  1. didn't find any, and not much/any in BR & FM AFAIK. If you are going to HRV my humble suggestion would be to then loot as much food as you can in Milton, head back towards trappers getting the coal in the transition cave, then it's worth making the trip across ML to ravine to stock up on birch bark. Hopefully the extra prep time will tip the survival/exploration ratio in your favour when you do hit the airfield. Good luck! I've found a few memento notes but have yet to follow them up and get the loot. that's my next target, although of course I got moose stomped as soon as I got out of the far territory so currently holed up in BR lodge...
  2. So, I mentioned on the 'what will you do first' thread that I planned to go in on stalker after a random spawn. I pretty much stuck to that, except the part where I was going to grab lots of birch bark and some sort of weight upgrade- too impatient after the initial download issues! This was a mistake to say the least, although I have had an epic struggle with the elements to somehow survive to the point I'm ready to leave the region. I'm now at about 95% of the region, and I think all main areas mapped, having resisted the urge to duck out and resupply/upskill and then return. I've seen a couple of comments about the airfield feeling rushed or unfinished, but I don't think it is. it took me a couple of days to appreciate it, but to me it seems to be a normal region stretched, like dough- there's just so much more empty space. Imagine Desolation Point, but on the scale of Pleasant Valley. A couple of times I pushed on towards an unmapped corner, thinking 'there must be some shelter as I'm so far from the last structure- I was usually wrong. I think it's a really brave decision by HL, and also indicates a certain level of trust and respect for their audience. What could become dull or boring is just another subtle layer of challenge and narrative. I ended up having one of my best ever TLD moments, with two broken ankles and imminent insomnia, heading towards a cabin I spied in the far distance from a fishing hut(and in this region the far distance is a hell of a long way away), only be enveloped by glimmer fog. with food about to run out (which would have crippled me further due to my lack of weight bonuses apart from well fed) freezing cold and with night coming and too windy for a fire- I 'd taken lots of coal, but that's no good without even a friendly rock face for cover. Suddenly, I hit a road, made a choice to head right rather than left, and miraculously staggered into a cosy lodge with just enough supplies to get through the night. Ah yes, the insomnia- my one disappointment so far. Frankly, it's not really a worry, which given that it appears central to the plan of the region, is a shame. As far as I know there is only one area in the region where you can avoid it, and the idea is you plan your treks accordingly. But having had insomnia a couple of times, it is a best a mild inconvenience- you may wake up, but you just go back to sleep again. I can imagine at 'loper level it may be more of an issue, if you are managing calories to recover daytime loss, but at stalker and below it's not now something I have to allow for. Personally, I'd be quite happy for this affliction to be tweaked to be more of an issue in later updates. I can see why there has been some disappointment at the lack of initial content in the DLC (although I was happy enough with what was there at launch) , and in an ideal world I wouldn't be having to go back into the airfield just to try out some new features in the future. I also wonder how things like acorns will affect the balance of the region (perhaps a legitimate point in terms of it feeling 'unfinished'?). I think those who hold off until the whole DLC is available will probably get the best initial experience, but realistically I know I don't have the willpower for that Overall, when taken on it's own merits I think Field 31 is a masterpiece, and I really also hope it is a clue to the direction HL goes with other projects/TLD 2. With more powerful graphics etc. to give you a bit more for the eye, the more realistic sparseness of these wilderness areas could be amazing to experience and survive in. Has anyone else spotted the hints at what the 3rd region in the DLC will be- if not, take a look in the train station in the hub (I love the old Victorian style fireplace inn there, btw). Finally, here's my top tips for anyone who is not a hardcore 'loper+ survivor going into the airfield for the first time: As much carry capacity as you can get! if possible upskill- make every calorie or kill count, you'll need it There's a few wolves, but mainly your weaponry is going to be for hunting rather than self defence If you're planning on mapping, you're gonna need a lot of charcoal! Don't freak out at the insomnia warning (see above). It's not the end of the world Carry enough stuff to make a snow shelter (there is a lot of cloth about) Bring lots of calories with you, and try to keep at least a days worth of lightweight, high calorie food for an emergency when exploring, with replacements available at your main base base BRING BIRCH BARK! The Delta in BI is good training for the airfield Good luck all, and interested to see how our initial perceptions of this region will change over time and as we get more of the DLC. Also wishing all at HL a well deserved break, and I really hope the launch day download issue wasn't too stressful! cheers VHK
  3. anyone who thought this was a great idea might be interested in the transition zone train station in the new DLC- possibly some hints about what the 3rd (and as yet I believe unannounced) DLC region might contain...
