  1. Never bothered to check but I just did on my interloper run and it reduces from 100 to 96 percent. Pistols on corpses I have never seen that before. Found flare ammo never an entire pistol.

    Locked Car

I think that is the solution to the mystery locked vehicle. The vehicle was ferried over from the mainland. The owner lives in an urban area where locking the car is second nature. There might not be many locked vehicles but there is a chance. Some vehicles like the tractor is something usually not locked and these become a guaranteed escape route. The locked vehicle could be similar to the cargo container with a large stash of loot.
  3. The rifle was brought up to 100% just to eliminate any variance in testing. The Flare pistol cannot be cleaned and I think it starts out at 100 percent, have not seen condition wear before.

    Locked Car

This island does have a penitentiary on it. Usually there are signs warning drivers to not pick up hitchhikers and this could cause some people to be more secure. Maybe you are right about no locked cars in the sparsely populated areas that are current in The Long Dark, however, there is an urban area that we have not seen.
  5. Every time I leave the comforts of Interloper just to try out the firearms things often go very bad. Just the other day I was on Voyageur using the rifle and revolver. Trying out the new mechanics. Went hunting bear. Fired five rounds, could not hit it and the bear did not flee. When it charged I was able to finally make a hit. On another recent occasion the rifle jammed up. Ejected the cartridge and then I picked it up. I was not in any danger but during a bear charge that would be troubling to have a rifle ram. Going back a way I might have had a misfire with the flare gun. It was on interloper and a wolf jumped me. The flare gun was at ready but all it did was click much the same as if unloaded. Certain the flare gun was loaded because the animation to pull the hammer back was repeated all the time. The flare gun clicked and the wolf had diner. Anybody else have a similar experience.

    Locked Car

I did not happen for me. Tried in several regions and still same 180° rotation. Car doors that were once opened are locked randomly is not the idea. The car doors that are locked and once pried open remain open, similar to a locked trunk. It could be frustrating when in a new area and trying to flee to the safety of a vehicle and then not knowing if it is unlocked. That could be frustrating. On the TLD frustration scale locked cars would be a few points below stoking a fire for a few hours on a calm day only to have it blown out to a few minutes.
  7. It is odd that some situations in the game can be humorous. Glad to help out.
  8. The bear shows up in the cave while he is cooking @ 3:02:42 no bear. After the steak is cooked the bear can be seen on the floor @3:02:49. The bear could have attacked but decided to bait em.

    Locked Car

That would be a great alternative. The keys matching to specific cars and the new art for broken windows can be side stepped. The car once pried open all doors become unlocked. The implementation would not need much extra coding compared to original idea. There are some vehicles that have some valuable prizes. Before heading out into The Long Dark the previous owner of the car wanted to keep the items safe and locked the car.
  10. In The Long Dark using bare hands I can: break sticks, tiny crates, small medium large wooden boxes; tear flesh, guts, hides from a half frozen carcass; shred towels, drapes, curtains; salvage metal from pots, knives, hacksaws, hammers, axes, lanterns, firearms; unstitch shirts, socks, pants, parkas, pea coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, hats; decobble leather shoes, sneakers, work boots, combat boots, ski boots, trail boots, muk luks. Rip a pillow with bare hands. That I cannot do.

    Locked Car

The car is always a go to spot for me if attacked by wolf or bear. Prefer it over houses because it has no loading screen. Some random cars could be locked. Keys to open the locked car and trunk can found on corpses and other areas. Smashing in a window can gain access but at the cost of protection from cold or animal attack.
  14. I had an idea similar to this thanks for reminding me.
  15. The new sprain indicator is a welcomed indicator. Allow the player a method to reduce the chance of sprain. Or localize the sprain chance to the wrist. Simple method for mitigation is crouching. The player has feedback from the indicator then decide to crouch to be cautious while climbing slopes which reduces chance of ankle sprain.

    Pets!

