  1. I agree, the lighting in some caves is bloody weird. Not so much that it gets darker as you go further in, that makes sense. But you're right it doesn't make sense that it looks light from the outside but then isn't when you go in. In that example it should look fairly dark from the outside too. Plus there are those caves you can walk through without a torch yet others you can't see the end of your nose let alone where you're going. I can understand it when there are some external openings where a little light comes through. However for one completely subterranean cave to be light enough to walk through without a torch when another is pitch black is rather inconsistent. I think the lighting from indoor fires is probably quite accurate. In deep dark night with a closed in stove or equivalent the light would only radiate from those small squares. A fire barrel would possibly give off a little more because of the wide top opening with just a grill over it, but without the flames being open to the air they still wouldn't radiate much more light than the stoves. Any container like structure will naturally prevent light escaping to varying degrees.
  2. I really hope so. For you to need a lamp or torch inside at noon when it is a bright sunny day outside drives me nuts. And some indoor places are much worse than others. I hadn't really noticed an issue with the light from fires indoors though, maybe its because these are in covered facilities like the stove that they wouldn't emit much light anyway ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ That's how I explained it to myself, right or wrong! I can't say I've paid attention in caves, but then again I am not known for being observant. Is the emitted light less than you would expect from an open fire?
  3. @Zaknafein Zak, thank you for this video. As always you explain things in a clear, concise and thoughtful manner. There is one area I'm now even more concerned about after seeing some of the information, but I'm not opening that can of worms again. You've certainly clarified a few things for me, those that can be clarified at this stage anyway. I'm grateful to you for all your hard work and continued links with us here at the Forum. Happy Hunting.
  4. Hmm. I'm a printmaker, screen printing would be an ideal medium for the posters. A possible fan art project methinks ๐Ÿค”
  5. New trees is pretty awesome. I'm a Brit and Oaks are beloved here so I'm delighted to see them. Something majestic about them. As long as they don't try and tell me acorn coffee is a good alternative then I'm looking forward to seeing what they're used for.
  6. I'm also an old fart but I guess I don't have "the gift", I still haven't heard any ghostly voices or creepy stuff that others have ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Maybe I'm just not very observant (actually that is very true!). Mind you I'm not complaining, bears are scary enough, I don't need any added horror! ๐Ÿ˜ณ
  7. You know we'll be here. For you, I hope you get the chance for some down time ๐Ÿงก
  8. Different strokes for different folks. I really like the idea of quietly fading into The Long Dark by the fire at Trapper's knowing how well I'd done surviving that long. Peaceful and satisfying. For me at least. Of course I don't usually get that far. Mr Bear often decides he wants my rabbit hat and mitts too much and puts an end to it!
  9. A loot goblin treasure hunt using clues from the visors? Now *that* would be cool! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ˜
  10. Thank you Hozz, I couldn't put my finger on exactly why it didn't quite sit well with me. This is exactly it . However if there was the option to turn it on and off that would be fine. Then the folks who would enjoy it could partake and the rest of us fade away as we are left with just our reishi tea...
  11. One could argue Pinnacle Peaches are more on theme with a sunrise. The colour palette is compatible and flavour profile would work well with orange, grenadine and curaรงao *quietly swaps dog food for peaches under the table* ๐Ÿ˜‡
  12. Beautiful shot Jeff. And you had me until the dog food. May I request Pinnacle Peaches from the Bartender instead?
  13. Hmm. I hadn't even considered being able to have a chosen "ending" to a run. It would certainly change the dynamics and psychology of how you approach, well, everything. It would probably encourage a more nomadic existence for most of the run as you aren't intending to ever come back. Even in those of us (me) whose nature is to be a home bird with a snuggly cave to retreat to. I don't think I could play that way all the time, I'm not built like that, but it would definitely be interesting to try it when all that's left is to sit by the fire and Fade Into The Long Dark.
  14. I'm rather excited about this I must admit. Its why I simply can't get on with Loper, I like the excitement of loot or information or just plain "stuff". I only learned the last couple of months that the visors do pull down anyway, so I'm going to have to remember to do it. I might just write a massive note "VISORS" and stick it to the TV. That's my usual unsubtle approach to reminding myself about things ๐Ÿ˜ It'll be like a birthday treasure hunt every time you get in a car. Bloody marvellous. It really is having little things to do, and finding excitement and pleasure in them, that prevents extreme boredom.
  15. Welcome back! And you're just I'm time to see everything change. Take a look at the Oct Dev Diary/Tales From the Far Territory. Any saves you make between now and the new game won't be compatible, so best not to get too attached to a new run. Have fun reacquainting yourself ๐Ÿ˜Š
  16. I forgot about this! I was too preoccupied with being able to make a safehouse my own. To be honest I didn't even know you *could* pull down the visors til recently. Still learning after 8 years! More things to rummage about in and find stuff? Yes please ๐Ÿ˜ @Leeanda please remind me when the time comes! You know how much like swiss cheese my memory is ๐Ÿ™„
  17. Lol I love it! Just for goodness sake don't have a fire anywhere near that lot, you'll light up Great Bear in it's entirety! ๐Ÿ˜„
  18. Always love a cattail. I hope you're enjoying your art class, love the fact you're drawing TLD stuff ๐Ÿ‘
  19. There you go, that's one way you haven't killed her yet! OK, as I need to start again... let's see if I can die from dysentery ๐Ÿ˜ Oh yes... fires and bloody cables... That is a possibility, although burns are fairly rare, and bandages work on them. More likely some new nasty condition they've come up with ๐Ÿ˜ณ Or as part of complex cooking as already mentioned.
  20. Sprains and cabin fever = most ridiculous and annoying features. Hence I always play custom. But yes Leeanda, I like your thinking! Conan, may you sprain both ankles and wrists on flat ground while being pursued by a wolf, and have no bandages to hand
  21. The dysentery that virtually nobody ever gets?
  22. Well coffee does that to me already so I'll be avoiding burdock bread!
  23. May you plummet through the ice then be greeted by a hungry bear... May you desperately climb a rope to escape a wolf but be so tired you fall to his waiting jaws... May you be a complete idiot like Socks and think sparking cables only get you at the ends... ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜
  24. I think this is beautiful James. After a long, stressful and turbulent life it is a peaceful end, should we all be as fortunate to fade so gently into The Long Dark. Your Astrid definitely deserves that. Made me rather emotional ๐Ÿงก
  25. @hozz1235 Props for an excellent thread and poll! ๐Ÿ‘
