  1. Very happy to help! I hope you will have better luck battling that freight-train of hate and hunger!
  2. Well for me, I used an option in steam to display my frame rate (it's very small) in the upper right hand corner of the screen. As far as increasing it... you can try to tweak your graphics settings a little lower, you can get better performance that way at the cost of some visual quality. In my case the issue was I had very old hardware... so I got some newer hardware with more capacity (RAM, better graphics card, ext...) I went from an awful 23 FPS to about 75 FPS... which by most gamers' standards is still low, but it works for me.
  3. Well, lets see... how's your frame rate? I know that low frame rate can make struggles very difficult. I don't remember exactly why... but I remember before I purchased my new(er) laptop, the frame rate on my old one was comparatively very low and I always had a lot of trouble with the struggle mechanics. I don't know if that's your situation... but that was mine. Once I was getting a better frame rate, it was much more responsive and struggles got a lot easier.
  4. Now perhaps I missed something listed earlier, I don't know... so I am just going to ask. Is there any chance that this wonderful short film might be available for download? I know, I can see it anytime on Hinterland's channel on YouTube and things like that... but I bought game's score/soundtrack and I love all of it... and would really love to add this to my collection as well. I mean I would absolutely pay money for a copy I could have on my hard drive.
  5. Seems to me like Pilgrim is just fine as is. If one wants more difficulty/challenge, there are three other modes and several custom options to choose from. Make/find the experience you want.
  6. Yes, but with contextual you will have indicators that become persistent when they are considered to be at critical levels. Which I like, don't get me wrong. I keep my HUD settings on contextual and I love how that works. I'd just never considered trying switching that setting to "off" for the purposes of trying to do a "HUDless" run. And I think @tommykneip stated that using that option didn't fully deactivate all HUD components for him in his experience, and that F10 sometimes still had artifacts from the HUD when he would try to use F10 for screenshots (at least if I understand his statements correctly).
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I'll be sure to drop the question into the Milton Mailbag for next week. (after checking the index first I mean)
  8. Still though, I would consider that some amazingly good fortune... Even with two wolf coats I'd estimate my average chance of spooking the wolves off to be something closer to 1% Is the bear coat really that BA?
  9. As far as that uneasy/spooky feeling... Hibernia (in the main "warehouse" with the huge skeletal remains and gutted machine parts everywhere - looks like Krueger's Hideout) and St. Christopher's church (dead churches are classic spooky).
  10. Getting stealth ambushed by an aurora wolf that quickly ended my life whilst freezing to death and frantically searching for shelter...
  11. A lot of those examples can be mitigated with inventory control, planning your excursions a little more carefully (routes, weather,...), and changing your course when ever possible to provide wind protection so the gusts don't slow you down as much. There are ways to beat those "tedious" moments you mention I can't really offer much help with the drinking though...
  12. I like to think of Jeremiah as an old special ops type who changed his name and disappeared into the seclusion of Great Bear Island... who was once involved in an "incident" on Shadow Moses Island in the Fox Archipelago.
  13. Fair enough, I never tried using that option for a "HUDless" run.
  14. Cool suggestion! Another possibility that comes to mind (and perhaps might be simpler to implement) might be the ability to craft an ice fishing rig... I'm not sure what the actual term for it is. Maybe requiring reclaimed wood, fishing tackle, cloth (or something like this). This way ice fishing could also be a more passive activity like using the rabbit snare. You would set up your rig and wait (or go do something else) until the flag pops up when a fish is caught, and just like the snare if it's neglected for too long the fish would "get away" and need to be reset.
  15. Yeah, I think being able to turn off the HUD at will would be a nice touch. Come to think of it... it might even be an interesting challenge to be able to do a run with no HUD at all. But that is divergent to the topic at hand.
  16. Do you mean the Emergency Stims? Yes, they can be found in the cave and they can be very useful.
  17. I think it's a fine suggestion, I would never criticize anyone for sharing an idea they thought would make the game experience better (though of course that is highly subjective). I was only saying that some penalties (one in particular) was just really wicked and would likely need to be reconsidered were it to be implemented: To put this in perspective... 30 minutes in game-time is only 2m 30s in real-time... so losing 15% condition every 2 1/2 minutes means you pretty much dead in ~15 minutes (well 16m 39s specifically). In contrast it takes 1h 40m to freeze to death (real-time).
  18. Well, I just saw the twitter update about Steadfast Ranger. (much excitement) Although, I really hope that the revisions to the spraining system are more in depth than what looks to me like an incline warning. Perhaps the short GIF that was attached to the post has nothing to do with that (and perhaps I am drawing the wrong conclusion), but it looked to me like it was an incline warning. Perhaps it's just for the steeper inclines maybe? I'm not sure how I would feel about constantly seeing that HUD icon popping in and out whenever I'm not traversing perfectly level ground. Fingers crossed, can't wait to see what's in store.
  19. I've always loved that this is a thing! I loved it in the Carter Dam, I was very happy to find this surprise in at least two caves (that I can think of). It really helps hit home that no place is really safe. If I remember some old posts correctly, I think Fluffy and Scruffy both found new dens in the caves (though I don't know if that was ever anything official).
  20. @ajb1978's advice is spot on. The timing can indeed be tricky. I find what worked for me in general was to set the spear right after it finished raring up and started it's charge... Just like ajb1978 said, you have to set and hold the spear in position (I aim for center mass though I don't know how much of a factor that is) until it reaches you and impales itself in the process. Good luck battling that freight-train of hate and hunger!
  21. Also, when this happened did you report the problem? If not, they might not realize that particular set of circumstances. You could ask about/report on this problem though their support page. This way you will get some direct feedback as to whether they are aware of the issue, whether they already fixed it, or if they still need to work on it. There was/is apparently something similar where if you collected buffer memories, you could not go back and read over them from your journal unless you had already collected a "note left behind" (the problem being if you didn't pick up a note, there was no option to view other collectables).
  22. @hozz1235: I think @thekillergreece was referring to the current animations of them wondering around, occasionally stopping before changing direction, or to howl. I was just pointing out that I think with the new animations seem more articulated and the movements much more natural (even showing some personality, so to speak).
  23. I think the afflictions we have are fine and I trust they will add ones they think would fit/balance well in the future... I appreciate the idea, but a couple of those are really wicked Though if you do want to make life more challenging for yourself on Great Bear Island, you can always keep a hand full of ruined raw gut in your inventory at all times. Life will be more exciting, I promise
  24. It hurts every time an arrow literally runs away never to be found, but this poor soul can see it... but it's just beyond reach.
  25. I think the movement is more articulated now... (though frankly I can't bring up a reliable mental picture of all the wolf animations as they exist now) So far as we've seen, I love everything about this update.
