  1. Timing and aiming the spear can be tricky... I hope you are able to come back to it and overcome that freight-train of hate and hunger! It's a bitter-sweet feeling. Good luck, survivor.
  2. but... that's what F10 does. (though come to think of it, I'm not sure if there is a similar option on consoles)
  3. I think it's more fun having to figure out ways to get to that perfect spot and hitting F10
  4. Fortunately, I only recently started a new run (spawned in HRV and only got as far as Mtn Town)... I figure I am just going to hunker down and stay in Milton for the meantime. I can hardly wait until I can start prospecting through the other regions after the update.
  5. Fair enough. They were indeed named by the community, I just thought perhaps they counted since the names were sort of universally embraced.
  6. I personally really appreciate the approach to making these announcements. The little bread crumbs here and there were a great indication that an update was nearing completion, that we got little hints and teases more frequently told us that an announcement was going to be coming soon, and the announcement within a week of your chosen drop/release date is a great heads up. Thank you Hinterland Team. Thank you for everything.
  7. I wish we could breakdown burned out campfires, even if only as an option to get rid of them when we are done using them. I find myself looking for good places to put them outside, and most often I opt not to just because I will eventually wreck the place with campfires just littered all over. This is also why I don't use fire to thaw carcasses, I know it would make it easier to harvest and keep me warm... but I just can't get past the fact that it will leave a seemingly random firepit there forever. It's silly, I know...
  8. Okay, this is a fun twist. This right here is why I love this community.
  9. Snow balls for distraction tactics and making snowmen... I would be totally on board for both of these. It would be fun to be able to make a snowperson and outfit them with spare clothes
  10. Here are my thoughts on the matter. I agree that tinder should not be irrelevant after one achieves level 3 fire starting... more that the various types of tinder should grant a small boost to the chances of starting a fire or shortening the amount of time it takes to get the fire going... This way it stays useful for much longer.
  11. That's fair enough to say... I think there is a lot of discussion about players feeling that there is not a lot to keep the game challenging when a player is geared up and good at surviving. In some ways I can agree with these opinions from a game play perspective... but I would also say in return that dealing with boredom and restlessness is also part of any long term survival situation in isolation... Boredom is a luxury, it means that you've gotten better as surviving. Having found reliable to care for your basic needs, the mind has time to wonder and get board so you find things to do or risks to take. To paraphrase what Raph has mentioned in the past: weather and wildlife can be brutal but manageable... what will get you in the end are your bad decisions
  12. I think the weather being random and chaotic is part of what makes the game brutal, but fair. Whether a player decides to hunker down in one spot or stay nomadic should be a player choice, and not mandated by a system that is biased toward trying to force players into particular courses of action... In a story mode it would make sense because it's a guided narrative anyway - the story funnels the player toward specific points and goals... but in sandbox I don't think it would be good idea. We already have weather/temp degradation and I feel like that works out fine. We already have a mechanic that forces player movement from indoors to outdoors (cabin fever) and I still personally think it needs some modification. I think as long as you are staying active/productive indoors (like crafting/cooking/repairing/mending) you should be able to "stave off" cabin fever, or being able to read the non-skill books to pass the time (thus giving them another in-game purpose other than being fuel for a fire). My point is that sandbox should be your experience - your story. I feel that additional mechanics that force players to do certain things in sandbox should be kept to a minimum.
  13. Understood. I can see why people would want to do this. I have some ideas. ***** I can see why people would want to do this as well... personally however, I tend to think them as extra storage containers. I know that seems a bit macabre, but since we can't move other small containers to where we might like to have the extra "storage" (I mean beyond just dropping things on the ground indoors or outside)... they do come in handy as containers.