  4. are you still reinstalling? that happened to me for that reason
  5. steam forum: Worked for me too. copy TheLongDark\tld_dlc\wintermute\baselib.dll to TheLongDark\baselib.dll Confirmed - works like a charm!!!!!Thank you!!!!
  6. 'Thanks for your patience as we work through a few launch day hiccups.' From Raph on twitter- hopefully a sign that it's not a total catastrophic meltdown behind the scenes, they have a fair idea of the what, and are trying to figure out the how.
  7. well, they did say it would be a difficult journey to the dark territory...
  8. yeah across the board, saw this on steam forum (no idea what it means though!) : It's an unspoken law that every unity game in existence has to ship a broken or windows defender quarantined GameAssembly.dll once in it's lifetime. I guess it was time for TLD.
  9. just a heads up folks, I had to sign out and back in to steam to get the update to start installing after purchasing, seems to be downloading ok now though...
  10. Bit clearer on my plan now after reading the ShackNews interview- stalker, random region, head over to the entrance to the new area picking up gear and hopefully learning new mechanics as I go, also trying to grab either tech b/p or moose satchel if I'm anywhere near AC or HRV (assuming they'll still be there- a good test of how widespread the new loot changes are!). I'll also try and hit at least one birch bark area and a mine/ big cave to stock up on coal. prob won't bother with crafting any clothes or tools, as long as I have something to cut firewood and meat with, and some sort of weapon. Then off to explore the new areas, and if I survive that then a mapping quest around Great Bear to keep me busy til the next update. Can't wait- good luck everyone, looking forward to hearing what you all make of it!
  11. the shades banding on the metal makes me think this could be made with cans, rather than scrap. Gut/fishing line for the straps?
  12. wow, missed this post til now- great anticipation and intuition, I think I lot of these theories seem likely following the latest announcements! When this image first showed up it was with the announcement that Raph was stepping back from TLD to work on other projects- I'd naively assumed the character was in some way a representation of him having a (perhaps metaphorical) well earned ciggie break! haha! A couple of points I've just seen from looking at this again with fresh eyes- looks like an ammo belt on the table. What benefits would this have if implemented? Ammo is pretty like so can't see it being a weight bonus. If what you are referring to as a tool box is what I think it is (directly below the ribbons in the carriage), I'm seeing that as a slatted window. I can see how it does also look like the red toolboxes we find in garages etc., but the grey bits seem to match the mountainside background behind the carriage. Could this image be a hint that the trader has found a way to move along the tracks, explaining their limited availability and replenishment of trading goods? Electric train that runs during an aurora? Or he managed to get an old steam loco up and running (perhaps wanting LOTS of coal as currency)?
  13. The roadmap icon for base customisation is a picture frame. My guess is that you can print custom photos to place around your home- there are lots of photos in most existing houses of identifiable in-game locations, so this could just be a logical extension of that.
  14. Great sleuthing! I'm sure this will be one of many little easter eggs for us to find...
  15. Really interested in how this will affect the difficulty levels. The item that leapt out as a potential game changer for loper would be the arrows. the ability for some level of hunting/ defence without a forge run could really change the dynamic. that said, if there are moggies about that could be a fair trade 🐈
  16. definitely, it's basically a 'redux' for the whole game
  17. https://www.thelongdark.com/expansion/ contains spoilers!
  18. I've never managed to find that note- whereabouts in the office is it?! *edit- hang on, of course I have found it, I'm just in the habit on new runs of picking them up without reading- need to re-read them now though! back on topic, I think your idea makes total sense, especially with the jetty there to land goods/people.
  19. good point! with the loot refresh it's probably best not to make too many plans
  20. DISCLAIMER: I'm by no means a firearms expert/enthusiast. Great spot Ghurcb, thanks for sharing That does look like it could be based on the Enfield carbine variant, or dare I say it, the sniper rifle (scope removed). Have we had any news on whether the reskinned items will have different characteristics to the vanilla versions? I think I speculated (incorrectly) when some teaser art for Blackrock came out, that the rifle on Will sitting by the campfire looked slightly shortened, and could be a carbine looted from the prison with lower weight, perhaps range/accuracy penalties.
