  1. This is like me not knowing you could flip the visors for like a year. In our defense both are pretty pointless.
  2. I get your point, but I personally feel like 'MASHMASHMASH' was unfitting for the context of "Try to stab a bear in it's vital area", I think that it fits with "Fight for your life with a wolf", because there you're not trying to strike the vital area, you're just trying to whack the wolf enough to save your bacon, so accuracy is not really a concern. I will agree with the first part, yes MASHING has been a very common thing in games for many years and will unfortunately (to me) stay forever. I even think that having a different quick time would confuse certain new players. "Of no I'm being attacked by a wolf! How do I get it off me?! What is that weird circle to the side- Oh I'm dead" is what I imagine how a lot of new players would react if something else was in it's place. So having a new mechanic would need some sort of explanation, which goes against the game being an "uncompromising survival experience" Kind of reminds me of the very early versions of the game where the wolf fighting had a second step where you had to mash with left mouse, then press right mouse to "unleash power" to fight off the wolf. I wasn't playing the game at the time, but I did play those versions through the time capsule briefly and that version of the struggle really threw me off, which is likely the case for many new players at the time, and also likely why they changed it to only include the first step. As for breaking immersion I never really cared about immersion, especially when there are already a crap ton of things that break it to begin with. Like having a HUD, or and inventory screen, or a full days time going by in an hour. I get why some people care about immersion, I'm just not one of them. My overall thoughts likely won't ever change, if a bear spear gets added, and has 'MASHING' be it's intended use, then I won't be up in arms, I just simply won't use it. So yeah let's agree to disagree and move on.
  3. Yes, I actually fish very often. I actually sometimes find it more satisfying to catch a few Smallmouth Bass or Coho Salmon with 2 thousand calories on them then to shoot a deer. I kinda wish that Hinterland would improve the fishing in some way, like having some minigame, instead of it just being a ", Level up and pray to the RNG Gods" moment.
  4. Hey, talking about my other favorite survival game are ya? But really everyone should give it a try if you're into zombies and survival.
  5. I should have made this more clear in my original post, but the reason why I found the spear in Wintermute to be annoying was all it was was just MASHMASHMASHMASHMASHMASH, unless they changed that then I would want no part of using it. And yes I know you can change that in accessibility options (which yes I have done), but that then makes the struggles too easy. If I had a say in it, I would replace the "MASHMASHMASHMASHMASHMASH" event with something akin to Shadow of Wars "second chance" quick time event. Where you have to move your cursor into a circle then press a specific button, repeat 3 times or so, failing to do so in time would result in a mauling, and potential death. If your character was low on fatigue than perhaps you would be hindered by having less time, or your cursor would move slower, or maybe even both. As for wolf struggles, I would replace it with the same thing, instead the time limit would be your own condition bar. And perhaps using a hammer as your struggle weapon would make you only have to do the quick times even twice instead of three times. And using a revolver would let you do the event once, then you can fire to scare off/kill the wolf.
  6. I kinda doubt a bear spear would really work in survival mode. To me the fight with 'Old Bear' was rather dull and tedious after the first encounter with him at the second radio tower, and while I actually enjoyed the sort of stealth section with him in his lair it was brought down again having to stab with the spear some more. When it was over I was more like "Ugh, it's finally over" rather than "Yes, I did it!" And having the bear spear in survival mode would basically be that tedium but potentially an infinite amount of times. I can only really see the bear spear being added to a 'Hunted Part 3 challenge' if they ever get around to completing that story line.
  7. I believe the focus should be on adding more wildlife long before we should even consider adding more 'proper' firearms. As it stands we have only seen two new animals get added to the game since release, the moose and the timber wolves, and timber wolves are just a a variant of normal wolves so more like 1 and a half new animals. Animals that can still be added include foxes, beavers, ducks, geese, cougars, brown bears, polar bears, elk, caribou, bison, bighorn sheep, pronghorn sheep. The reason as to why I think animals should come before new firearms is because as it stands the current firearms are enough to hunt (Or defend yourself) any animal in the game, but if more animals were added that I could see the benefit of having more guns. Example: huntable birds (ducks) are added, so a shotgun would make sense to be added since hunting ducks without a shotgun is next to impossible unless they landed.
