  1. Ha ha! Thanks. Hinterland definitely deserves credit for this masterpiece of a game they lovingly developed over the last 10 years.
  2. Day 33. Fully kitted out after TWM and then back down through PV and on to ML. Spent a few days there popping a couple deer, reading all my books and getting my clothes to 100%. I figure that the way to the new region could be cold and nasty so I want to have lots of food, water, and stuff to make a snow shelter if blizzard hits. I drop everything that I think I don't need but I am still overweight after I pick up my meat and water even with +10kg carry capacity. It doesn't matter. I am used to walking encumbered. Off I go to BR. I don't investigate anything on the way. I just plow my way through even though it is cold and wind chill. My condition is going down but I know I can make it to the lodge. A blizzard hit on the way and my clothes took a hit. I need to fix them and I am hoping for the 2nd Cowachin sweater that sometimes spawns there even though the loot tables have changed. One can always hope. But lord love a duck it is there! Lots of cloth and a sewing kit to get me back to 100% and read another book. My water and meat are down but then so is my weight. On a clear cold morning I am good to go into the unknown. I should have waited a bit. Too cold. I have 3 bar down as I make my way to the Maintenance Shed but I warm up there and drink some toilet water and pick a couple sodas. Once fully warm I head out. Hinterland wasn't kidding. What a freaking long way! And so interesting! On my way back I have so many places I want to explore. I saw a rope climb but It looked like I would have to goat down to it and didn't want to chance it. Leave it for later. Finally after an eternity of walking I made it to the hub or whatever the region is called. It is awesome in itself. I spent 3 days exploring and mapping it. Not much food there. Only one deer which got me stocked up again. Needed to repair my clothes again and read another book. Hinterland is smart. They only need to open up the transition zones to the other 2 regions to make them work. It is all there and ready to go. I suppose if you want to camp at the train station for a while you could set some rabbit traps and live off them. there are lots of pallets to make reclaimed wood. If you start with the 2 guts from the deer to get 2 traps and trust that you get more bunnies than failures then you will soon be able to add more traps = more bunnies = more food and more traps etc. Plus a deer respawn. Maybe on the way back I will try live there for a while and venture back into the transition zones to explore. Definitely need a home base to run back to when exploring the transitions and if my fragile memory serves it is better from the hub rather than from BR. Oh I almost forgot... all those dark rail tunnels brought back vivid memories of my time working underground mines in my 20's. Especially that the walk was so long and dark with no end in sight. There is nothing like the total darkness of being underground. If your light goes out you will go insane in a hurry! It happened to me once but I knew where I was and could just drag one foot against the rail as I walked until I could finally see the small dot of light that was the mine exit way in the distance. Probably I will have some nightmares for a while. So here I go. Day 33. It's morning. Cold but clear. I pick up all my meat and water. I am heavy but not too slow. I know where the transition to the airfield is and I am on my way. I sure hope I don't die.
  3. Off to a rocky start with the multiple downloads but everyone on steam seemed to be patient with it. It happens. I am a software developer and I know that a big release does not ever work right. Anyway, only took a couple hours to get it done and installed. Fine ever since. Landed in CH at some different location but I recognized it and made my way to the highway. It was refreshing to not know where the carcass spawns were. Had to keep looking at the sky to see where one might be. Also nice that the rifle locations are not fixed like before. I found Barb's riffle propped up and hidden behind a locker in Quonset. Nice! No riffle in DP cave or DP whale factory but I did find a revolver. The bow and an arrow are still at Katie's Secluded Corner which makes DP worthwhile. Also the good enough clothing to get me through PV and on to TWM for the summit. With this run I am not taking my time like before. I am focused on getting to the summit then getting the technical backpack and moose satchel then making my way to the airfield as fully kitted as I can be. Probably need to pause and get some meat and read books before I go. Maybe need to forge some arrowheads but perhaps I can find enough if I go back to PV. Once in the new region I will slow down and explore everything. If I get bored I will exit and loot all the other regions and make my bases like before then jump back in to whatever comes every 8 to 10 weeks. You ROCK Hinterland. Thanks for taking my money!
  4. One more sleep to go! How am I going to resist running straight to the Airfield without going to TWM first? I am betting on some disappointment on the summit of TWM when I don't find all the loot that I expected but I am looking forward to everything being fresh and another 1000 day run!
  5. I'm just moving my guy to all my bases and standing on the porch to watch the weather for a while. Kill a deer for some food and cook it then move to the next base and admire the weather there for a while. Now I am back in CH, my main base, just wasting time until the DLC drops but I don't mind. It is very beautiful to just put my laptop on the coffee table and watch the weather and drink and eat as needed, TLD has become a very relaxing screensaver for now that i can enjoy with my wife while we talk about stuff or just simply watch it. She loves to hear the owls and other birds. My sound system is so amazing that it seems to come from behind us or from far away to the left or right. Hinterland has made something amazing.
