  1. So I am continuing with my Pilgrim run on Desolation Point-- starting to get a bit bored of the area. It might be getting to be time to move on to a new region or even start a new run. One of the disadvantages of living in the Lighthouse is the single burner fireplace-- making it a constant to get fuel and boil water--something like 2 hours of boiling needed for 1 days worth of water. Boring. So I have wandered over to the Stone Church which has a fire barrel with 2 slots, to boil up an excess of water. I think I have explored pretty much all there is here.
  2. So Desolation Point was thin on tools, and whetstones. It provides a decent living with a knife and hatchet (mainly to chop ice to fish) but with these on the wane, I made the transition to Coastal Highway. Normally I hate transition zones, and tend to just play in one zone. But the transition over to Coastal Highway was very easy (even for me!) and so now I am stocking up on necessaries in Coastal Highway before heading back to Desolation Point.
  3. Some of these vanishing bunnies may have been ravished carcasses, but others were ones I picked up and carried to my lighthouse home, and dropped outside the door. Then they were gone. Never mind, the landscape has been bountiful with lots of wolf killed deer to find, who needs bunnies when you have venison?
  4. I am playing Pilgrim level at Desolation Point and over the past few days have constantly vanishing rabbit carcasses.
  5. I am playing in Desolation Point at Pilgrim Level. Over the past few days, there has been a problem with vanishing rabbit carcasses. I pick them up, they are in my backpack, and they vanish. Also, I have placed them outside my door and they vanish. Is this a bug of some sort?
  6. Well, a rabbit grove finally did map-- near the church just as you said. It has been OK so far. I like playing this location on this level, it is a lot more hand to mouth than say, Coastal Highway, and has a more "survival" feel about it, but still low level danger at the Pilgrim level.
  7. Question: is there a rabbit grove or likely place to trap rabbits at Desolation Point? I see lots of rabbits but no rabbit grove maps when I try.
  8. Bored of the easy living Pilgrim style at Coastal Highway, I decided to try a random selection of destination and have landed at Desolation Point. It is beautiful as a place! Just breath taking. I am wandering about the map, enjoying that feeling of really having no idea where I am going, what there is to find, what resources there are... this adds something to the experience. Just as it can be nice to know maps, there is a nice challenge in not knowing maps. As I like very outdoorsy focused settings, this one is to my liking! On day 2, some harvested dear carcasses on my door step of the Lighthouse, and out for a wander on a clear blue day. Lovely!
  9. I think the point about the sheer amount of variety offered in the game is important. The game can be played at different levels or in different styles, depending on the player and what experience they want in the game. I myself play at the lowest easy level (Pilgrim) and do not like industrial landscapes. There is still so much area for me to play in-- I have no complaints at all. Its not necessary to play in industrial landscapes--and I don't. I even limit being in the Hydroelectric plant in Mystery Lake--not my cup of tea. I think that the Long Dark is an amazing, unique and creative game. There is nothing else like it out there.
  10. As it says on the tin--what is the ideal temperature to try to achieve with clothing? I am playing exclusively on Pilgrim level. My char seems happy enough with 24 degrees of clothing--becoming too cold is not an issue. But wondering if there is some rule of thumb? Or just general guidance?
  11. I am a far more recent player but I have to agree. There seems to be more focus on industrial landscapes, less on nature. I do not like the industrial sites myself--I avoid them as much as possible as I do not enjoy playing in them. Fortunately there is enough of nature left for me to enjoy playing in while avoiding the industrial landscapes.
  12. I don't think Great Bear Island is meant to exactly represent a precise geographical location in the real world. I do agree that aspects of it can be inspired by real world places and things, but to me it seems like a fictional imagination of its creators.
  13. The only place I found I could fish in Milton was in the Basin, way down in the area where the Hermit Cabin and cave are.
  14. These are all interesting and informative perspectives. I like to play in an outdoor environment as much as possible. I do not like the "industrial" settings such as the Carter Dam, Blackrock Prison, etc. or even the very civilized setting of Mountain Town, aside from Milton Basin. In all my playing I have never ever found a prepper's stash. Maybe they do not show up on Pilgrim? Or I have no idea what I am looking for?
  15. So, in the interest of expanding my own gameplay, still on Pilgrim level, I decided to try to survive in the Forlorn Muskeg. After toppling through ice numerous times, and several false starts, I finally figured out how to get to the Spence homestead, sprint over weak ice, and always travel light. There are not many food resources and it all soon got a bit dull. My current run began in FM-- but I spawned on the railtracks by the rail tunnel and just headed into Mystery Lake! Any thoughts, hints, tips on FM? I may return on this run after ML gets old.