  8. I honestly think that a better solution would be to make it so feats can be achieved in custom mode to begin with. While I get some people will make the game as easy as possible to "grind out" out the feats, I feel like that isn't really a big deal because firstly it's a single player game, so "cheating" is not an issue, and it shouldn't be. And secondly the feats for the most part don't provide a good enough bonus to make a game changing difference anyways. So if someone was to make the easiest game possible to get some rather pointless buff, who really cares? At most I think a good middle ground would be to make it so that game can detect weather the custom difficulty is too easy and say "Feats and achievements disabled" like how some other games have been doing it.
  9. "There wasn't a restroom here..."
  10. I will just give my thoughts quickly on all of these 1. Sure, they can be nice as a very early light source before acquiring a lantern, but I don't think they would have much use after that unless you want to have a "Comfy dinner night" or are low on fuel. 2. Yes please 3. I typically play a nomadic playstyle, never really staying in one base for more than a week, so I don't think I would like this. As fore more homebody player, I feel like gardening would either be a little too "micromanagey" or just straight up OP 4. Maybe for lower difficulties, but part of the challenge on higher difficulties is the randomness of where loot drops. 5. Biking in the snow would not be feasible at all. The only faster transportation (That isn't a static point A-B use like a zipline) that would make sense would be horses, but those would be useless in most regions with climbing ropes being common place. 6. Not entirely sure what your asking for here... 6A. Crafted food would be alright of they gave some sort of temporary buff. Eating "4-5 kilos" is there for game balance. 6B. Hunting birds is not a thing because the only bird present are crows, and they aren't so much "animals" (At least compared to the other animals in the game currently) as they are "Ambient textures" that drop feathers near bodies. And hunting them without a shotgun, or without them landing is practically impossible for the average person. And as of right now the game has enough "proper" firearms. 6C. Two bear hides making one coat is another game balance thing. 6D. Making a fishing hole is already a thing. 6E. Washing would be tedious. Same as having to "answer the call of nature" if you get what I'm saying. 6F. Eating rose hips as a 'last ditch' food option is an all right idea. 7. While I would like to see seasons (And I think even Hinterland wanted it at one point) it almost certainly is not an idea anymore for multiple reasons. The main thing is that for the past several years TLD is made as a winter survival game, and a new season would firstly partially throw all that out a window, and secondly require them to build an entirely separate game essentially. So it's sadly not possible for TLD, maybe for a potential sequel in the future. 8. The only multiplayer I would like is a Subnautica like "Time capsule" system. I already talked about my idea in another post. Go hear and look for my reply if you want to hear it: 9. While I personally didn't have much trouble with episode 4 difficulty wise (except with the toxic gas in the mine) I can see why some more easy going players would find is too difficult, and do agree it should be toned down for episode 5. 10. It's not possible. and likely never will be. The wolves are hyper aggressive due to the aurora having some affect on them, which is why they start to glow and become worse when an aurora is active. So those are my though, I hope I didn't come off a rude. I only want to rebuttal with your ideas (Or anyone elses). and have no ill thought on any individual here
  11. I do believe that is an option with this mod. The fox won't die from starvation if you don't feed them however, it just won't be able to do certain task for you until you feed them.
  12. The only way I could see multiplayer being added was if a lot more indirect than the more traditional multiplayer. A good example of the this would be Subnautica's "Time Capsule" mechanic. A quick run down of what the Time Capsule in Subnautica was incase you don't know, when you complete the game, you are given the option to leave a Time Capsule for another player to find somewhere in the world. The Time Capsule would be filled with a few items, along with a message, and a picture to add a bit of personality to them. The Long Dark could have something similar. Perhaps in the world you can find an item called a "Empty Drop-off bag" There would only ever be one of these in a game world, and if you do find it, then when your character eventually dies, you are then given the option to use the Drop-off bag for another player to find. You can fill the bag with 5kg/11lbs of whatever you like. Along side this you could leave a message telling how you died, or leave an encouraging (or discouraging) message and a screenshot you took that life, or if you didn't take a screenshot, it could instead be a picture of the moment you died. The Players Drop-Off bag would then be left somewhere around where they died. So if they died in the Clearcut location in Mystery Lake, then the bag would be in that area. Another thing is if you are playing on interloper, than you can't find Bags that contain items that don't spawn in interloper, such as firearms.
