  1. I personally use the revolver all the time. I would not want it to be replaced by another gun.
  2. Being able to use the coffee machines to cook 5 cups of coffee all at once would be awesome!
  3. I think the only guaranteed rifle spawn is And I am pretty sure that there is a guaranteed firearm spawn Rifles can usually be found at some major landmarks of each region, and revolvers are added in all over the place. You can even find revolvers in the snow next to frozen corpses!
  4. I've sat by a fire in the Blackrock Prison yard (where there are 3-4 wolves) and harvested a rabbit or one of the wolves, and none of the other 3 wolves have ever bothered me. It must be a bug for them to attack in your case. Try taking a torch from the fire and holding it as your harvesting. It will probably go out by the time your done, but wolves and bears will keep their distance for a few minutes while you're holding a torch. They will also run away if you throw the torch correctly (usually the torch has to actually hit a bear for it to run away).
  5. If we had pancake mixes, a griddle would be awesome! (Well, a griddle would be awesome regardless lol.) - What if Sewing Machines were added around the map? They would repair clothes quicker and more efficiently. - Electric tools. The only tool I can think of that'd be useful is a chainsaw for anybody who wants to quickly cut down limbs in the middle of the night, though.
  6. That's a good idea. I too trap myself behind a fire in order to avoid predators or wind and then have to wait for it to burn out. I also don't like waiting for a fire to burn out to get the charcoal (if the fire has an hour left and you put it out though, you shouldn't be able to get the 1 charcoal for that last hour).
  7. The game does a good job of making saving easy but makes "Alt+F4ing" slightly difficult. If you are out hunting, you miss your shot, and you want to reload your last save, you might have to go clear back to in-game hours ago when you first woke up at your base, which is far away from where you're hunting. You could pass time an hour to save at the hunting spot, but you are having to sacrifice time, calories, and potentially warmth if it's cold. If the game needed more ways to save the game, what if the game saved when a blizzard starts? That is, if we are trying to prevent people from reloading their last save. But ruining other people's enjoyment by forcing them a save when they want to go back on a single player game may not be the best decision. If they are playing this for the enjoyment, let them reload their last save instead of rage quit the game. I suggest a hardcore mode and a forgiving mode. Would this be difficult to implement this far into production? Probably, but it's an idea. Hardcore mode would be as it is now; autosaves on afflictions and maulings, and permadeath. Forging mode would allow save-anywhere and possibly disable permadeath, though I know that The Long Dark's way of doing things has always been permadeath (except for Wintermute). I suppose I'm suggesting a survival mode that is basically Wintermute without the missions and without boundaries. Sorry, I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion on your discussion.
  8. This is a good idea. I'd like to be able to sneak up on a deer and kill it by hand. However, if this were to be implemented, the deer AI would need improved. It would be too easy as it is since deer will run through you if you scare them. They would also need a larger detection radius so it would be impossible to get one on the ice at Coastal Highway, for example. I'd be nice to have an option to fight back against the bear, but it should be a risk. If you fight against a bear, it will only anger the bear more to the point where it will fight you until your dead, unless you fight hard enough to scare it. I don't think you'd be able to fight against the moose though.
  9. Just... don't walk on them. Or, walk on the steel and not the wood. IRL you could sprain your ankle walking on those rails while carrying 30 kg of gear if you slip.
  10. I never knew that Wolf's Jaw Overlook actually looks like a wolf
  11. That's a lot of materials. A tent doesn't have to be very big. You could make a 2 person tent with no more than 4 deerskins. Maple saplings aren't very plentiful either. Crafting time of 30 hours sounds fine, but the amount of resources it takes doesn't seem worth it. It would be hard to carry around if it was 10 kg, too. If the tent would be a last resort survival tool when your lost or bad weather is coming, you wouldn't want a big tent; a smaller tent would be warmer and easier set-up. If the tent were used as a base in areas without shelter, it would cost a lot of resources to keep it in good condition. If you leave it in a region for a week, you'd come back to it to see it's at 16%. It's a great idea, but it would be hard to craft and maintain, as well as transport.
  12. Great story! This has inspired me to take my Interloper run into Blackrock
  13. I think bears have "personalities" like wolves, where some are more skittish and others more bold. Some wolves will run away when spotting you, some will stalk you. Some bears will charge if shot and some will not. It also depends on your location and if they can reach you or not. I've been in reach of a bear before, shot a bear, and the bear fled. So it just depends. Sometimes they flee, sometimes they don't. Also, they might still charge even if you shoot them from really far away, as I have experienced: KJ5 (17)_Trim.mp4
  14. A screenshot that I took by accident but ended up being a really cool screenshot (this is an older build, I don't remember which though. I think Silent Hunter)
  15. Update: Found out that it indeed IS possible to craft a bow on the Hunted part 1. You can still find saplings washed up shore on coastal regions. Crumbling Highway is the best place to look since the bear doesn't spawn there. I have confirmed that you can find both maple and birch saplings from beach combing. You can get guts from deer carcasses and or rabbits. There is always a hammer in Hybernia, so you can forge arrow heads. It's not easy but it's possible. It would probably be worth more to simply use the arrows to hunt animals instead of anger the Old Bear, but it'd still be fun to give him some payback. Please don't remove this feature Hinterland. Keep it for those of us who survive long enough to even craft a bow on the Hunted.
