After finding the "secret lab" with the "machine", I fully explored the observation room and finished the tale. I came away scratching my head though: What was the purpose of the machine? Why did Rudiger put it there? What was he hoping to achieve? Were we lead there to get "another piece of the puzzle" without fully understand what the end-game is?
I guess I need to go through and re-read all the logs/books/notes/etc. and see if I missed something.
I get BRR I've reported the bug and here was their response:

Thank you very much for your patience!

I haven't even started the tale yet. I haven't found the respirator either but I have managed to explore all of level 3 of the mine (working level 2 now). It appears you can dash through the gas zones (similar to BR Mine). Yes, I have used spraypaint extensively for helping to mark out the mine. Huge underground complex!!
I also found the 2nd Sports Bow.
I haven't built a travois yet, but I imagine they would make a great storage container to be left in certain places (perhaps somewhat replacing rock caches?). Wonder what their decay rate is if left outside/inside.
I've played for about 5 hours so far.
Love the new howling wind sound in caves
Love how harvested animals now visually show as “ravaged” and realistic!
Love the mine interiors
Finally found Miner’s Flashlight!
Zone is so big! One of my favorite parts of this game - just exploring new places
So many new assets. Glad to see just not recycling old.
New music tracks are great! One does kind of remind me of Stranger Things soundtrack though
More coming soon, I'm sure!
I've only been in ZoC since update, but I have noticed a larger quantity of maple saplings than normally experienced. No doubt to account for their need in fabricating the travois.
