  1. You're not the only one.... why didn't I think of that! 🤦‍♀️ Mind you there are other custom settings I don't want to let go of, I can live without a couple of feats I won't use. Hopefully this will make it better for you though. Thanks @Hawk!
  2. Thanks @Digitalzombie. I don't have the fox, but I appreciate the info about the mod should I ever install it. My set up, apart from the PC itself is very basic. Other than the mouse there isn't anything to interfere with it. No other controllers, no tablets or other competing gizmos either. Apart from my phone. Which I'd turned off on one occasion when the problems were particularly bad. Didn't work. My issues seem to have weirdly settled the last few days, but a new keyboard will be arriving tomorrow just in case. Even though I haven't been able to reproduce the issue outside TLD, who knows 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for your help as always DZ.
  3. @APixelatedLemon Fabulous, thanks mate. I'll make sure I check him out 🙂
  4. There is nothing I can add that says it better than you James. Hinterland, Raph... they are running a HUGE risk of losing the very people who have supported them from the start.
  5. A call out for some TLD YouTuber recommendations. I have LMG and Rand Al Thor, but would welcome more. Thanks in advance fellow TLD addicts 😊 PS YouTubers... some strange new form of vegetable?
  6. Loper?!!! Well, if you don't make the week you will know you deserve a spell in the naughty corner 😁 In my experience my best starts often lead me into disaster, May The Force Be With You, sir
  7. Great post @Glflegolas! Hmm... I will have to ponder this as I wander round, instant information recall is not my strong point. However one is shouting very loudly at me. Pleasant Valley Bear cave on the river, near to the Winding River/ML entrance "DEVIL BEAR CAVE" I hate that bear. More than any other. Really really really hate it .... 🤨
  8. Matt I wish you well! Personally I hated HRV so much you wouldn't be able to get me to play it on any difficulty, ever. It made me even more claustrophobic and panicky than Ash Canyon; I don't do well in places that I can't readily find a way out of. However, as with everything, it is a matter of personal preference. I hope you have fun exploring and learn the map enough to expand your future runs. I shall watch with interest and keep everything crossed for you 🍀🤞
  9. Awwh thanks Conan! 💙❤️💚💜🧡 I certainly went into enough detail *blush* Although it may be a case of the blind leading the blind were someone to use it for assistance 😳😄
  10. Oh I do love a good spreadsheet!! 😁 Not sure they will find their way into my TLD world but I certainly understand why people would want to use them.
  11. I do understand what you mean about the loneliness, and it makes sense to me having the company of another voice to journey with you. And indeed to swear like a sailor at! Makes a change from swearing at oneself 😁
  12. On this I do have regrets, that my choice to shut up the incessant complaining prevents me getting the feats. Still, it gives me the excuse to have a super easy Pilgrim run every now and then and grind hard on the relevant feats. I've now got the ones I want and the silence is all mine 😊
  13. I'd be interested in knowing how others like to play their game. I always used to play my games with the monologue on. That was before I paid proper attention to each and every custom setting. Now, I'm the person who (when I could still drive) literally threw her satnav out the window 😁 I got so sick of being told what to do. I don't want to turn right here, it's a dead end! Anyway. I had been getting increasingly frustrated listening to Astrid complaining. Yes you can carry more, stop whinging. Yes I know you're cold. I can see you're thirsty, I'm working on it! I suddenly realised the monologue was causing a disconnect and breaking my immersion. In many games I've become and inhabited the character so their monologue made sense. I realised I play TLD as *me*. So I turned the monologue off and it has vastly improved my enjoyment of the game. Now I truly inhabit Great Bear as me. This is obviously my own personal preference and reasoning. I'd love to hear how others see it and play it.
  14. I don't *think* you can Javi, would be rather nifty if we could though. Don't quote me on it however, I could well be wrong. Hopefully someone with a more technical understanding will be able to offer you a more definitive answer.
  15. What can I say? I turn into a mad Spaniel when excited or enthusiastic 🤷‍♀️😁 Sir, I will be your Support Stalwart. I started gaming in the early 80s and have been passionate about it ever since. Sure there have been other games which have commanded my absolute attention but when everything is taken into account, I honestly can't think of a game which tops TLD. From wandering in a stunning landscape, lost for words at its beauty. To the next moment having your heart in your mouth because you hadn't been paying attention and walk into a wolf, bear or moose. To when you are paying attention, and have vast experience, yet still deathly peril is only one small mistake away. To being able to live another life, relying solely on your own company and capacity. To being able to create your own custom experience based on your preferences. Sure there are frustrations and some things I would really like to see changed, but nothing is ever perfect. They don't matter in the grand scheme. When you are having a bad day and the game throws something at you like a drunk mortar bear which literally still makes you laugh the next day? I know of no other game which offers or has offered so much. I could wax lyrical for hours. My short and enthusiastic sentence says it all! 😁
  16. Stop it! I still can't stop laughing at your comment on the screenshot thread 😄 My face hurts! This has been making me giggle non stop. I think he needed a drink, I was cooking his own meat in front of him, left on the ground before I got to 5 cooking the last time I killed him. It was dark, I was crouched and I shot him in the face. I guess it was all too much 😁 I bloody LOVE THIS GAME!
