  1. My last death was on day 95 of my Loper game. I was hunting in Hushed River Valley. Took some bear meat to cook in my base cave, and held onto it instead of dropping it like I usually do. Fire goes out, aurora begins, and a big bad wolf on steroids took me out 100% while I tried to stab him with my makeshift knife. sucked.
  2. I know this is about bears, but I’ve also found that when playing Stalker, and using a rifle, I can chain the shots to kill the moose. First one he bawls and then charges. Second one he bawls and runs off. Third one he charges again. Fourth he collapses.
  3. I’m a little surprised that people aren’t discussing the fire method. It’s what I do most of the time. Build a fire in the path of the bear, then shoot it when it gets closer. it’ll either charge or run (if badly wounded). If it charges, it will stop and sort of crouch before the fire, giving you lots of time to aim for the eyes. One more well-placed shot usually does it and down he goes. If not, it will run. If you’re fast, you can pop him again as he runs away and he will either die or turn around. You have to get behind the fire from him quick, and he doesn’t usually stop. So it can be a bit of a circus when that happens. most of the time the bear dies well before this.
  4. I’ve currently completed all signal void tasks except for finding the Bleak Inlet SV bunker. For whatever reason, I get no bunker signal at all in this region. Haven’t seen any cache signal either. Seriously wondering if it’s bugged. Anyone find this one?
  5. Foreman’s cabin in Ash Canyon. It’s just so cozy and I’m usually tired AF by the time I get there, and maybe kill that dang bear!
  6. Worst part about both regions is that they are at the ass end of nowhere. Otherwise, they can be quite beautiful, and usually offer a decent amount of good loot, depending on the RNG. Ash Canyon can be marginally explored in a couple of days with the right path. And there are still tons of saplings there.
  7. Been finding odd stuff all over lately. For example, in the whale processing factory in DP, after chopping three boxes apart, I was able to access a container behind some stuff. Or was it a backpack? Either way, I found a flare gun and three flare rounds there.

    TLD Bingo

Alternate idea to make this suggestion more workable (as it seems like it could be a fun game!) Just have people post their times when they completed their bingo squares. Start from day zero, then accomplish whichever tasks you choose to complete the row you want, and post some pictures of your time elapsed, accomplishments completed. Best time wins! for example: a couple years ago someone ran a challenge to get to 30 C clothing, at least 25 defense, and all tools, at least level 3 in one weapon skill, and a good quantity of ammo for it. I think best i ever did was just under 8 days. another challenge was to get all tools, bags, and equipment as fast as possible, get 30C clothing. This included the moose hide bag, crampons, and technical pack. Best I did on that was just under 7 days. wdyt?
  9. Have you been able to find the mementos (without keys) in Desolation Point? I just can’t seem to Locate the caches and it’s driving me crazy. Checked every rock or piece of wood or tree in those two areas and nothing. Did the developers forget to put them in the game?
  10. I was shooting the crap out of a bear in Bleak Inlet at the fishing cabin, popping in and out of the cabin to avoid a mauling, when it just despawned completely and was never seen again, anywhere on the map. bah!
  11. I thought they made this game “without crunch?” liars!
  12. If you’re going to start a diesel engine with low or no battery, it’s helpful to put some starting fluid in the air intake. This has very low vapor point and is much more easily ignited through compression than diesel fuel. So having that ready to burn first gives the engine a few dozen revolutions to come up to speed, get its fuel pump running, and start burning diesel. I know this from personal experiences.
  13. So a lot of people have been having issues with finding the flare gun. I went 75 days before finding one. It wasn’t at the summit. It wasn’t in the ravine caboose, it wasn’t in Hushed River Valley cave where it almost always was. It wasn’t in Forlorn Marsh or Mystery Lake or Pleasant Valley. It definitely wasn’t in the new zones. I finally found it in Bleak Inlet, and unexpectedly at that. I was planning to visit the broken lighthouse where there was always a case with it and perhaps some flare shells. But instead I found it next to a dead guy at the cannery dock. With 3 shells. your mileage might vary!
  14. I found the keys to both lockboxes in BR. One had 3 cured birch saplings and the other had phat lewt including bullets. The keys to everything seem to be under the visors in cars and trucks.
