    Quiz

Timberwolf Mountain Summit (Unless you're playing The Hunted lol. Found that out the hard way...)
  2. (Sorry if somebody else has already said this but...) Use rocks to maneuver around wolves. Throwing a rock will distract wolves. The wolf (or wolves) will start walking towards wherever the rock landed, so you can lure them another direction in order to get around them without being noticed. Don't land the rock in between you and the wolf! This will lead the wolf towards you. Throw the rock where you want the wolf to go.
  3. Ok thanks, I don't think I've ever checked behind the house. I'll see if its there.
  4. Where are possible spawns for the key to the farmhouse in Mountain Town? I've found it in the truck and in the barn in a corpse, but nowhere else. I have 2 runs right now where the key did not spawn in either one of those locations. The first run is a voyager, the second is the As the Dead Sleep challenge. Is there a possibility that the key won't spawn? Does it not spawn on higher difficulties like As the Dead Sleep?
  5. Is there anyway to view your best time on a challenge without having to beat it all over again? I take screenshots of them, but sometimes I forget to take a screenshot and don't remember my best time.
  6. If you know what you are doing, HRV is actually incredibly easy. Maybe a bit too easy. Everywhere you look there are resources you can use. Tons of sticks, mushrooms and rose hips everywhere, tons of cattails... and just about every container has something inside (but there aren't very many containers). As long as you can get some matches, you can live in HRV for a really long time. Forlorn Muskeg was the one map when I first started playing (before HRV was added) where I would spawn and be like "Ok no, I'm not doing this." I'd usually just start another run and hope for a different spawn. Now, my only problem with that place is the weather. Getting stuck in a blizzard in that place is terrible (unless you are on the train tracks). You can avoid the wolves there pretty easily as well, since you can see them long before you get to them most of the time. Lots of cattails there. Favorite region is probably good old Mystery Lake. It's warm, not too many buildings, but still really easy. It's where I take my Interloper runs usually. I used to like CH until my best Interloper ended there to a wolf... I sat there shocked for so long.
  7. Just wanted to add this as well; I wanted to know if the Old Bear would run over the fire if I placed one in between him and me. My last try, he simply ran around. This time, I got different results lol. I was surprised that it allowed me to throw the flare; I literally could not do anything else (except for pressing esc, of course). Eventually, the screen simply went black and teleported me to the cave. The Long Dark 2021-09-09 17-31-32_Trim.mp4
  8. I simply used the revolver. Used only 8 shots. I killed 2 wolves and the morale at the bottom was still around 80% lol. There were so many wolves. The battle lasted a solid 2 minutes.
  9. I decided to make a run on The Hunted part 1 and see how long I can survive without entering Trapper's Cabin. It's actually quite easy because of the plentiful loot. About 10 days in, I wondered if there was any counter play on my part against the Old Bear. Shooting him with the flare gun is not enough for me. I began to wonder if I could craft a bow to shoot him with just for fun. I figure that if I can make a bow, it won't kill him, but it would still be fun to shoot him with it. I'd also use it for hunting wolves and deer. The question is: is is possible to make a bow? Sub question: can you find a Heavy Hammer? I went to Desolation Point, hoping for a heavy hammer in the whaling facility. I got one and forged lots of arrow heads in the Riken. Next question: Saplings? I realized that making a bow takes more than just arrow heads. I noticed that I had never encountered any saplings of any kind the entire run. Is it possible to find saplings anywhere in the world? Can I get some washed up from the ocean? I can recall finding a cured maple sapling in a container somewhere on one of my runs, but I don't remember where. It might have been Pleasant Valley. Can I get one from that same place on The Hunted? I've searched DP and found no bow. Right now, I'm at the TM summit getting those extra flare shells. I'll need a quick decision of where to go next to search for saplings, because I just found out that the bear can spawn on the summit, even though it's impossible for animals to get there lol. He can even spawn on the little area where the summit rope begins! One plus to being in TM though is that once you get somewhere the bear can't, your safe from the bear until you pass time/sleep/enter an interior (he will then respawn somewhere; most likely close by where he can once again reach you). Hopefully he can't enter the plane... Anyways, does anybody know if it is possible to craft a bow?
  10. I think there were even more than that. The visibility was too low and they kept running back and forth, so I couldn't tell. I made it to signal hill before that flare ran out, so I survived. However, I saved the game and then went back out to fight them all. I killed 4 of them and was down to about 20%, but I survived. I reloaded the save to see how quickly they could kill me. I ran out there and was literally dead in a little over 5 seconds. That was really fun playing around with.
  11. Just use a flare if your not rescuing survivors. On the quest to reach signal hill, I booked it through the blizzard and just used 2 flares. They won't attack you if your holding a flare (unless you get close to them). This is on hardened survivor, btw. There were literally 5 packs of wolves that I ran into while getting to signal hill. Some of them left over time, but I had 10 wolves at most trailing behind me most of the trip. I couldn't even hear the blizzard over all of the barks and growls LOL.
  12. Apparently I did not find that note for the bunkers; I'm pretty sure I even walked by that area by the bridge. I'd assume that they wouldn't appear until you find the note, though. Just finished Episode 3, thanks for the comments everyone! I'm officially anxious for episode 4
  13. Well I guess I did not find any information to bunkers anywhere; there are several undone missions, but I haven't had any show up from walking around and picking up stuff. I ended up finding enough oil at the tiny, burned down building below the plane crash
  14. Oh, you can find bunkers in Wintermute?
  15. I'm on the Coming Storm mission, where I need to rescue every survivor and gather supplies for the Community Hall. All I need now is 1 kL of lamp oil... and I've searched nearly every single location I can think of. The only place I have not checked is the broken houses down the road, north of Thomson's Crossing. I highly doubt I'm going to find a jerry can sitting there for me. Anywhere I can check for oil? Do I need to go all the way back to near the crash site and check prepper's abandoned cache? In the meantime, I'm going to craft some lines and fish at pensive pond... I'll need 10 bass of a good size to get a kL of lamp oil
  16. So, I was messing around with the Old Bear in Forlorn Muskeg. I had the mission of retrieving the radio parts from each of the 3 towers. I was told that at each tower, you faced the Old Bear. I came to the first tower (South East, I believe) and grabbed the radio parts. The Old Bear didn't show up immediately, so I decided to hop down the cliff and completely avoid him altogether. It worked. Second tower (North), he spawned right away, so I could not avoid him. I fought him twice with the spear, grabbed the radio parts, and jumped down the cliff again before he could reach me. Third tower (South West I think. The south one closer to Broken Railroad), he spawned right away again. I kept my distance and shot him with the rifle. He charged, so I fought him with the spear. I grabbed the radio parts and once again, jumped down the cliff, but stopped at a ledge where I could still see the bear above me. He was looking down at me but could not reach me. I shot him about 5, 6, maybe 7 times with the rifle, and then shot him with the flare gun. I stood there for about 5 minutes until I heard him die... I went back of there and sure enough, there was his carcass laying right there. I collected an ear and harvested his hide XD. Of course, he still dragged me into his cave when I tried to leave Forlorn Muskeg, but I thought it was funny that I was able to kill him before the cave. I'm assuming that this is a bug?
  17. I've played The Long Dark back in 2018, but never knew there was a Forums for it. Just joined a couple days ago. So hi