Been working on it. Taming wolf might already be part of The Long Dark. Check the prequel to see me walk the wolf.
  17. So once the animal locks on to the character it will not be distracted. Great idea. This would make an excellent addition to the steadfast interloper wish list.
  18. Born in Canada. I see Doc already cleared that up though. The ravaged carcass for as long as I have been playing remains in the world without decay. Once opened then the decay starts. Oddly I have just recently changed my behaviour dealing with these carcasses. Unless it is in a difficult location I generally leave them. When crows are around it becomes a beacon. Feathers can also be farmed. Also its a desperate times meat storage location. Learned that these are much more useful to remain untouched.
  19. The Steadfast Ranger has brought new items and new mechanics. My interloper run has gotten much easier than before. The Birch Bark Tea with its warming has greatly improved the range of my character. The BBT is a renewable resource and makes travelling easier and affordable. The wraps for hands and head also make it much easier reducing the chance of frostbite. The bunny gloves and hat are much better items to craft anyways and during my current interloper run never crafted either wrap. Sprains now can be healed with bandage instead of painkillers or rosehip tea. For interlopers finding bandage or cloth is much more abundant than the painkillers. Interloper has gotten much easier since the recent updates. There needs to be a more difficult choice for experienced interlopers. Replace current Interloper with a new Ranger class and make Interloper more difficult. This is a wish list to make Interloper a more demanding option. Most of the custom settings should be tuned to provide a more difficult interloper experience. Here are some suggestions that go beyond what can be done in the custom settings: Bow or Flare Gun cannot be used with mittens. Need fingers to pull trigger or notch an arrow. This gives Driving Gloves or Hand Wraps a purpose in life. Climbing Mountaineering Ropes cannot be done wearing mittens or heavy boots or heavy clothing. Dexterity is required and clothing gets in the way. Starvation causes Pain and Headaches. Common interloper practice is eat enough to have ten hour rest and most health loss is recovered. Starve (eat less than 2000 calories) for more than a day and chance of Pain and Headache. Work while Starving inflicts damage. Any task that takes calories and you have none results in extra damage to health. Chance of Pain infliction Work while Dehydrated. Any task that takes calories and you are dehydrated results in extra damage to health. Chance of headache infliction. Consuming food takes time to process. Consume food or water and somehow the weight magically disappears. This is some kind of trick. Have the weight remain for a few hours after consumption. Harvesting carcass by hand at level one skill is not possible. Whole skinned gutted rabbit can be cooked. Increase Hacksaw wear down per use. Tool condition determines chance of break while using. Food condition indicates percent of edible calories. Fifty percent condition food has half the total calories, twenty five percent has a quarter of the total calories. Ruined food is ruined and inedible even after cooking. Four Stones are required to make a campfire with a cooking slot. No stones for the campfire equals no cooking slots. Warming food beside the fire is still possible. Eight are required for double wide cooking. Anybody else have ideas to make interloper challenging again.

  21. Water? You mean like in the toilet? What for? Heh heh heh heh. This belongs here.
  22. Already interiors that are below zero °C can have liquid water. There is already water in the toilets that is not frozen and the Quonset hut has a basin that contains non-potable water. The issue with these tablets is that the need for making a fire to melt the snow. These tablets have even less use to me since the cooking update. Once that fire is lit and the character is ready to sleep, I always have water heating with just enough time on the fire. Wake up to one litre water boiled. The tablets I collect just sit on a shelf. The weight of them at 62 grams each is not worth carrying around. I have been researching alternative uses for these tablets. Not finding anything other than making water. The are mostly made up from chlorine. Can this chlorine be used for anything else?
  23. Ranger Cave This hidden cave was a trap in pre Steadfast Ranger update. Goated into the area and could not find a way to escape. My curiosity about the cave is what drew my into the trap. Kept the save and tried it tonight and was surprised when I found an opening. Thanks to team Hinterland. Freedom!