  13. From someone that thinks Wintermute is just decent I can say the reason as to why I don't like it is because I find survival mode to be so much better. The Long Dark is one of my favourite game ever, being one of two of my favourite survival games ever made, and it is because of mainly survival mode. I don't hate Wintermute but I don't see myself replaying them after I'm done playing them for the first time. However survival mode I think I will be replaying for many years to come. As to the specific reason is because Wintermute has a set in stone story line. Now some people like that, and sometimes I do to depending on the game. But for TLD I think it's better when I make up my own story, rather then just following the story of Will and Astrid. Overall though I do like parts of Wintermute, but I like to stay in survival mode a lot more.
  14. I feel like the survivor in survival mode as a different backstory from Will and Astrid. Yes I know that the survival mode starts with the "A geometric storm brought your plane down yada yada", but that message has been in the game since the very first version, long before Story mode was added. That message could be that relic from when survival mode was the only mode (and back when it was called sandbox mode) and was also a "Placeholder" so to speak for Story Mode, as in Sandbox was the Story Mode for the time being. I feel like once Story mode was officially added, Sandbox was changed to Survival and became it's own separate story in a way, taking place some time after Wintermute, and from the perspective as some unnamed survivor stuck on Great Bear. Although I still have no idea why the "A geometric storm brought your plane down" is still shown. Maybe for newer player to imagine a scenario on how they ended up here before they get a chance to get used to the game and come up with their own story.
  15. Well crap, the feds will be after me for installing the "Thomas the Tank Engine replacing all dragons" Skyrim mod.
  16. You're right, I remember this as well. I wonder if it's something that is still going to be brought up, or if it's been "retconned" since redux is no longer true to the story.
  17. You start taking water from your toilet to drink later... Just me?
  18. I mean you kinda can if you go into audio setting and turn voice all the way down, and make sure subtitles are off. If you have decent set of headphone you can still hear the echo of Will/Astrid's voice however. Also be sure to turn audio back up whenever you decide to go into Story mode.
  19. Custom interloper, where the only difference is I turn off survivor monologue.
  20. I never heard anyone hate on HRV...
  21. 50. Save file deletion Some people messed up the counter so I fixed it.
  22. I think I would like to fix up Mountaineer's Hut on TWM. First step into turning this place worthy of any vacation is to fix up that roof. Us survivors can't be expected to sleep while snow is falling on them. Second I would like to make some sort of grill for the fire place. Maybe some more containers... And an open window. Only then can the place be called home.
  23. My most hated feature a game could add (aside from predentary money schemes like lootboxes) is "player invasion" akin to Dark Souls Incase you don't know what I'm talking about it's when your in a single player world and other players have the option to invade your world and try and kill you, or mess you up in other ways. I remember playing Watch Dogs and it having that dumb system "Oh you need to go make lunch or something and pause the game? NOPE game is multiplayer now, deal with your invader!" at least Watch Dogs had the option to turn that crap off, other don't offer that luxury... Sooo if I had to pick a feature that nobody brought up yet, that would be it I guess.
  24. My first run was in pilgrim mode. I remember seeing both voyageur and stalker mode (This was before interloper and custom mode were added) and saw that hostile wildlife was a thing and think "Nope I don't want to deal with that" and went with pilgrim. I made it to about day 50 when I started to get bored without hostile wildlife so I started a new game in voyageur. Second day when wolves started spawning I pretty much instantly got pounced as I left the door. I ended up running around bleeding looking for bandages. couldn't find any and gave up before I died. Went back to menu, delete voyageur mode save, back to pilgrim.