  17. Well you didn't specify exactly the required projectile, so I... improvised 😁😄 Never cross an old lady gamer right 😉
  18. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can't express in words how much this is truly making me belly laugh, cry and snort all at the same time. I think this takes the prize for My Most Hilarious TLD Moment Since 2016! The Lake Bear in ML. I was so grumpy because I did everything I was supposed to, one shot while crouched then slept in the fishing hut. The log said he had died in the morning. I could not find his body, I couldn't hear any birds. I almost gave it up as a glitch and then I found... *bursts out laughing hysterically again* 🤣.... I FOUND THIS!!!
  19. @jeffpeng 🤣🤣🤣🤣 🤣🤣🤣🤣 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh you have to see this!!! I'll post it in screenshots too but it absolutely belongs in this thread. There is a reason for the emoji spam... I don't have the words to express how much I am still laughing. It has been a long time since I truly, with absolute gusto burst out laughing, a proper belly laugh with snorts and tears and totally unladylike behaviour. But this did it... From all the serious and technical conversations about bears bleeding out, to the glitches, to the excellent advice on how to approach killing them without dying yourself. Then your really funny admission of a hairy moment with the Ash bear. TO THIS...
  20. There's actually a lot of those humorous touches in the game... like these "feet" sticking out of the snow like somebody is lying in there (also in Ash Canyon). I stood there and laughed when I came across this one 😄 Gotta love a bit of random silliness!
  21. Thanks Lamp. I've only got the basic mods installed - the ones which make all the others work plus Placing Anywhere, Remove Clutter, Item Piles and Candles. Would something appear out of the blue like this with a mod that has been working fine? When no updates have taken place or new mods installed? (Forgive my likely "stupid question".... I know nothing about coding, modding or any of that side of things)
  22. *chuckles and sniggers* Oh you've made my day! 😁 Isn't it always the way? You spend time giving "pro advice" on something then end making a complete hash of things. The Ash bear is a tricky one though. It's really difficult to take on or get away from if things aren't exactly right. I think the fact that you can have all the hours in the world in TLD but still have this ultimate vulnerability is one of the major strengths of the game. One of the reasons I do and would keep coming back to it where others lose their appeal. Fallout for example. I also have a deep affection for the game but (other major issues aside, Bethesda) there comes a point you are so OP there is pretty much nothing that can ruin your day, even boss Deathclaws. In TLD you don't need a boss Deathclaw. All you need is a Bear. (after you've given advice on how to tackle them 😄).
  23. Thanks for replying Jeff. Any suggestions are welcome! Lol yes, I am running Windows. I actually don't play any other games; due to a physical disability I can no longer play the vast majority of ones that interest me. I tested it on various things like Word, browser, windows explorer and everything was fine. However, if it happens again, I will open another game that I can sort of play and see if the issue is there too. I run all my games through Steam. I will also give your suggestion of unplugging the keyboard and plugging it in again before a hard reboot. I have had this keyboard a long time and never had any problems with it, but to make sure I've ordered a spare one to try as well. I will report back Sir! Let's hope its not straight away but we'll see what mood the tech gremlins are in. I honestly haven't fed them after midnight.
  24. As a person in real life I am absolutely not greedy or opportunist. I am quiet, unassuming and do not enjoy confrontation. In games I often take on a role opposite to who I am. So I am learning that instead of running in like a Valkyrie I will be something else I am not in real life... Patient! This is really excellent advice. And gratifying because I am already learning to do most of these things. I actually liked sitting on top of Rope Bear's cave in PV with my firewood and waiting for him to amble up and shoot him, knowing exactly which way I would run if the weather turned fast (it was PV after all). Just to clarify, I didn't engage Unnamed Bear on Frozen Creek. He literally was on me before I even had chance to hear the roar. I only had time to pull my rifle and get one quick shot off. And usually my Bear Fever is when I am freezing to death and desperately need the coat or bedroll. I'd much rather not engage them anymore knowing that it is not a move to be made if one wishes to have a long run! It was mainly my technique that failed me rather than going Kamikaze. Learning their patterns I find quite difficult but I know the dens well. Some I avoid because I can't work out a safe spot to take pot shots at them from. I'm fortunate that across the map there are enough Bear spawns that I can at least get enough for the coat and an extra pelt for remaking. I've also learned that getting a couple of good shots in while they don't see you crouched, retreating to a safe outdoor space and waiting for them to bleed out is the best approach. I struggled with Ash Bear because of the way it was all set up, I couldn't see how to do it stealthily. Next time, if I do have to dive into the cabin, I'll come straight back out... crouched