  15. I found the Curator’s rifle in about the same spot. I fixed it up and have been using it. I have no way to know if it does more damage (maybe?), but the weight is the same. It does look quite pretty, and I enjoy the sights. anecdotally, I did take out a moose with it, took two shots. Usually they charge after the first shot but this one ran away after I plugged him center mass first time. Finished him off with another center mass shot. I have hit deer and they ran off. All wolves hit once have died instantly.
  16. I do love me some bow. It’s fun to attempt really distant shots. Nailing a wolf in the head from 300 yards is just good clean fun. I got my last deer at about the same range.
  17. I just came here for the drama. Way to be a buzzkill, Leeanda!
  18. I’ve now been to most of Forsaken Airfield locations, been all the way around the zone three times, and done a fair bit of exploring. I’ve found about 12 birch sallings and three maple. Not a lot, but they are keeping me in arrows. haven’t seen even one moose or moose sign. and I’ve done some fishing in the ice huts. The fishing was actually quite good, with bass and whitefish being what was on the menu. There are at least three full blown cabins scattered around the map, and a couple of trailers. I’m not sure about the number of caves but I think there are about six. There are at least two Hunter’s Blind type structures to find, and they do have phat l00t. aside from the first day, insomnia hasn’t been a problem. Only one other day with the sparkle fog and I just spent it in the basement making arrows.
  19. I got full blown insomnia after not being able to find the hangar basement once I arrived and was low condition. I slept in a plane and woke up half restored with 35 hours of insomnia baked in! I inspected the condition and it informed me that some herbal tea would ameliorate the symptoms so I drank a cup of ther before bed. got a full nights sleep even with insomnia! did that one more night with the tea and it was cured. no big deal really! just drink your herbal tea!
  20. I also found crampons at the summit where I’d usually find a flare pistol case. Also no tool crate at the summit. Playing stalker. Since I’d already gotten the crampons from the gold mine in ash canyon, now I have two….?
  21. Setting: I don’t save games, and I don’t edit them. I do remember a lot about where things spawn. Loper is several games in one. When you spawn (always in a difficult zone) you must get matches and/or get to an indoors zone before you freeze to death, which can happen pretty fast! Try to collect some sticks and reeds on your way to such things. second game is finding food and clothing to keep you going. This is also tricky, sometimes, as loot can be ridiculously rare. The Warming Up buff is critical for these early days. Make yourself hot drinks and chain torches/fires from one place to another. It helps to keep moving and don’t backtrack. Once you have found a hacksaw and a hammer, head to a forge. I prefer Desolation Point because of all the indoor zones, plentiful coal, and plentiful scrap metal. Try to have gatherered a bunch of cat tails to eat while you forge your knife and axe and arrow heads. Get at least 20 arrow heads. the next game is making bow and arrows and hunting for food. I like CH for this as game is plentiful and there are lots of open spaces and loot. This is also where you manufacture some leather clothing, and a wolf skin coat. After forty days, I finished all this and left CH with 24 °C of clothing. There is enough meat left there to eat for two months. then the game is exploring and finding stuff to upgrade your wardrobe. I headed to Timberwolf mountain summit first, which was frankly disappointing. Then I went to ash canyon and got the technical pack and crampons as well as more loot. now I’m in Milton nosing around for loot. HRV will be next. Basically I move through every zone gearing up slowly and establishing bases. Eventually I’ll return to CH with the best loot and settle in.
  22. Trying to find the mythical passage to summit without ropes is how I fell off the back of the world to my death. In the short time I could still see things before fading to dark, I saw the underside of the map. fun!?
  23. Pro-tip: the ballistic vest found in Blackrock Prison does NOT prevent broken ribs from a moose stomping! I tested this myself on the moose spawn outside the prison. At 80% armor, I took very little damage from the stomping, but still got broken ribs.
  24. This isn’t enough. After a few days of being trapped, even with adequate supplies, you’ll get cabin fever and be unable to rest or even pass the time with cards! I hear that harvesting your boots (and stopping before it’s completed) is the best way to pass time in this instance. I always visit the CH Abandoned Mine with every survivor eventually. There’s a can of gunpowder and some other goodies there. Usually an advanced rifle skill book as well, bullets and a gun. But I take precautions: 1)Get there early in the Aurora. 2)Use coffee to move there and through the mine fast. 3)know the layout, and how to get around without being electrocuted. You can die down there easily from electrocution. 4)if the Aurora fades, quit the game without saving and reload the last save point.
