  1. Talking of this, I would want to do other things while in bed, too. Like sewing, taking things apart and such stuff.
  2. I was also pretty disappointed by the version for survival mode. I thought, it could be used as a base. But not only is the way so long, all the animals like wolves respawn. There's often a bear that you can't realistically evade. And all of that for just some rooms and the bullet proof jacket.

  4. Well, my point is: Why do it have to be torches which are pulled out of the fire? Surely, you pull something out of the fire, but why are that the same item that you can craft with clothes. I would make it just a different item (brands), which offers wild balancing options. You don't have to wildly nerf 'pull stuff out of the fire', but there are the mentioned things - chaining and fire chance - which are basically op. Not per se, but for items you pull out of fire where you just put sticks in. Torches then could have completely different properties - like the fire chance. Brands then would not be reignitable, but are still torches in every other aspect.
  5. Looks great, thanks for the hard work. I'm a bit worried, that the balance of the game could shift or it feels like somethings missing besides the new features. But I also think, it won't last long, if that's the case. Not only does HL love this game, but the amount of openness to voices from the community is unbelievable!
  6. *Candles. I mean candles, lol. Candles are a very good idea.
  7. https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/19526-nerf-the-torch-bring-back-the-brand/ https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/41956-firebrands-should-return/ https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/23298-the-return-of-the-brand/ Just to gather the discussions already done about this. Torches are op. The ability to chain torches - just pulling as many torches out of a fire as you want and then having light for as long as you want - should be removed. Personally I play with the non-op-torches mod, which breaks torches on extinguish when under 50%. When not being able to pull torches out of the fire that are over 50%, you can't stack torches, because you can't reignite them. That's more a band aid then a solution. I think the best way is to bring brands back. When you pull something out of the fire it's nothing like a torch (with cloth and oil), it's just a stick. Maybe you can't even pull a burning stick out but rather make a stick from you inventory burn. Either way, such a brand can be used to light another fire, scare away wolves or walk through a cave. But it burns much more shortly than a torch and can't be reignited or just by fire. But you can put it into a fire which gives it heat and burn time proportional to the condition of the brand. Torches are a very good idea (I think there was some discussion, too, but I'm too lazy to search them out). For that there's also a mod, so you could use that in the meantime.
  8. Well, I think the concept is that there are these frequent electromagnetic storms which destroy electricity while also making it magically work, so that it works only during these storms called aurora. So all electric stuff is dead overall, except for the aurora. This whole thing kinda means, nature does weird stuff. The occurence of these strong magnetic storms isn't normal, distracts wildlife and stuff, so you can assume, the whole magnetic field of earth is somehow broken. Like that the compass does not only not work during aurora but also in all the other times due to the weird stuff happening to earths magnetic field.
  9. Sry, but I think all of this is unrealistic. First of all: From a technical standpoint the maps aren't made for this. You would have to rebuild all the train tracks and put some system on it for all the repair stuff and any vehicle to drive on it. That effort would only be made, if it was really worth it. Second: I think it wouldn't be worth, even destroy the feeling of TLD. TLD is about making the best from what you have. It lives from limitations. You suddenly being able to bring highly complex and powerful machines to work would clearly go against that philosophy. If you have a bike, you know, that you need some work put into it so that it works properly. If you have a car, you know, there's pretty much work you (or anyone) has to put into it, so it works properly. Things like trains need teams of people who regularly check everything (in a factory that has all tools needed). You alone being able to build and maintain such a train or tracked steam engine is unrealistic. Well, nobody stops Hinterland programming it like that. There's a car mod (or atleast was). But it would go against all logic. The hand wagon would be discussable in that way. It's probably maintainable even by one person. You wouldn't be (or go) much faster than by foot, but you could take much more cargo with you. That alone would work. But still you would have to repair the tracks. Is it realistic to repair a train track alone? Well, since we're not talking about trains but just a hand wagon you wouldn't have to weld the tracks together where they are broken. But still, you would have to bend metal beams together close enough and you would have to fill gaps with new beams all while maintaining an equal distance between both metal beams. There's so much effort that it's not worth. Especially considering that there are frequently other wagons there, that you really cannot move. You wouldn't go far. All this is considering a view from reality. You can program your game as you want, jumping 20m high, moving wagons with bare hands, having cars that can't be broken. The question is: What do you want to program in? Since TLD is oriented on reality, you shouldn't be able to do unrealistic things. So in my opinion, it's unrealistic seeing these things ingame at any point in the future (not just improbable).
  10. Yeah, you got it! I really like all of these suggestions. This adds really much to late game, since there's finally something meaningful to do then. *I just imagined the chainsaw working like the bear spear in Ep2 to kill wolves and probably bears* For the aurora wolf: Agree. In my opinion the ai overall should be rewritten.
