  1. After playing a little too late into the night I had an idea! Does anyone else think that food items should freeze when left outside? Like, in real life if you wanted to preserve your food, you'd want to place it outside to save it's condition, which would cause it to freeze. And before you cook it, you'd need it to defrost it! I feel like this would add an extra bit of challenge and realism by forcing players using this setting to wait an extra bit of time to cook their food, while also adding an extra bit of balance to the game by putting a respectable penalty for plopping everything outside. A small thing, but it could have a nice impact on the game!
  2. Acting like a estate agent/realtor sell and describe your favroite survival location or building explaining the good reasons and why its the place to live and survive
  3. This is a small cosmetical change, that will nonetheless make ammunition crafting much more immersive. It simply changes the looks of Ammunition bench. First of all - I was never a big fan of ammo crafting, but I have to admit, I was wrong. Its pretty well done and actually makes a game better in my opinion! Now, to make it better. Right now, the biggest immersion breaker with ammo crafting is that it requires no primers. This can very easily be fixed by updating the ammunition bench with some boxes that will have a name of a primer-making company. I am all for a "Bullseye" primers box logo, and put 2-3 big boxes of it on the empty shelves of the Ammunition bench, or maybe two small boxes on the table and one big below the table. If the ammunition bench has overwhelming surplus of primers, there really is no need for it to be included in the crafting recipe. Any comments and support for this idea would be greatly appreciated.
  4. When I launch TLD, I get to the warning screen like usual. After I click the screen or press a key, the screen goes black for about 2 seconds, then loads the main menu screen. As in, everything in the background is moving. I hear music, see the school I think it is that is in Mountain Town, either it's a wolf walking around or some birds flying. Everything is there on the screen, besides my ability to do anything. Game doesn't freeze, mouse moves around. It's basically a cool screen saver at the moment. Anyone else run into this? Anyone know what to even do? Tried reinstalling, didn't work.
  5. It seems that if I die now in a sandbox game (interloper, wolf got me) the game leaves me only with a black screen after characters death, so you can't choose anything with your mouse and also the game achievements/info are not listen in the "scoreboard" section. This problem has occured only after Darkwalker event started. Anyone else having the same issue?
  6. So you've made it to the Summit of TWM, after gorging yourself on peanut butter and looting every inch of the plane, the question remains: now what? I'm asking myself this question for the first time on a sub 80 day run, on voyageur. There's literally piles of high quality gear waiting to be ferried off the summit. So far, I've made one trip down the mountain cliff to the mountaineers hut, but still have (I estimate) 2 more loads trips to make. My ultimate goal is take all of my looted goodies off TWM, out of PV , through the Cinder Hills mine, and eventually retire at CH. I'd like to use this post to start some discussion on a couple of topics: 1) what is your preferred method of getting all your loot immediately off TWM? &; 2) What's your short, medium, and long term goals/ destination for you and the loot you chose to take?
  7. Hi everybody 😃 Before anything, I wanted to say I don't want to see livestock in game like right now ! But, I wanted to create a topic about it so, I can now more about livestock breeds (cattle, Sheep and etc. )that could withstands the harsh environment of the long dark 😄 So, if anyone knows about the cattle breed that would withstand the environment, please share it ☺️ I myself think the Galloway bread would be a good pick for cattle. It will withstand environment. I don't know about sheep breed though. And some questions ! What region do you think would be good for it in the future ? How do you think it should be added ? How the mechanism for interaction with it should be? Should their be able to breed ? Should we have their milk? Or have them for their meat? 😋 Do you think it is necessary ? So, again I am talking about future. I myself don't think we have a chance to see them in near future but i like the idea of having them in the game. 😊And it would be awesome if we could pat our baby cattle 😍😊
