  1. I've noticed that a few times and thought I was crazy .
  2. Considering that we already can see the temperature from our "Status" tab, I don't really think this would be a good addition... and with how cold it is, it'd probably be broken anyway .
  3. If Hinterland is confident enough to set a definite date (give or take a week) after Raph always saying that he doesn't like to do that, then they probably have everything ready and just need to put the Dev Diary together...
  4. @Lunerse Greetings from the land of Dixie!
  5. I remember watching one of @Zaknafein's videos a while back - I think it was his older "Road to 500 days" series - and he was dropping stones as sort of a "wolf barrier". I can't find the video now but I'm curious, does this actually work?
  6. I agree that "shredding" meat is a bit shady but it's a valid strategy, as others have pointed out. Like all strategies, however, it does have its drawbacks... time firstly! I personally don't have the patience to "shred" anything larger than a rabbit, let alone for all the clicking involved to eat all of those little morsels . Also, "a piece of meat is a piece of meat" works both ways; predators are just as attracted to 0.1 kilo of meat as to a whole kilo. However, I feel that lighting single-stick fires isn't scummy. You're still lighting a fire, after all! Admittedly, the same time drawback goes for this as well but it's worth it... In the end, though, it's up to individual preference... if you don't like being able to do something that doesn't feel "right" to you, then you certainly don't have to do it! Likewise, if you like to do it, then by all means feel free to do so!
  7. Possible (assuming you have something to contain the gas) but not advisable unless you have a gas mask... chlorine isn't exactly something you want to breathe .
  8. Fair point... maybe you could make some kind of poison / animal repellent, sort of like a crude bear spray?
  9. I can picture Will hiding "under the covers" of the bedroll as a wolf approaches and it's hilarious .
  10. Gunpowder is first to mind... maybe also stump remover or other chemicals?
  11. Just that one time I heard a little girl giggling and humming in there .
  12. How Hinterland thought we would react: *intense fear/terror/speculation* How we are reacting: K I T T Y 😁
  13. I wouldn't really describe KCD as similar to TLD but it's a good game nonetheless .
  14. Killing every wolf on the island... with nothing but a knife and some bandages 😁.
  15. Ah, I see that in your profile picture now... I thought it was cooked moose meat or something .
  16. Vincent 13 / Day 4 / The Great Escape I wake up very late in the afternoon; it's almost sunset. Temperatures are warm and the sky is clear... Pleasant Valley is actually being pleasant! It's time to book it out of here, I may not get another chance like this for days. It takes a while to walk to the mine and the sun has already started to set when I get there. I'm saving my energy because every drop of it counts; I want to push as far as I can. I have a cup of coffee on me but I'm not going to use it just yet. The walk through the mine is productive; I find some good loot including another stim - and of course over 40 pieces of coal, just in case. I trim my pack a bit and head out into CH. Visibility is good but the sky is nearly Darkwalker-green. I am easily able to find my way to the Lookout tower, where I deploy the rope I find there and climb down to the twin cabins. I find some goodies including a wool toque! Niiiice. My clothes are now +10C, state of the badass art considering it's only Day 4! I decide that now is the time to drink my cup of coffee. Using the boost of energy I get, I loot the entire Coastal Townsite (finding a second pack of matches, nice) and spend the rest of the evening cooking more porridge to feed my tapeworm.
  17. Going from 136 calories to 2100 just on porridge, a granola bar, a carrot, and a pack of chips isn't easy . Especially taking into account cooking time... And good to see ya again .
  18. I can think of a few right off the bat... 1) Right beside the open train car at Poacher's Camp. You can stay warm from the fire barrel if you have coal, but the big drawback is that the bear likes to roam around there... 2) Exiting the Hat Creek - Marsh Ridge cave, go right a ways and you'll find a spot that's sheltered on three sides. Unless the wind blows straight into the opening you should be good. 3) At the bottom of the rope climb from Marsh Ridge and to the right is another decent spot... I think it might be a bear cave, though,
  19. Vincent 13 / Day 3 / The Hungry Caterpillar Turns out I did NOT find a hacksaw yesterday... just a pair of work boots, which is still nice. I awake to a raging blizzard in the early afternoon. Of course. Rrrrgh. I double-check the barn for anything I may have missed, and sure enough, I find a hammer and a flare gun! It's empty, but I'll take it... shells can spawn in random places, ya never know. The blizzard rages for hours. In between repairing my boots and napping in the truck, I eat all my food except for a 20% can of dog food that I'm not touching without meds. Finally the blizzard lets up and yields to a toasty +0C FLT. I take the opportunity, to hoof it to Thompson's Crossing. I arrive with less than 200 calories in my belly, so I make a beeline to the Community Hall and ransack the kitchen. I find matches, which is nice, but like the caterpillar, I am still very hungry. I end up ransacking the rest of the town to satisfy my vacuum-cleaner stomach before lighting a fire behind the convenience store and cooking porridge until late at night. After 6 bowls of porridge, I'm still not full. I must have a tapeworm.
  20. Technically this should go in Misc Topics but no-one ever goes there . If this looks familiar, it is, there's an archived thread like this and it seems like a good way to pass time while waiting for the next Dev Diary. I was wondering what stories are behind our choices of usernames and/or profile pictures... I'll start: mine is pretty simple. Just Conan, which is my name, and jaguar, which has been my favorite big cat since I was about five years old, and has been my email address for as long as I've had email, which is why it's lowercase . I've used it as my handle for just about everything because I'm sentimental like that.
  21. @KingFuzz You can also pull off this trick with a lantern if you're really desperate. According to the wiki it gives a +3C warmth bonus.
  22. Not specifically for ZoC, but with a bit of practice you can light a fire just about anywhere if you can find a sheltered spot. Trees, rocks, and cliffs will do quite nicely; just pour on the fuel and pray the wind doesn't shift!
  23. I agree with @UTC-10 and @Looper: if there's going to be anything like a nightclub, Perseverance Mills would be the place for it. Milton might have had a bar at one point but it probably burned down with most of the other buildings; all that booze is very flammable .
