  1. Remote in the sense that if you like to bring your endgame loot stash to CH you either have to drag it across a region with raving blizzards that some choose to avoid altogether. Or through a region where you're forced to trip across a kaput railroad bridge, an obstacle being uncalled-for at best, where you risk everything to reach a perfectly fine but not unusually rewarding region.
  2. I would hope for the so far inaccessible train tunnel in Coastal Highway to lead us to Blackrock. It would make Coastal Highway more interesting as an endgame region for sure. While ML is already the lead hub of Great Bear, neighboring 4 regions (but what about FM? Well, it's a marsh). If they add a 5th port to ML being the only connecting region to Blackrock that should increase the appeal to survival players using ML as their main base region. The classic CH fishing camps would become even more remote than they already are.
  3. I currently use moose cloak and bear coat because of warmth and protection. It's heavy but I like to remain well fed. With those and the rest of the clothing mother nature provides us it has turned out to be pretty safe to get mauled by a bear if you're at decent health to begin with. If I maintain my clothing above 70% condition they usually don't get destroyed by the bear, otherwise the rabbit mittens and hat might. I don't have crampons equipped at the moment even though I probably should as I play somewhat offensively. Guess I'm a little in love with my yellow ear wool wraps.
  4. Really like this idea! It's a bit of an issue when you miss your target, go to pick up the arrow and even though you know where it landed the grass makes it impossible to find. And it seems reasonable that we get a better chance to incidentaly locate the arrows from runaway animals whose tracks bug out. I also like the idea of combining items and especially making use of items that are otherwise useless to some players. This solution would be a great incitament to empty the 295 billion spray cans in my storage.
  5. Seems like you're making a rather black-and-white distinction. When a certain comment doesn't appeal to me it probably has a subjective value to someone else. Experienced or not, active posters may contribute with spirit and keeping the forum vital.
  6. Great to hear it! Looking forward to playing episode 4 this fall and even more the new survival map. Gotta say I have high hopes for the new TLD songs and the possibly new intro theme music for Fury, then silence.
  7. Would be kind of cool if they could measure our degree of intoxication from how we handle the controller/mouse and award us with a suitable drunkness affliction. Until there's a case where the presumed constant intoxication is in fact a gamer suffering from Parkinson's disease...
  8. Exploring Bleak Inlet without the timberwolves seem to me like a blessing from the sky, enjoy 😊
  9. In my early TLD days I would have enjoyed a solution like this immensely. Nowadays I take some pride in setting up campfires where they are mostly or fully wind-shielded by terrain. What this suggestion means is that you'd be able to sleep outside, anywhere on Great Bear, as long as you had your windshield and fuel. It would probably be fun for a bit but also suck the challenge out of the game :) But I can't rule an implementation like this out either. Since Hinterland proceed to make the game easier in many aspects, with rope climbing, birch bark, spray cans for navigation etc. Meanwhile they choose to keep hilarious deathtraps around, such as the inescapable CH mine electrocution pits, the Ravine bridge and off-grid exploring. Rant said, with windproof campfires implemented, players would probably start dragging windshields to any base of their liking to sleep outside and avoid cabin fever forever. Result, the game gets a lot easier. So while I acknowledge the desire for windproof campfires I would personally enjoy the game less with them. That said, I think it's an unusual and creative idea, it's just not to my liking :)
  10. That's really weird, you shouldn't be able to explore CH. Makes me wonder if future story content has slipped through or if it's just a bug. Have you noticed anything different with the Wintermute CH map compared to the survival map? Like a building, a bridge or a giant killer whale? =) From your screenshot of the fishing camp it looks just like the sandbox version.
  11. Are you saying you got to explore CH in Witnermute episode 3? The episode ends with the whale cutscene so if you were able to do anything further in CH after that, it is very odd. We don't know yet whether CH is part of episode 4. If you're out of the mine, then you have already finished episode 3.
  12. While I enjoy your perceptive description of a healthy relationship it makes me curious how you look upon the Dev/Player relationship as a romantic bond. When you involve a money transaction to get access to someone's body of work it is a relationship alright, though rarely the romantic kind.
  13. I don't think you can sue Hinterland but you can keep drinking if you like. The only problem with combining The Long Dark and alcohol is that my survivor will tirelessly tumble off the broken rail bridge by the Ravine to meet his maker. Kinda takes the fun out of whiskey.
