  1. not so much songs to listen to when playing, as a TLD themed playlist-hopefully the titles tell a little story too... (1/5)
  2. my tip would be to try to get at least 2/3 of well fed buff, moose satchel and technical backpack early on. If you have these and your cooking is enough to make pies for the temporary weight carrying bonus, then it will be a lot easier to stock a long term base. Most good bases will be missing in some materials (Mystery Lake camp office, for example, will mean bringing in scrap metal and wood, especially if you don't want to break down all the furniture).
  3. East here (although Midlands originally...) there's been a couple of 'you might see them if you're lucky' announcements in the last few years. I think a trip to somewhere rural up North/ Scotland in the summer may have a fair chance these days
  4. ditto- apparently they were (very unusually) out in my part of the UK recently, but it was bonfire night so no chance of seeing them...
  5. Pilot captures aurora over Canada: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-67408156
  6. energy drink is a good shout, they're full of all sorts! I like UUA95s idea of how it might work. telling perhaps that the potato description mentions it is 'highly nutritious'. I also posted this on the dev diary thread, hopefully relevant to this discussion: re: scurvy, raw or partially cooked fresh meat can have enough vitamin c to prevent/cure it- so either we may see a tweak to the cooking system, or a possible dilemma to eat raw meat and risk parasites! I also dug this out on wikipedia: Food fortification[edit] In 2014, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency evaluated the effect of fortification of foods with ascorbate in the guidance document, Foods to Which Vitamins, Mineral Nutrients and Amino Acids May or Must be Added.[110] Voluntary and mandatory fortification was described for various classes of foods. Among foods classified for mandatory fortification with vitamin C were fruit-flavored drinks, mixes, and concentrates, foods for a low-energy diet, meal replacement products, and evaporated milk.[110] Vitamin C - Wikipedia add in spuds and carrots, and there's quite a few possible vitamin c sources already in the game.
  7. to me that looks like maple saplings and deer hides to make the travois? love all of the concept art, btw

  9. 'That really smarts' playing as I snapped a bunny's head yesterday with a sprained ankle.
  10. I've only ever played with a gamepad, boggles my mind that anyone would attempt the trestle bridge with a mouse... I'm a leftie though so the keyboard is the wrong way round for me. I've never had any pad vibration so can only assume it's not a feature for pc, does it happen on consoles?
  11. Left-handed. 50% chance that using a tin opener will result in food spillage, and unable to zoom in when using the rifle due to the bolt being on the wrong side of the gun.
  12. nice research- that led to this, possible inspiration? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diavik_Diamond_Mine
  13. In the unlikely event you've missed it, there's some concept art and news on the new region in the Sept Dev Diary. Exciting stuff. Obviously can never bank on concept art reflecting the finished product, but the buildings look similar to Hibernia. There's also going to be a new affliction. My guess is contaminated water.
  14. 'a lot of groundwork to lay for the future of THE LONG DARK IP in how we complete the WINTERMUTE storyline, for games and other projects' I'm hoping this is 'dev-speak' for 'we're gonna do a TLD2. And a film. And a comic book. And a board game. And a cartoon kids show. And a musical.' 😉
  15. ah thanks- good point re: skill level. What perplexed me though was previously, if I shoot something and the arrow breaks, it would still kill the animal. First time I've seen it happen where the animal survives, but I still get the skill reward for a hit.
  16. Just shot a rabbit 3 times with fire hardened arrows. Each time the (new) arrow broke and the bunny ran off, but I got the skill bonus- the last shot actually bumped me up to archery level 2. managed to get the critter eventually with a normal arrow. Anyone else had similar?
  17. Fleet Foxes- gonna try from memory rather than digging out the cd... white winter hymnal?
  18. Hi Nalliah AFAIK... 1. Rabbits have been mapping correctly and in the same places for me (although a wildlife refresh is due in an upcoming update according to the DLC roadmap), so this may be a bug you're experiencing? 2. One and done I'm afraid, and once you first interact with a carcass, it begins to decay as with a carcass you have hunted.
  19. That's a good shout- could a will o' the wisp also be an inspiration?
  20. Vaughn's Rifle for me- the weight gain is great. The decay rate is not an issue for me with the milling machine and the huge amount of scrap metal in the game. Spelunker's lantern looks cool, but as fuel is an infinite resource it's not a big gain. Hope we get a few more variants with the remaining updates- another axe would be fun!
  21. that sounds like a hell of a lot of work- thank you Hinterland (and also to everyone who took the time to file bug reports).