  6. Yes this is it. It is what I play. lots of loot but you are fighting the weather and not the doggies or yogi.
  7. I wonder about this. Hinterland stopped showing the number of posts and the number of likes on everyone's profile but you can still see if you click on the person. It is now marked as reputation. Many people had equal or more likes for the number of posts. Really? Everything you say gets a like? 2000 posts and 2000 likes? I wonder if some of you have multiple accounts so you can just like yourself for everything you post to make yourself feal good. I do appreciate to get a like from someone who appreciates my post but I don't expect that everything I say will get an upvote. I just wonder about it. That's all.
  8. I would love to try headphones for the sound but i can't. I play my game on my laptop on the couch next to my wife who plays some ghastly farming game on her tablet sitting next to me. Of course we talk to each other while we play and she often asks me what Will is moaning about, and I ask her what is that cow doing over there.... is it taking a dump or what?? And what's with the chickens? So.... If I put headphones on it would be tantamount to ignoring my wife which would cause me instant pain and grief and no sex for a month. So no headphones Still... sound is awesome! My Alienware laptop (how can you call it a laptop when it is so freaking hot that I have to put it on a thick coffee table book before I can put it on my lap) generates a 3D sound so that a little bird chirp seems to come from behind my left ear. This game is so awesome.
  9. It is early morning and a clear but cold day. Winter. I am standing on the porch of PV farmhouse. There is a low background sound. Not wind. Just a low dull roar. Like a waterfall but far away that you can barely hear. This is exactly what winter sounds like in central Canada. Hinterland has captured the sound of it exactly. I think it is the ice crystals in the air rubbing against each other that makes this dull roar but whatever, winter is not silent. Hinterland captures the details of everything cold. I often just stand on the porch of my base wherever it is and just watch and listen for days. The sounds that HL have put into the game are awesome. Sometimes I just put my laptop on the coffee table and let it run and watch the weather and listen to the sounds. My wife likes to hear the owls and other night birds. What other game studio would go to this level of detail? Only Hinterland. How many different bird sounds did you add? I can't remember but it was some huge high number. I want to think 1500 but I think it was more like 15000 if I remember from a Milton Mail Bag question. Take my money for DLC and don't listen to the horrible prolific posters that have nothing good to say about anything. You guys ROCK! I am so looking forward to anything you produce. What you have given so far is beyond anything your players could have imagined.
  10. I'm in BRM at the moment with a big load of cooked Deer. Gonna pick it all up and make my way back to TWM, camp at the hut for a few days and watch the weather, then back to PV farmhouse for a while for old time sake, then off to my CH base to admire all my loot. Maybe fix up all my hacksaws to 100% then stand on the porch and watch the sunset. Can't wait to start a new run with DLC!!!!
  11. The star map is not based on real constellations. Nice to look at though. The whole sky with stars and moon all rotate in sync at night. I don't think anyone ever uses sun or moon or such to navigate. Best to know landmarks. You have to go out and travel the region to learn the major landmarks and then you will know exactly where you are at any given time. What I first did when learning the game was to find a safe place to base then travel out from there to collect wood, food, etc then back. Next day go a different direction. Eventually you build a whole mental map of everything around you and you can move on to a new location and do the same until you know the entire region. Of course you could always look up the player created maps on the wiki but in my opinion it is much better to learn it by exploring. I have done both. Looked at maps and later decided to never look at a map again. I use my IRL hiking trick: After walking a while, turn around and look back to where you came from, so that on the way back it looks familiar.
  12. They are likely very busy with the upcoming DLC launch and not in bug mode unless it is a game breaker. I have always eventually got a response from them on bug reports.

haha. Yes with the black and white test pattern. 😁

I always thought that instead of music (which implies something is still working out there) that there should just be static like when the old analog AM radios were tuned between stations, but there would be some ghostly sort of almost words that you can't quite make out and could just be your imagination. Analog and static: Yes I am old.
  15. That is some serious OCD! Good on you!
  16. Well people. I read all your angst and worries and speculation, and I held off from commenting until now. I fully trust Hinterland to deliver something fantastic and true to their ethics. Every update and enhancement they have made over the years has met with angst. Torch, cooking, fire starting, etc. But after a while we all loved it. The game that they have developed over the years is truly remarkable. There is nothing like it. Now they want to deliver more for a few pennies per thousand hours of play. Take my money Hinterland. Take it! And thank you Raph for your vision and for the studio that you run. And for all your developers that put their heart into this awesome immersion that we live in.
  17. Thanks for the call out. I didn't get any notice of it until today. Anything that makes for more randomness is good for replayability. The locations for saplings is good because they are not always in the same place. But Deer carcasses are always in the same place so on a new run you always know where to go to get them for some food and guts and pelts. It seems to take some of the panic away because I know I can get deer pants or boots relatively quick instead of running and freezing and mostly being almost dead. With the above said... Maybe HL has already changed this because a deer carcass location in TWM has no carcass anymore.
  18. Nice! Always drink a warming tea before going outside in the morning. I guess the wishlist will be full of sled requests for a while.
  19. Yeah I asked Raph in a Milton Mailbox and he said the flying crows (not the circling ones) mean nothing. I miss the Mailbag.
  20. Yeah. I dropped the rifle during the mauling and it disappeared under the porch. More Murphy's.
  21. Shooting at a bear from the porch while crouched, panic when he charges and you absolutely will forget to uncrouch while franticly trying to get to the door in time.