  14. That's exactly my point, it makes total sense to get to craft as many fishing tackles as you like, I'm starting to wonder if there's something we've overlooked... So it seems to be less of an issue to you as you don't craft that many fishing tackles at once. I prefer to craft 6 at a time, using 2 scrap metals and 3 guts. It's a clickfeast as @odizzido suggests above. Indeed, and a great reason to start bunkering guts early on in your playthrough.
  15. I'm also in an endgame, working to stay engaged. Your carcass collecting inspired me to a new challenge: kill 10 bears while revisiting some areas you haven't been to for a while. First to go down was the bear by the fishing cabins in ML, I got him close to a cabin for an easier, not so windswept, harvest. Second victim was the bear sniffing out PV farmstead. Lured him to the front porch and headshot him, which made for another easy harvest. Go indoors, chop down furni. Go outdoors, chop up furri. And the third to meet his maker was a fella in TWM. Facing the lake by our beloved hut I followed the river left uphill til I found a buggy creature. He took an arrow to his back and ran away with neither footprints nor bloodtrace. After two days of searching for his carcass I gave up. Too bad, it was my favorite arrow Next up was the bear at MT bridge, which has to be the easiet bearkill in TLD, always slowpoking by the predator-safe vehicles. And that's where I am now. 4 down, 6 to go and still enjoying myself. I'm off to HRV next to finish off both bears and live the caveman dream til their hides are cured. I'll finish the challenge with a fast extermination of the tree muskebears in CH and the lonely Pooh in DP. That should leave enough hides to last me through the long relentless winter.
  16. I suggest we get the option to craft as many fishing tackles as we like in one go. Instead of the current method where we craft 1, return to the menu, craft 1, return to the menu etc. Should be relatively easy programming-wise and would make for more comfortable gameplay.
  17. Beautiful beautiful killstreak indeed, well done!
  18. I too would appreciate more frequent development updates and news here on the forum. That said, we do have some agency don't we, it can be okay to have to look elsewhere for updates if the updates don't land in your lap. If the mountain won't come to MacKenzie, then MacKenzie must go to the mountain.
  19. Way to go! Your time is worth more than playing Groundhog day mode for another 100 days. A few suggestions below to keep you entertained: Harvest your favorite piece of clothing Only sleep outdoors Go bowhunting for moose Take appropriate precaution, then eat raw meat Repair all gear and tools to 100% Craft 50 arrows and all hide/guts gear Find a new campfire spot where the fire can't be put out by wind/blizzard, build a snow shelter and live there for 10 days. Level up your remaining skills (if any left, perhaps fishing or archery in your case?) Kill 10-15 wolves in one ingame day
  20. Speaking of revival, stupid is a strong word but the least intriguing serious proposal as of yet has to be making permadeath optional in survival mode. Though that's just my subjective opinion, but then of course I don't order eggs and bacon without bacon. I also don't buy boxing gloves to go fishing. Or go to Spain to see the Eiffel Tower. Or use a jetpack to climb Mt Everest. Or try and stay the same by remodeling my DNA sequence. But that's just me.
  21. That's a solid strategy and works well with stalker and interloper too, since you can craft as many knives and axes as you like. Other tools such as hammer and hacksaws don't last for a region each but close to. There are some 7-8 of each at least in interloper. Anywho, we are very likely to get to keep our whetstones (though removing them would certainly solve the problem I described in the original post ;)) but hopefully they develop the mechanic to become smoother. I would argue that it's less of a nuisance to sharpen your tool in one go than polish it for a few minutes, getting stuck and repeating. Just imagine if the fishing mechanic was divided into forced 15 minute chunks. Immersive much?
  22. Indeed, the Cannery is some 5½ regions away from Ash Canyon. Without whetstones we'd not only become Bleak Inlet commuters en masse but we would have to carry sets of knives and axes with us on long excursions. E.g. travelling to TWM summit, AC gold mine, BR etc. With 3 knives and 3 axes in our backpack we'd be easily overencumbered.
  23. Whetstones presumably have a short life because in The Long Dark realism is sometimes triumphed by maintaining difficulty through a healthy balance between cost and reward.