  8. So, How about instead of " all the houses door in TLD are open " we could have some random house with locked door. ( Like the ones in story mood.) And instead of trying to find a key, A new item would be added. Lockpick : Works like prybar but it is more common ( Like two or three per region. ) And it is skill based (e.g. level 1 : you have no special skill. Chances of opening lock : 40% . level 5: you are the master of lockpicking Chance of success 100% ) And If you failed, you'll break your lockpick So, What do you guys think? ☺️
  9. I've never had this many injuries and survived. This has to be the most intense experience I've had. I'm trying to complete faitful cartographer and am halfway done, so dying is not an option. In broken railroad, I was in the process of moving all my stuff from the maintenance shed to the hunting lodge. I only had a couple of stuff left so I was travelling light... Too light. I had forgot to bring enough first aid. My fatigue meter was empty, but I was almost there so I pushed forward. I rounded a corner and got attacked by a wolf. "No problem" I thought and fought him off with the axe. Once the struggle was over I heard the growling of a second wolf. I pulled out my revolver and spun around, but it was too late. He jumped me and in my panic I chose the revolver as a struggle weapon (with only level 2 skill). Since my fatigue meter was drained, I couldn't fill the bar no matter how fast I tapped. After what felt like forever I managed to win the struggle, but my condition took a huge hit. I was down to about 15%. I was bleeding and knew I had to patch myself up, but... You guessed it, there was a third wolf. In my two previous struggles I had broken both of my wrists, so I couldn't equip the revolver. I didn't have a flair or torch, and I was fatigued so I couldn't run either. The door to the shed was too far away for me to get there in time. In a last desperate attempt to buy myself some time, I started a fire. No accelerant (travelling light), but my fire starting skill was good and I had a 90% success chance. I held my breath as I waited for the fire to start, and then... It failed. F*ck. The wolf jumped me and this time I had the brains to pick the axe as a struggle weapon. But my condition was dropping too fast and I lost the struggle. Somehow I didn't die. I woke up with less than 5% condition. At this point I didn't care to look if there was another wolf nearby, I just pushed forward towards the door. I got in and saw that I was bleeding from 2 different places. "I got this" I thought, but then I opened my bag and saw that I only had one bandage. I admit, I was very upset at this point and rage quit the game. After some deep breaths and the realization that I would lose all of my progress if I died, I booted up the game again, ready to face the impossible. Once I got back into the game I started from inside the maintenance shed with only 4% condition. I quickly applied the one bandage I had, but I was stumbling all over the place. I couldn't control where I was going and I was bleeding out, FAST. Suddenly I remembered I had an emergency stim on me so I used it and it restored my fatigue and condition enough for me to actually control my character. I knew the bonus was only temporary, but this was miles better than before. I needed a bandage ASAP, but... You guessed it, I didn't have cloth on me either. I checked my clothes and saw that my wool toque was ruined, so I harvested it for one cloth and crafted my bandage. By the time I applied it my emerency stim had run out. I clicked the bed as fast as I could and slept for 2 hours. I woke up and I was still alive! With my condition slightly better (but still under 10%), I drank and ate, before jumping back into bed and sleeping for another 6 hours. As you might have realized by this point, I was severely underprepared so obviously I didn't have antiseptic on me either. My condition was improving, but I was scared that I would die if I got an infection. Infection risk was at 85% and it was the middle of the night, but I had to risk it. I had stashed some stuff in a cave nearby and I was hoping and praying that I left some antiseptic or old man's beard lichen there. I took a torch from a camp fire I made and headed out. On my way out I saw the corpse of one of the wolves that attacked me. It made me smile. One wolf was still alive (probably the one I fought with the revolver), but even though he was barking and growling, he didn't dare to come near me and my torch. As I made my way towards the cave, I heard the roar of a bear. It was too dark for me to see where he was exactly, but by listening to where the roars came from I managed to avoid him even though I never saw him. Finally some luck. I got to the cave and found the antiseptic. I started a big fire and drank some herbal tea that I had left in the cave. Then I slept for another 6 hours and woke up to a new day. I survived. Moral of the story, bring at least 2 bandages and ALWAYS carry an emergency stim with you.
