  1. I imagine "ruined" meat is just moldy and/or filled with bugs that a Level 5 chef can get rid of, since it shouldn't rot in such cold temperatures... but a ruined potato turns into a foul-smelling mush from the inside out... quite inedible I would imagine .
  2. Indeed . Although I haven't quite gotten up the nerve to try raw meat yet... TLD has taught me too much .
  3. The sizzle of cooking meat... it always makes me hungry šŸ˜‹.
  4. If you goat down to the Derailment from the Lookout, you should be able to find it easily enough .
  5. I do... they are much more efficient than a lantern using an equivalent amount of fuel and are very cheap. Sometimes I'm just in a hurry and can't be bothered to stop, light a fire, and then pull a dozen 20% torches when I can just craft three or four 100%-ers before heading out that will usually get me wherever I'm going without having to stop and light a new one. It might not be more efficient in game-time, but it is in real-time .
  6. Just make sure to unload it first .
  7. From a realism standpoint, I agree. A crafted torch is... well, crafted. It's supposed to do what it does. A torch that you pull from the fire is just a burning piece of wood without cloth or oil. As @xanna mentioned, crafted torches already have a large burn-time advantage, and if you're going to differentiate crafted and pulled torches any further, it might just be simpler to bring back the brands.
  8. Rose hip tea is pretty good. I've had tea with Reishi in it but I've never had actual Reishi tea per se. I would definitely eat just about all the recipes, except maybe porridge... that's a no-no in my book! And I would LOVE to try rabbit and bear meat šŸ˜‹.
  9. This is going to be the last update for a while because my PC decided to die shortly after these days were played... Ash 4 / Day 14 I awake in the late afternoon and cabin fever is averted. Every day, in every way, Iā€™m getting better and better! The weather is a light fog that is a bit chilly for my purposes. Nonetheless, I heat up a cup of tea and get going. Of course I have to sneak past the bear, but other than that, the trek back to the mine is very long and boring. The only noteworthy events are finding some more rose hips and spraining my wrist on the goat down to the mine. I gather coal on my way to the main chamber and pass time repairing clothes and boiling water well into the night. I treat myself with a can of tomato soup and pork and beans for supper. Ash 4 / Day 15 A blizzard rages throughout the morning. When it finally calms down to clear skies and mild FLT in the late afternoon, Iā€™m eager to get going and try to find that bunkerā€¦ ā€¦ I donā€™t find it. I end up spending the entire day walkingā€¦ and wakingā€¦ and walking through the birch forest and gathering birch bark and sticks. I have to make some tea on the way to avoid freezing but otherwise the trip is uneventful besides finding us harvested rose hips. That makes me hopeful, that means I havenā€™t been here yet. About 30 minutes into the hike, things get a bit hairy when I take quite a bit of damage on a goat, but fortunately I make it the rest of the way down safely and discover that Iā€™m back by Anglerā€™s. Sigh. Iā€™ve been going in circles. I duck into the cabin to shake off a wolf that picked up my trail and make 8 cups of BBT whilst crafting some fishing tackle to replace my nearly-worn out sewing kit. Supply stocks are lookinā€™ good. Iā€™ve got plenty of food and oodles of fuel. Water supplies are a bit short at the moment but Iā€™ve got more back up at Foremanā€™s. Ash 4 / Day 16 I spend the day doubled over in bed with pain as a result of eating ruined bannock.
  10. It is a bit annoying to strike a match willy-nilly from a misclick, but on the flip side, I've gotten in several nasty maulings while trying to brute-force my way through the "light torch" match selection when I have both kinds in my inventory... I do think it would be fine to add as an accessibility option, though.
  11. Day 18 of my one-region loper run in AC, views like this make everything worth it. Foggy pics againā€¦ just loooove that fogā€¦ I call this one ā€œVoidā€:
  12. Agreed for the most part, although I would prefer if a tiny exception was made for harvesting down from ptarmigans.
  13. This isnā€™t quite on topic, butā€¦ Feathers are plucked by hand in real life, and by hand is the best way to do it in TLD. Which begs the questionā€¦ why do we need a tool to harvest ptarmigans so we can harvest weathers by hand?
  14. Stuffed animals maybe? With matching plush knives to fight back with šŸ˜.
  15. I found him onceā€¦ he was deadā€¦ but it wasnā€™t my fault šŸ˜.
  16. Microharvesting is also sometimes called ā€œshreddingā€, Iā€™ve seen it in a few places.
  17. Ah yes, I love me some syurp on my pnacakes . But yeah, as @FlamingFuball said, I donā€™t think thatā€™s a very feasible ideaā€¦
  18. Ash 4 / Day 11 I goat down to Bitter Marsh and gather cattails on the way back to Anglerā€™s Den. Once there, I use the memento key from Minerā€™s Folly to unlock the memento cache in the rowboat. Itā€™s full of fish. Fish that I spend the rest of the day cooking while grinding Firestarting. Ash 4 / Day 12 Another uneventful day. I ferry stuff from Anglerā€™s to Homesteaderā€™s in preparation for the next big climb and spend FIVE pieces of cloth to repair my lousy sports vest for a gain of 0.3C. Ash 4 / Day 13 A blizzard in the morning (actually more like early afternoon) throws a wrench in my plans. I huddle inside, munch cattails, and read a Sewing Primerā€¦ and then, cabin fever risk strikes. Not surprising, actually. Iā€™m forced to huddle in the bed until the blizzard dies down before I can go anywhere. I take a bunch of food, water, and fuel, and make the long and uneventful trek to Minerā€™s Folly, where I know a perfect spot to build a snow shelterā€¦ and I canā€™t build a snow shelter indoors. Rrrrgh. I then head around Foremanā€™s to a fairly decent spot to build a shelter and light a fire, cooking bannock and grinding to Firestarting level 4. Apparently this is ā€œindoorsā€ as well despite being little more than a glorified rock arch, but there is a moss bed to sleep cabin fever off in. I use all my fuel to sleep through the night without hazard. Heres some screenies of the sunset:
  19. Hmā€¦ TLD is the only context where Iā€™ve seen it referred to as a prybarā€¦ Iā€™ve called it a crowbar ever since I started playing Half Life when I was 7 or so .
  20. A few of my ownā€¦ Sardines: Food poisoning BBT: Birch bark tea Shrooms: Reishi Mushrooms Hips: Rose Hips Wolves: Salesmen Prybar: Crowbar
  21. @Ibblazein Greetings from a fellow Dixielander !
  22. That could be workā€¦ maybe a temporary warmth bonus that you pay for with your clothes gradually becoming wet from sweat?
  23. Sometimes I get a little bit annoyed if it was a good run but other than that I donā€™t really let it get to meā€¦ each and every death has a lesson to teach us. I suppose my attitude is because most of my runs are supposed to be ā€œshort and sweetā€, I donā€™t really go for long-term survival that oftenā€¦
  24. Iā€™m from the Deep South in the US. Itā€™s a lousy place if Iā€™m going to be honest, entirely too hot and humid for a snowbird like me .