  16. I tried predux a couple months ago and it worked, but I changed the build to another version (I don't remember which) and could not move. I changed back to Wintermute launch and that was frozen too, even though I had just been able to play it just fine.
  17. I've been having trouble with the time capsule recently. The most recent build works perfectly fine, but if I try a previous version, I can't move. I start a new run every time and I cannot press any buttons once the game starts. I can't move, I can't open the menu with Esc, I can't open my inventory; I have to force stop the game. This happens in both challenges and survival mode. The versions I've tried and could not move on: Penitent Scholar Vigilant Trespass Resolute Outfitter Faithful Cartographer Wintermute 1.0 Launch Vigilant Flame The only versions that work for me are the Early Access Launch, Silent Hunter, Deep Forest, Tireless Menace, and of course, the current build. Anybody have this problem? I've tweaked almost every setting in options and nothing works. Is this something worthy of being sent to support? I don't want to bother them since they're not supported, unless this is a Time Capsule problem.
  18. I just tried a custom run with all of those settings to the max, and while the wildlife sees you from significantly farther away, you still have to get fairly close to them before they start stalking you. I guess what I am aiming for is a setting where you are basically always stinky with 3 scent bars. Whenever you step outside, most wildlife will immediately start walking in your direction. I guess the reason I suggest this is because the scent range can only go so far, even if the range is pretty far with all detection settings cranked up. Now that I think of it, I'm going to try that out sometime. Always carry several 0.1 kg meat portions so that I am always at 3 scent bars.
  19. Hey, I figured this idea would not fit well with the game, so I'm suggesting it as a mod instead. I know nothing about modding, but for anyone who likes the idea and wants to make a mod of it, here it is: You are always being stalked by predators. Anytime you step outside, all animals immediately start stalking you (or at least start walking in your direction.) All animals that are in the render distance, at least. So basically increase the detection range of all predators to basically infinite. For moose it would be different though since moose don't stalk you. Maybe don't change anything about the moose, just wolf and bear.
  20. I like these. A bird that can be hunted is a really good idea!
  21. As I play, I've wondered how many minor mechanics have been implemented into the game that you barely notice, but make the game more realistic. I have a few questions on these: Does running increase Hypothermia risk? Does the percentage increase faster when you run while freezing? Where's the best area to shoot when hunting? I've noticed that headshots are usually what immediately kills an animal. But that's not necessarily realistic for some animals with tough skulls. When hunting a bear or moose, is it more effective to go for the heart or the head? Is there only a small area on the head that actually does critical damage? Does the game even consider the heart as a one-shot kill? That's all for now, but if you know of any minor mechanics that make the game more realistic let me know.
  22. - Hunting Traps. You can place them in the snow or under a bush and then come back a day or several days later. They can catch basically any animal. Just randomly thought of this and figured that it would be cool. Stepping on a trap will set it off on you. - A new Custom Mode Setting: The Old Bear. Turning this on will spawn the Old Bear in your world; you'll have to survive with him forever. Guns and bows should still be allowed but they don't hurt him; they will only scare him away. - Add the Old Bear's cave in Survival mode, and add a possible bear spawn in there. That would be fun. Just a few random ideas I thought of.
  23. If you aim any weapon at the bear, he will charge you. Also, if he has already stood up and roared once, he might not do it again next time. Those are a couple observations that I have made in my time of playing this challenge. The first time he approaches though, I've never had a time where he didn't stand up (unless I aimed at him). Any other encounters he doesn't always roar. I think it won't work if you shoot too late and he's too close to you. It also won't always work if the flare goes above him. Shoot at his feet to be safe. If you shot him early and he still didn't flee then I don't know what happened. I guess maybe you got unlucky.
  24. In my opinion, the only way the bear spear would work and keep the game balanced would be health and clothing damage during a fight. In episode 2, your clothes do take a hard hit during all of those fights. However, you don't take much health loss unless you don't fight him off quickly. On Stalker and Interloper, using the bear spear on a bear should be risky. The forging times you present of over 20 hours seems like too much in my opinion. While it may be realistic to take incredibly long, it would simply be too frustrating in-game and resource consuming -- more than what it's worth. Game mechanics might get a little messy when it comes to wolves though. In episode 2, the spear scared all wolves away. This is too op for it to simply act as a wolf force field. I think that in order to stab a charging wolf with the spear, you would have to time it just right. Too late = wolf struggle. Too early = the wolf backs away or circles around you, but doesn't run off. In an actual struggle though, I would think that the spear is too heavy and too large to fight back with. I don't think it should be an option to use during struggles. It shouldn't work against moose; with a charging moose, it could easily knock it away the spear and take you down. My personal opinions on the subject. I was really hoping for a spear this last update. Maybe we'll get it one of these days... I do hope the devs add it eventually. Have they said anything about it in any other dev diaries or updates, other than what they said in the December update several years ago?
