  1. You don't say exactly where you are, but I gather you're in the workshop and the wolves are on the ice below? Do you know that you can get from the workshop back to the main level without going down to the ice first? (There may be other ways, but I usually go into the building next to the workshop, cross on the green piece of machinery that spans the gap, then jump down to the main level.) That's what I'd do, then head out to the front gate, turn right and go through the fence out onto the ice (if no wolves), then over the ice to the workers quarters. The route from there up the right side of the river to the little cabin is generally wolf-free. From the cabin you can climb the rope and then head up the valley to the ravine. If you don't want to go that route, you can cross the road and veer a little left, over toward the washed-out trailers. From there you can continue mostly straight across the delta to the cave to FM. This way is probably wolfier than the other way, though. Will probably require some crouch-walking, but should be okay.
  2. I understand the origin of CF and I’m not particularly bothered by the “no sleeping indoors” part, but the “no passing time” part always seemed punitive to me. It’s not even clear what the developer is trying to accomplish by disallowing passing time while subject to CF.
  3. Actually, I think I did. I came upon a dead wolf that was not very frozen (about 30%) that I thought I had shot the day before. It was either in TWM or PV, I can't remember. It didn't seem frozen enough to have been out overnight, but I didn't really think about it at the time. But now that you mention it, it might be another example.
  4. The only time I ever used a snow shelter was an interloper run where I didn't find a bedroll until about day 25.
  5. I agree, it should turn off when you resume walking forward manually. I was also disappointed it shuts off if you pick up sticks. Also, it should work while climbing a rope. Beyond that, I like the way it works now with strafing, wouldn't want that to change.
  6. Does it seem to anyone else that the wolves have gotten quieter relative to other sounds since the update? I rarely notice their barks anymore and when one is stalking me I can barely hear it over my footsteps. Howling doesn’t seem affected. Is it just me? Or my imagination?
  7. Similar experience for me yesterday. When I resumed the game it didn’t go to my last save (inside the mine from CH to PV) but to the previous one (entering one of the houses in coastal townsite). I thought I had messed up somehow but maybe not.
  8. Did you enable it in the accessibility settings?
  9. You also have to turn it on in the Accessibility settings.
  10. Inventory is broken for me with this update (Steam, Mac). When I drop one object, a different object drops instead. Also had an issue where using an object would use a different object; that disappeared after save/quit/reload.
  11. FWIW I regularly see feathers around fresh carcasses and haven’t noticed any difference from previous versions.
  12. I don’t know when it started (I thought I read it in a release note but I can’t find it now) but the game sometimes silently auto-collects arrows when you harvest a carcass. I first noticed this when I thought I’d lost some arrows but then had more than I expected at the end of the day. I’ve since verified it twice by counting arrows in my inventory before and after harvesting.
  13. This is one of those “you can’t please everyone” topics, so I’ll keep my opinion on the original question to myself. BUT, one thing I would like to see is better loot randomization. It’s always struck me as strange that there are fixed (even if rotating) loot locations on Interloper. It wouldn’t be that hard to make the prime loot locations more random, while still having logical locations for various key items.
  14. I play on a similar machine (2016 13' MBP, same Intel graphics). Have you turned on the Steam FPS counter (Steam -> Preferences -> In Game)? I suggest setting the resolution to 1440x900, the quality to "Low" and seeing what frame rate you get with that.
  15. Congrats on your progress. Lots of good advice here from players who are way more experienced than me, but I did want to add a couple things. First, you don’t really need to know about the guaranteed spawn locations to be successful. I certainly don’t and I do fine. Second, general map knowledge is vey important. You don’t have time to wander around outside. So I would recommend exploring MT on Voyageur before going there on Interloper. Lastly, are you looting interiors without a light source? That’s a good way to miss lots of matches and other key gear, which tend to be outside containers on Interloper.
  16. I got a response to my report that said they are working on this. As a work around, you can switch crafting tabs and item, then go back to the original item. I did this (crafting a wolf coat now) and it worked.
  17. I can't seem to set time limits for crafting; I don't see the option at all. This is the steam version on a Mac. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or missing something? Anyone else seeing this? I can craft, but not set a limit for how long. Screenshot below.
  18. Don't carry scented items if you don't want wolves to track you. Crouching is your friend if you're trying to avoid wolves.
  19. Has anyone else noticed that you can climb on the bed and then the table in Pensive Lookout? Too bad you can't jump, or else you could jump up and down on the bed. 😂 Nice view, if it's clear. (Yes, I reported this.)
  20. I don't want a sled to drag things, but a toboggan ... all those hills and valleys, perfect for sledding. Also a hockey stick. Not for use against wildlife, but there are all those stones lying around, and all those ice fishing huts with open doors in ML and CH ...
  21. I too find this very frustrating, especially early in a run, when you may not have a light source or want to burn a match to get yourself unstuck. Even if I can't see, I should know if I'm staring at the floor or ceiling! Less annoying but still sometimes surprising is when I find I've walked up a steep slope without realizing it because the camera was tilted up. One way to handle this would be to add an attitude indicator to the "Quick Stats" screen. It could be as simple as an arrow that gets longer when the camera is pointed straight up and smaller when the camera is near horizontal. (And points down when the camera is pointing down, obv.) That would allow the player to orient the camera even in the dark. Other things I'd like to see on the quick stats screen: how much weight I'm carrying and my current limit, and the "feels like" temperature. These are accessible via other screens, but it would be very nice to have a way to quickly glance at them.
  22. 1.71 notes also said But that doesn't seem to have completely succeeded either.
  23. My longest run is 317 days on Voyageur. Died when I got careless and got stuck in terrain. I was exploring near the camp office in ML, looking for a way up to the shelf behind the office without using the rope by the lake cabins. I was going down a boulder too recklessly and when I jumped off I got stuck on a very steep slope between the boulder and a tree and couldn't get out. Doh!