  11. For all these: In my opinion they should be mildly useful. Like that they aren't the one life hack or something. There should be much effort in maintaining these things and/or much risk using them. Like the chainsaw: Use it to cut the whole forest down during aurora and you have wood for then next weeks, just need to collect it. But you have to repair it beforehand and it will probably jam at some point and you won't get any use out of it that night. For all of it: You don't know whether it works at all, maybe the stove will just be cold and nothing happens. TLD is a game about making the best out of what you have. Reliability speaks against that. So these 'op' things should all have their drawbacks so that they don't become your one and only gameplay mechanic.
  12. Hi guys, the new dev diary is out and man, did Raph go hard on himself. I just feel like, I wanna share some thoughts of mine and with this thread open the door for other people to share their thoughts. So maybe there can be some priorities of the community be made clear. So I think, normally such a critique isn't something you would see else where. These statements are mostly intern (the whose fault is it? discussion) and publicly there's only a plain statement to explain stuff. This honesty is really great and I think it's strong Raph sees the mistakes on his own. The explanation he gives is also very plausible and it's fine. I don't come from the time, where there were frequent updates, so I don't feel like I need them. I started playing during Covid and I didn't even see the whole area - not to mention remembering every part of the maps (i.e. where to find loot). So I also didn't play Tales yet. I bought the expansion mostly because I wanted to help Hinterland. I payed less when I bought TLD due to the social distancing fundraiser. I visited the new map (and man, I really like it), but I didn't play Tales yet. So in terms of frequency - I can wait, have still much to do in TLD. I'd rather wait then have poor quality. I even rather play in the pre update version, because some mods haven't updated that I like playing with (especially Hunger Revamped). I can't speak for the switch and other people, but they may feel the same. The old versions don't become bad or lame when new versions come out. Or put differently: The fun in the game doesn't depend on new stuff coming out frequently. I really like the wish for independence of Hinterland and I support it. Well, I would support it more, if the Hinterland Store reopened - AHEM. I like, where the game is and I also like the ideas of where it will go. I will support it and play it for a long long time. Having said that, I like the ability to self critique and I think it's very important to be able to do it in a constructive manner. And Raphael did that. With that, I don't fear the game becoming lost and becoming something, nobody wants. In my view, the game is still on the right track and we'll land somewhere we feel pleasant to be. I can't wait for episode 5. My priorities aren't new content (there's really enough at some point), maybe focus on the existing mechanics - there are so many ideas: Like I said, I always play with the Hunger Revamped mod. Some new arrow types, better animal AI. I would like to see some of that stuff reworked at some point. I don't need 100 new items over the next 10 years, they don't make the game "better", they could just add to it or in worst case break it. Ok, I digress. That's all I wanted to say. I really wouldn't like to see my opinion be the only one here. So please - whoever reads this - write your opinion on the statement from Raphael on your personal priorities when it comes to the direction TLD goes. Love you all and the game and see you later...
  13. https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/41986-factors-for-loot-randomness/ https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/39694-more-loot-randomness/ Hinterland, I appreciate, what you do and love your game, like I think everyone here. This shouldn't be understood as criticism or judgement, just my opinion and where I see potential. So I'd like to see more loot randomness between different runs. This topic is discussed in the threads above. As the new dev diary introduces a new static system - there are 9 prepper bunkers and 3 of them fully equipped - I felt like to comment on that. The part where each fully equipped bunker has it's own feel represented in loot is very cool, I like that. But the fact, that there are always 3 fully equipped bunkers, even when they are located somewhere else between different runs, makes it kinda static. Once you know where each bunker spawns, you walk the same route to find them. Once you found the 3 bunkers, you are less likely to go to the others, since you can't expect a fully equipped one anymore. I'd rather like a more dynamic system, where between runs there is unclear, how many bunkers spawn and even, how many are fully equipped or empty. Maybe the bunkers could be introduced in the visor system.
  14. Its also pretty unrealistic, that you can run fullspeed with 5% health. That kind of anti realism is part of video game reality. Just saying. I would welcome that kind of change, the one with the wolves. But I would also welcome different behavior when on low health. A wounded wolf wouldn't carelessly go into the next fight. Or it's under adrenaline and even more aggressive.
  15. Man, I like your ideas. I'm not sure, whether it's too much realistically to make, but it's in my opinion the ideal Hinterland could strive for. I would really wish for procedural worlds. TLD is cool, but I really don't like, that the first part after spawn becomes routine. You exactly know, where to look for loot. You make maybe some decisions (going for forge in FM or DP, but knowing where forges are), but all in all, your spawn decides your way through the first gameplay hour. I envision a procedural world, where you always have to first find out about the environment and find things. Maybe you find parts of maps or whole maps, so you know, where to go. And without maps, you'd be pretty much lost. Such a system could play with hope pretty much.
