. A bridge shaped shadow on the ground. I look up towards the sun and there’s a bridge hanging way up there in the sky. Detail like that is spooky somehow.
  2. Try this next time: Build a fire in the path of the oncoming bear, then peg him with an arrow. He should charge the fire, then stop, so peg him again! He will either fall dead or run off at this point. If he runs off, follow him! He probably won’t go far before commencing a dying bear grumble walk, probably back toward you. Figure out his path and make another fire, then shoot him. He will be close to death and may just keel over. But if not, he will stop before your fire and you can shoot him again to finish the job. bears are way easier now than they used to be before they were afraid of fire. Moose are now the hard ones. But there are tricks for those beasts as well.
  3. Wear them on the inside accessory slot with something (like a moose hide bag) in the outer and they won’t take damage.
  4. On Interloper the first issue can be to find a bed. If you’re unlucky enough to spawn in HRV, this is absolutely critical. You can’t survive without a bed roll. Sometimes there is one of those on that map somewhere but the chances of you finding it before dying isn’t great. What you can find are sticks, and you can also find cloth and clothing items. Getting five might be a problem but it’s possible if you enter an ice cave to buy yourself more time. I’ve built snow shelters to camp out at the base of a cliff im too tired to climb and spent the night in peaceZ.. I’ve also found snow shelters as a newly spawned survivor which sheltered my naked butt at a critical time. Yes, if you sleep (which adds 5 C) you can survive even a blizzard (on stalker) with only 3C in clothing. to correct a previous poster, Desolation Point has a couple of beds, some in the whale processing cannery and some in the Riken.
  5. So the cabin (Homestedder’s Respite) above the destroyed fishing hut is reachable by goating up there from the East. It’s not a particularly difficult goat session, either, as I did it several times to carry moose meat and that dam heavy moose hide up there. I think it will make a comfy base. With a fully cooked moose, a relatively short easy hike to the crafting table at Anglers Rest, sparse wolves, and unlimited fishing in the hut down the hill, this place just got put on my “retirement” shortlist. Can’t think of an easier place to survive long term. There is a shallow cave in between to spend some days making sure you don’t get cabin fever.
  6. That’s why I usually play on the PS4. It’s gorgeous!
  7. Hushed River Valley is one of the easiest regions in which to survive. The central cave is roomy and safe, offering plenty of space to cure hides, and freezer space outside for your meat. Lots of game wandering by to kill, and only a few wolves every week or so. There’s a fat old bear that will feed you for weeks. Build a cairn in the cave to store your extra gear. And you’ll never ever have to worry about Cabin Fever! Honestly, the only reason to ever leave is boredom. so far Ash Valley seems very easy as well. Low wolf population. A bear and moose spawns. Also low deer so food will eventually be a bit of an issue. Fishing should take care of it though. And there’s crafting tables and houses to live in. Caves when you want to slum it. The only challenge is figuring out the truly twisted terrain!
  8. Finding the gold mine is easy. Just hike up beside Broad Falls upstream of the Angler’s Den. Walk behind the falls and get to a triple climb (no ropes) that takes you to a cave system which leads to a mountain path. Arrows along that path point you towards the gold mine. When you reach the miner’s folly wheel thingy, there’s a rope laying there you can strap to the rock. Do that and climb down. You can also goat down but I would attach the rope first so you can get back up. Going back up is much easier with crampons! Man those things are useful. Totally worth swapping out a wool earmuff for! But you need to be wearing footgear. Naked feet won’t accept crampons.
  9. I started a new character in Ash Valley, spawned next to a transition cave. Freezing of course. Got a fair bit explored including finding a moose and a rope climb up to a cliff side pathway that led to a snow shelter that was good enough to protect my naked ass from the cold if I slept. Only had like 20 minutes to play before work this morning so I left him there. If anyone wants to know where this is, just follow the left hand wall from the cave transition... not sure which cave. zone seems extremely large and twisty. I’d love to get a map of it! There was also a very risky looking fallen log path down a hole in the cliffs to the ashy valley. Criss crossed logs leading down. I went up some more instead.
  10. It helps to keep the deer moving in the right direction by running after it. If you can stay in fear range it will keep going in the same general direction. also if you want to scare it in a certain direction, come at it slowly from the opposite direction. That way you trigger the very edge of its fear radius leaving it only one direction to go: away.
