  1. I think goating is quite ok due to the risk involved. There is always a trade off in TLD with what decision you make. I seldom goat because it makes my heart rate go through the roof, but there are some places where it is advantageous to do so. Normally I will just go down the rope then rest and go up again to get more stuff, for example when looting TWM summit. I think it is one of those things that is a player choice and I don't see anyone supporting less choice in TLD which is built in to the permadeath feature of the game. Wrong choice and you die. Goat down and sprain everything and tear your clothes up then get wolfed and a blizzard hits.
  2. Actually reading this just inspired me to go back to my 800+ run (been doing jigsaw for the last month. Got bored after doing Blackrock) and finish mapping Frozen Delta. The cold and lack of food drove me out but now I want to head out through the FM cave and find the other 2 hunters blinds and take out that moose up there. Blackrock got me used to dealing with cold and condition loss. Firewood is definitely an issue too. Maybe I will see how long I can stay there with fishing and searching for wood. Truthfully... I always go back to TLD. I was waiting for the despawning carcass bug to be fixed to I could start a new run with some more difficult settings but I cant wait now. BI is brutal and will be some more good training for my soon to be new character. It will be Astrid this time. She is not so whiney. But she will have plenty to whine about with the new settings I am planning!
  3. I would like more spawn locations for things which equates to more randomness. After playing thousands of hours and many different runs i know where every carcass spawns, every potential sapling, every ax, crowbar, etc. In ML for example, i have no reason at all to walk the ridges that surround Trappers cabin because I know that there is nothing up there to find other than sticks. I will never find a sapling or anything else. When I spawn in CH I know exactly where all the bodies are to check, where the carcasses are for harvesting hides and guts to cure, where to search for the crowbar and ax, so after a few days I am pretty much set.
  4. sardines are evil! I got FP from those too many times so i just drop them. My experience is that FP risk varies with the type of food. Dry stuff like crackers and jerky seem to always safe. Peanut butter, condensed milk and Sardines seem to be more risky.
  5. I took my laptop with me down to Mexico before the pandemic and was playing TLD outside on the patio in 28deg C sunny weather with tropical birds chirping and the sound of people splashing in the pool when my friend looked up from his book and said "Is that a blizzard I hear???"
  6. I like the subtle humour in the clothing descriptions. Something else that is funny is that HL being a Canadian company based in BC uses a forum site with American spell check. The word "humour" is red underlined and wants me to write humor instead. Ok. So humor it is then.
  7. You are welcome. As long as you can still play TLD you will be good
  8. There is something spraypainted on a trailer outside the cannery about wolves if I remember. I think HL should change the BR message to be a spray paint rather than stenciled. When you are dying by wolf attacks and want to leave a message for fellow survivors I don't think you would stencil it.
  9. Microsoft has quietly become a master defender against attacks given that their OS has so many holes in it. They have become somewhat security experts so you can pretty much rely on it. I have about 60 users in my company running home computers and no one has ever reported a virus to me using WD. Nor have I ever gotten one since Win 7 and I am on internet all the time looking up stuff. Yes you are being overly cautious Avast has nowhere near the experience or resources of Microsoft.
  10. Just uninstall it and windows defender will assert itself. WD is quiet and does not report much but it is very effective for home and small biz use. Im assuming you are on win10
  11. I got this bug also in a new run started in CH. It was a book on the floor of the car on CH highway between the log sort and Quonset. Didn't matter which door i went in. Could not get a hitbox.
  12. yeah get rid of Avast if you are on windows. (IT guy speaking.)
  13. I don't think Hinterland will reply to anything in wishlist. But Raph has said in a Milton Mailbag or some other post that the store has too much exposure to couriers and such and so it is high risk. Now with Omicron hitting BC really hard there is no foreseeable return. You can google "cbc interactive covid" to see what the state of covid is in BC (British Columbia Canada.) But I agree that I would love to see the store open again. I want a Hinterland jacket while it is still winter that I can wear out so that other TLD players out there will nod my way, wink and say "Stay frosty."
  14. I just finished this cave walk. Quite amazing. I started from my cave a bit north of Stairsteps Lake and walked a log down to the river then into the Reclusive falls entrance. I wanted to start there rather than in the middle green entrance so i could do the grand tour up to the fire signal. I knew about the previous 2 entrances but never knew about the signal fire entrance. It is a bit hidden when you are exploring around the signal fire area. It was so easy to navigate without even a second look at your map. I just kind of had it in my head and all the turns fit with what I expected the directions to take me to get to the red exit. Once I got out and walked around a bit to orient myself its like "Oh. Its here? The signal fire is just down there..." Now that I knew exactly where I was I decided to take the long route home and compare the time and effort, so back up to Mammoth lake cave, grab a bottle of water from my stash there from a previous camping trip, then down the mountain to the north side of the map and the 2 camping caves on that side. After taking a peek inside to see if my hides were still curing and if i left any teas, I looped around to the east and down to the river, then back up my log to get to my Stairsteps Lake cave. Wowsers! That took a long time. By comparison the cave was a teleport machine. Nice job @piddy3825 Kudos!
  15. Wait! What?? Is this an acknowledgement that you added something strange to PV farmhouse?
  16. There is a rifle under one of the hibernia cots that you can only see by crouching and wiggling around until your aiming dot lights up on the tiny piece of rifle butt visible. I wish i had taken a screen shot.
  17. +1 on listening to the various HL music rather than classical. I never turn on the radio during aurora since finding that it only plays the same every time. Alternatively: rather than music, static and creepy barely discernable something that sounds like a voice saying something. Nothing distinct enough to give you any assurance that there was someone else alive.... but just maybe?
  18. I just finished exploring this cave. It made a lot more sense to see it how it actually is and not worry about the warp of spacetime or matching the exits to the surface. Thanks for taking the suggestion. I will do the other cave next. I came specifically to HRV to do these.
  19. My wife hates the "fart eating" sound as she calls it.
  20. Awesome. Yeah it doesn't make sense when you try to match the cave system with the HRV map. But seeing it alone in 3D makes a lot more sense. Next time I am in HRV I will explore the caves again with your map.
  21. Custom Stalker with Agro off, lots of loot but really cold, max item decay. I play long game. 500+ or even 1000+ and I want the weather to fight me all the way.
  22. Raph has said he is exploring DLC and official modding for TLD after EP5. I think TLD will here for a long time. No more story but survival will continue for sure.
  23. I only did the ice caves once just so I could say I did them. I would rather go around. HRV is one of my fav places and I learned every corner of it. But yeah I was surprised where I came out at the end of the ice cave walks.