  10. Stalker I've got this challenge When you start a new game, your first priorities are not freezing to death, not being killed by the wildlife, and not starving or dying of thirst. As you progress in the game, you find or craft warmer cloths, so freezing to death becomes less likely. Once you get a rifle or bow and began to gain skill, your odds of being killed by wildlife decrease. You also build up a reservoir of food and water to sustain yourself. These trends continue until you can finally say to yourself "I've got this now". You've got about the best clothes, in terms of warmth and protection, available in the game. You've gained enough skill with your weapon of choice that you sometimes go out looking for wolves to kill, just to improve your skill further--or just because they are so spiteful. And you have all the tools available. At this point you're done with the goals that were essential in the beginning. Now you either quite and start a new game or come up with a new goal--like finding all the cairns (if you find that sort of thing rewarding). So, the challenge is how long does it take to get to the I've got this point? Rules: 1> You must play Standard Stalker mode (you may use up to three feats). 2> You must be at 'Skilled" (level 3) or higher in at least three skills, one of which must be in your weapon of choice (rifle or bow). 3> Your weapon of choice must have a condition of 70% or higher. 4> You must have either 30 or more cartridges or 6 or more arrows. If arrows, they must all have a condition of 70% or higher. 5> You must have at least 7500 units of food available and five liters of water. (For reference: one cat tail stalk is 150 food units). 6> You must have clothes with a total bonus (warmth + wind) of 38 or greater. They must have a total protection bonus of at least 36. All clothes must have a condition of 70% or greater. 7> You must have at least six bandages, six antibiotics, ten painkillers, one emergency stim, and either 0.4 liters of antiseptic or 4 old man's beard dressings. 8> You must have at least 40 matches or a fire striker with a condition of 80% or greater. You must have a magnifying glass. Lastly, you must have fuel for at least eight hours of fire (wood or coal). 9> You must have all "tools" in the game, except the can opener, flare gun, and simple tools which are optional. All the tools must have a condition of 70% or greater. These include: a bedroll (standard or bear skin), flare, hacksaw, hatchet, heavy hammer, knife, prybar, quality tools, sewing kit, storm lantern (with at least 0.7 liters of fuel, in the lantern or available), and a whetstone. Typically, as you near the I've got this point, you will substantially exceed most of these criteria. However, you may still be missing one thing. I recently played a game (with this challenge in mind) where I had clothes with a combined warmth + wind bonus of 42 and a protection of 50%. I had reached level 5 with a bow, etc., etc. etc.. However, I had not found a magnifying glass. As I had already checked all the places I knew often had one, there was no guarantee I would ever find one. So I quit and started a new game. So one facet of this challenge is you must have become completely ready for the world of the Long Dark.
  11. So since its around Halloween I thought we could see what is the most agonizing death on great bear that you could suffer? Mine would either be being burned or freezing to death and I hope I can see more of your gruesome answers!
  12. hello, i have a small (?) issue with surveying/mapping in survival (custom difficulty), some weird behaviour. doesnt happen always, but quite often and once it happens, cannot be undone no matter what i tried. when i first survey an area, reveal resources and area, all is well. but after collecting the resources and re-survey (to remove them from map to limit the clutter and to make it look pretty), more often than not they stay there, or even, previous ones appear that arent there anymore. like, i collect reishi-shrooms around an area, they arent on the map, even when i survey. some time later i re-survey to try to remove a sapling i already collected nearby, and suddenly those shrooms pop up on the map, and wont disappear. happens with other stuff (branches, liches...) too... anyone can offer suggestion for help or fix in this issue? (for resources that arent there anymore to reappear on the map). thanks
  13. I kinda feel bad for taking Jeremiah's rifle in Episode 2. I didn't play before Redux, but I know that you got your own rifle from the hunting cabin in broken railroad along with the bear spear. It kinda saddens me that (Spoilers for the ending of Episode 2!) Matthias, a criminal, gets hold of a rifle and Jeremiah doesn't have one. I wish they kept the part where you get your own rifle so Jeremiah gets to keep his rifle.
  14. Thoughts on the idea of bathing in the game? So I was thinking your survivor would get very dirty, grimey and stinky traversing the cold apocalypse and this got me thinking. You should have the option to bathe. But this could have some attributes to make it work. Over time your player should develop a scent (same way as if your carrying food) which attracts wildlife. A hygiene metre could help you keep track of this. If your hygiene reaches too low not only could you attract more wildlife but your are more susceptible to diseases when cut or bitten etc. To avoid this, you should be able to bathe in a house. A small bathtub (portable) could be added which you fill using your watersupply. A fire would be needed to heat the water ofcourse. This could also give way to add more plants in the game which could act as a cleansing mechanic when bathing. The option to clean your clothes could be with this idea too. Thoughts?
  15. I've been thinking about this a lot and was just wondering if anyone else feels like the devs should add in some kind of multiplayer to the game I don't know I just feel like it would spice it up
  16. I noticed that crows, when seen above bodies, not only do their spiral of carion consuming, but they do so perpetually. They do not go down to pick at the flesh, nor do they go away, or leave those they might annoy. (I have not tried shooting at them.) It may be difficult to animate in relation to the game's engine, but truthfully I have no idea. If they can be actual animals, that would be splendid.