  11. Did you know that you can score a free deer kill by: 1)chasing a deer towards a wolf 2)waiting for the wolf to take it down 3)come up on the wolf and when it turns to growl at you, aim a rock at it! Just aiming is usually enough. The wolf scares off. 4)build a fire and harvest/cook the deer! If the wolf returns to growl at you, aim that rock again!
  12. I’ve found a work-around. Been playing Loper and the bow shakes uncontrollably when the character is in hypothermia risk and cold meter is red. This happens very fast on Loper so it made hunting difficult. Here’s what to do: pick your target, line up the white dot of the reticle where you’d want it to be, then stretch and release IMMEDIATELY. If you wait to aim even a second, you’ll miss. Just draw and fire at once. Aiming can only be done beforehand.
  13. How about the outdoor location in the stone church? Same thing or different?
  14. I there used to be a revolver that spawned in the cannery machinery house on Loper, behind some equipment. But I took my Loper character there and didn’t find it so maybe that was quickly nerfed. Or perhaps it wasn’t available on my loot table? doesn’t matter: bow is far superior to pistol for most situations including stopping a charging wolf.
  15. Yep I know that nook well. Andre’s peak in Timberwolf Mountain. alternative to that place in a pinch is the cave entrance just down the hill adjacent to the Engine. It’s closer to the river, but upslope toward the mountain and you won’t have to burn a fire to stay warm inside.
  16. This dark walker update broke a number of things. The black screen when you interact with objects is the most annoying to me. Especially when you get attacked by a wolf or bear and it stays black screen no matter what you do. Stupid bugs!!!!!
  17. Also having this exact issue on the PS4 Pro. Interacting with items or even aiming a bow will sometimes trigger it! Also getting attacked by a wolf will trigger it HARD. Usually I can escape the black screen by switching to inventory and tabbing around a bit. But if it gets triggered by a wolf attack, the only thing to fix it is a game quit and restart. it would be nice if Hinterland could fix this bug before their usual timeline of a year or three. Seriously, this is the buggiest game I have ever played, and the developers absolutely refuse to fix giant huge crash issues that make the game almost unplayable for years! If it wasn’t so fun I would have given up on it ages ago!
  18. ever been playing an Interloper game and can’t find some needed equipment? for reference, my current IL game is RLT3, so I found my magnifying glass behind the shelf in the camp office. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11n0wfRQadaWay4feLbunF9dxIbS2hZ3O_I57x5JfF6s/htmlview
  19. Longest game so far is a stalker at 297 days. Honestly I’m bored with it. Did every zone and got all loot, and that’s not a backed up save it’s fluid, could lose it anytime I play. I don’t know how you’d back up a save on the PS4 anyway. Longest Interloper is 234 days. Also gets boring. nothing excites me like starting a new game!
  20. Loper run I just go for protection and warmth. Sprinting is inadvisable under most conditions. My current game I have wolfskin coat and bearskin coat with twin deerskin leather pants, all the rabbit stuff, and unfortunately no upgraded wool long underwear or good sweaters. Maybe I’ll find those later. 28-29 C° is the best I can do for now and it lets me chop wood during at least some of the day.
  21. I have been having constant issues with the PS4 Pro going black screen when I pick up an item. Sometimes I can get it back to normal by opening inventory and tabbing around, but other times I have to just quit the game and reload. This is a serious bug! And it’s new!
  22. I did hunt a bear the other day without a campfire. Pegged him with an arrow and hopped into a vehicle, repeat twice. Then he ran off. I followed and when I caught up to him I pegged him again nowhere to hide. He aggroed and charged. Dropped him at ten paces with an arrow to the FACE! satisfying...
  23. Well, wolves almost never attack people in real life. Really almost never. And yet every cotton pickin howler on Great Bear Island wants to tear my butt off! Something something magnetic disturbance. Cougars could be rare like moose, but they could also be deadly as hell. Like good chance of dying if attacked by one without great gear! That would spice up the game considerably! I like to feel some risk when playing, but lately on stalker mode (I like guns) it’s super rare that anything seriously threatens me. The last four deaths have been from climbing around on cliffs and falling to my death! The last one was super special. Fell onto a ledge In HRV so narrow I couldn’t lay out a sleeping bag, build a fire, or anything. Oh and it had no way off except cliff faces. Oh and I was at half life. No way off except the long dark.
  24. Neat. Would definitely be a stand out feature in any game. I still think we need cougars in the game. It’s based loosely on Vancouver island and there are over 1000 cougars stalking those forests.
