1. Avoiding the stomping... ok I just tested this trick with my last kill I described in the above post, so I know it still works. A gunshot will startle a charging moose into breaking off the attack. I shot it the first time and it charged. Due to terrain it got quite close before I had another shot at it, and I think I missed! But the shot scared the moose off and it ran away. I followed and shot it some more until it died. flare gun shots also work to scare or even kill a moose if placed correctly.
2. This morning I was playing in Bleak Inlet before work, exploring the frozen delta area and visiting the hunting blinds. I spotted a moose near the back of that cove and shot it until it died. I butchered the carcass and then made a snow shelter to rest through the night with my fat meat/hide loot. in the morning, there was another moose nearby. No scrapings to be seen. I let him scamper as I had enough meat for now.
3. Ok Mr. Bear Hunter, why don’t you know about the fire trick? bears stop at a fire. You can shoot them twice in a row if you build a fire first. No more climbing around on rocks and hard to get to spots. Bears are easy that way.
4. If you are sneaking, and a wolf is nearby and you want it to bugger off, try this handy trick. Equip a stone, aim it high and long in the direction you want the wolf to travel, and toss it hard. The wolf will abandon its previous activity to chase off after the stone. As for dealing with wolves, try sneak killing them. Sneak closer and aim and shoot. If you’re level 5 Archery this is a deadly tactic. I took out a pack of four wolves this morning in about 30 seconds with the bow. I had a piece of meat on me to lure them in, and just shot them one by one as they arrived into range.
5. Agree with Sherlock. It’s behind the Quonset hut in CH. sometimes that house is destroyed, and sometimes it’s a good place to hide from a charging moose!
6. THe wood gives it away. Definitely Echo Canyon.
7. Two stories: 1) when I was about ten I went swimming in the river. Was cold maybe 55°F but I figured out that if I stayed in there a while it became tolerable. So I stayed in... way too long. By the time I noticed something was wrong, I could barely move my limbs and barely managed to stumble out. Mom took my temperature and it was 90°. I was about dead and never noticed the transition. It was a nice sunny day so she put me in the car with windows rolled up. Yah, one horrible parenting decision to cancel out the other I guess!? But it worked and in half an hour I was back to normal. 2. My brother’s friend had a daughter, 18 years old. They live on an island in Alaska, remote. She broke up with her boyfriend and was depressed so she drove across the island to find a spot to cry. A sudden blizzard came up and she got back in her car and tried to drive home. In the low visibility she drove off the road and got stuck. Then she got out and somehow locked her keys in the car. At this point she was cold and not thinking well. With few other options she began walking towards home in that blizzard. She only made it a mile before she collapsed and died of hypothermia. By the time they found her, the foxes had begun to feast.
8. The best load out is a bow at level five archery and the revolver. Rifle is clearly superior to revolver both in range and stopping power. But revolver is great for scaring wolves away and/or wounding them. Rifle also is much better for stopping a charging wolf. Even at low skill, you can usually walk backwards as you aim and shoot the wolf dead. Rifle is the best overall weapon. But the ammo is very limited!
9. There should be a rifle in DP. It’s in a cave and the entrance is at the far end of the road, down under the bridge near the waterfall. Careful tho! Fluffy the rabid wolf lives in there and it can be tricky as fuck to kill him. There are also dead deer in there. A torch or flare should keep him at bay if you just want to get in, get the loot, and get out. Otherwise you’re looking at a struggle.
10. Me too. No point to climbing when the hike is so easy!
11. I recommend a long step into the Ravine. It’s thrilling to watch the walls slip by as the valley floor rushes up to kiss your feet. You need to start over on Stalker. This Voyager mode is too easy for you now.
12. I agree with Holmes. The drop off on the left is the best clue.
13. When you hit Desolation Point, check out the Riken a boat in the middle of the frozen bay. There’s a forge there, and you might find a hammer nearby. If not, look in the cannery. Check the peg board near the fire barrel for hanging tools. Check all tubes for stray loot. There is a lot of hidden stuff in that place.
14. Not exactly. You can Goat up to Homesteaders cabin from the left, go up the ravine as far as possible and then walk along the wall to the right. Not even hard. once up there you can lower the rope.
15. Try Ash Canyon start. I did one of those on Stalkerand it worked out fine. Exited to deer clearing and went to summit to complete my gear on day four.
16. I also goat down on the right, sometimes because I’m carrying too much gear to use the rope.
17. Once you complete that challenge, regular survival mode (even Interloper) seems trivial.
18. Only the transition zones like Crumbling Highway and Ravine and Winding River don’t have moose. Every other zone has moose spawns, and usually multiple spawn locations at that. Even Milton has two spawn locations: one at the lake by the trailer and one down in the basin by the river mouth to the lake there. Desolation Point only has one spawn point at the bridge and Broken Railroad has one at the Hunters Hilton. Forlorn Muskeg even has two, one near the cave to Bleak Inlet and the other up on the ridge in the NW part of the zone. Moose spawns tend to wink in and out though, but if you see scrape marks on the trees, you’re in the right spot. If the moose isn’t around today, he very well might be tomorrow so check back then.
19. I almost always start new survivors on the slopes of TWM these days. Summitting is easy if you know where you’re going. That last bit is key. once at the top, there’s always a hacksaw laying about to give you the keys to the kingdom of phat lewt! Then I’ve got a day old survivor with nearly full gear from the start.
20. I liked the 6th and 7th seasons of “Alone” for that. There was a real badass survivor in season 7 who did several things that were absolutely unprecedented and amazing. He was from my home state so I felt a connection. Amazing how well some of these folks survived in an incredibly harsh environment that makes Great Bear Island look like easy mode!
21. Explore. There’s lots to see and loot and fight and plenty of interesting ways to die! Get out there and make some widows!
22. I want a town with cougars lurking among and inside the houses, ready to attack and rip your face off! I want a prison with cells you have to unlock during an aurora to access the sweet loot, but which also frees zombie prisoners to ravage your survivor! I want a new weapon in game: the long knife. This could be the ultimate struggle weapon and even engage bears in mortal combat. That’s right! When Yogi snuggles up to you, you can give him a little love poke. Also I want a few new Eskimo type clothing items added, as that would add both phat lewt and survivor flavor to the game.
23. One game I decided to collect as much ammo as I could. Wound up with over 300 rounds for the revolver and over 150 for the rifle. Yes I made a couple trips to BI to reload to make my cache of ammo. another game I decided to craft as many arrows as possible. Still working on that one. The limiting factor is feathers.
24.
it’s the Quonset hut in Coastal Highway.