  17. - Scientific research of air pressure, radiation, snow fall/precipitation via either hand/made or gathered devices, and their user learned from books. - Placeable/moveable furniture for those who live in one place, or (may use as a laboratory. I.e. Lighthouse, desolation point.) - Creating iceholes with either a drill or hatchet in ice. Ice fishing with tip-ups (ice fishing decides that are set out on a hole, and have a flag that "tips up" when a fish is caught on the line.) - More books, many bookish players exist - all in all, for this one, add generally more "useless" objects to the game that may have an actual hidden use.
  18. Hi everybody ! First of all I am back 😄 It's always good to be back And I kinda miss being in forum actually. 😄 So, Hope you guys doing great despite pandemic. Stay safe ☺️ And sorry for bad English by the way 😟 As for topic, I somehow think Items condition can play a major part in gameplay. I'll give you an example. So, What if Storm lantern condition was related to its fuel consumption! Just think about it. I think it would be great if storm lantern with for example 20% condition used more fuel and would extinguish rapidly unlike a 80% condition one. It would force player to keep it in the best shape possible by repairing it frequently . And, it was just one item. Just image How great could it be if it was applied on all the items in the game ! e.g. There would be a chance that medicine with very low condition e.g. 20% and below won't be effective ! There would be a chance that pieces of clothe you harvest from curtains and pillow and etc. won't be at 100% condition thus it will effect how much that you could repair your clothes. There would be a chance that you find " half burnt" woods ! e.g. you found a 40% cedar wood near a campfire ! it would keep your fire going by 40% * 1hour = 24 minutes ! And many more Examples ! So, What do you say? 😄
  19. This is so upsetting. I finally get to good condition 6 days into survival and between loading from the cave to the winding river I find my game has completely reset!! All the items in my bag, things collected at the dam, my improved health, map surveyed and days logged - gone! Yet I'm still in the same location. My character is wearing different clothes too. How can everything just reset between location loads? I never even logged out of the game and I didn't die. I loved the campaign. Now i'm a bit hesitant about survival if my stuff can disappear so suddenly.
  20. Hey all, decided to update my old map. Planning on adding Ash Canyon and whatever comes next in the future. Looking for feedback right now, let me know things to improve upon, inconsistencies, or glaring issues. Thanks.
  21. I think a medical skill would be a great addition to the game, as treating wounds and illnesses is a key part of survival in the wild, yet its not a skill on the list, perks such as only needing 1 painkiller to treat injury's instead of 2. (useful especially on modes like Stalker and Interloper where your resources come down to every little thing.) Does Anyone else think this should be one of the listed skills?
  22. Heya everyone! After receiving a bunch of encouragement from The Long Dark’s subreddit, I’m going to start work on a fanfic series: Aurora Infernum. This story will focus on the effects of the Geomagnetic Storm on the rest of the world, where the main characters have to survive the Quiet Apocalypse as its effects bring society to its knees. Survival will be a key focus, but this time nature isn’t your only enemy. I’ll be posting links to the chapters here as I write them. Feel free to ask me questions about what I intend the story to include. I hope y’all will enjoy reading this as much as I’ll enjoy writing it!
  23. After playing the game a lot after the first beta launch i have just started getting back into it. It really is a great game and having a lot of fun but there is one thing that is really annoying and gets on my nerves and that is the constant howling from wolves. It really breaks the immersion because real wolves do not howl every few seconds for hours upon hours. I’ve read that this is how it’s supposed to be and before it was thought to be too infrequent but honestly it feels like it should be the opposite. Like i said real wolves don’t howl nearly this often to the point where this just feels like a sound bug. Im guessing they activate it by proximity or something and maybe I’m just in an area where there are wolves absolutely everywhere (im playing story in Milton at the mo). Still super annoying though. Anyone else think it’s a little excessive?

  25. I have been playing The long dark for a while and wanted to get it for my laptop. I got it on the microsoft store because i already owned it. Anyway once i started it up i nticed this wierd green and purple pixel haze around certain objects, most notably on things like telepohone wires or car tires or any other sharp edges. i assume this is an anti aliasing issue since no other games i have on this laptop have this problem so i know its not graphics card related. if you have any experience with this or any help to offer please help.
