  1. Take a look around the forum, there are always ongoing topics discussing creative ways to make endgame purposeful.
  2. You will find a stim at TWM summit as well, inside the plane.
  3. Tough question, lots of interesting answers. I'd go for another type of granola bar that has more sunflower seeds than the old one. Either that or Klingon subtitles.
  4. Agree, it's a welcome addition to our arsenal indeed Glad I brought all the cans back to mainbase in a current playthrough. My guess is as good as yours but it seems probable they'll be introducing it in survival, it shouldn't be unique to the Wintermute saga like the bearspear. My only wish is that they don't bring the noisemakers to interloper difficulty. It would disrupt the balance severely. At least if you can scare wolves, bears and timberwolves like in Fury, then silence. Have yet to try it on the moose though. Anyone?
  5. Good idea, you can actually just drop it and pick it up instantly, if it's indoor it will have cured 1%.
  6. Thanks for clarifying, you make a fair point. Quite a few people seem to do it. I probably wouldn't enjoy that, I like the unpredictableness, but yeah you do have a hunch about the looting table in the back of your head after many playthroughs even if you haven't tried to remember zip, it's like a sixth sense or something. Knowing your looting table likely make your life easier in drunkenloper (whoever coined the term, thank you, you are a legend) but even then there are plenty of other obstacles you have to master to endure. A hammer in your inventory may make you happy but it doesn't make you a long term dopelope.
  7. @Phillips The death you describe, 600 days in on interloper, so close to completing Cartographer, must have been so disappointing. Seems like you did what you could to survive. Suppose there wasn't a stim handy either? I wouldn't bother about the journal, it seems to somehow self-delete over time anyhow hehe 😊What have you been up to since then, is there a new run going already? Are you going to go for Faithful again? ... How about this topic stays on track? If you don't want a cat to bite, withdraw attention when it does.
  8. Nice! I only used one tunnel (skipped the side quests) so I'm looking forward to find out about the others when they release Blackrock for survival Same here, I look forward to using them but I also really, really hope they don't introduce them in interloper. Today the lopers have 12 lifelines (flare shells) that will scare off the wolf, bear and moose. With noise makers they'd go from 12 lifelines to I don't know, 100? Or however many you could make from the avabilable gunpowder. Could very well destroy the balance in interloper if introduced, in my opinion. Yeah it would been great to play at least a little as Astrid. I thought they would let us play her through Coastal Highway and give us an improved CH. However I'm glad we got to play a whole new map instead, and like you and others said before, can't wait to play this beautiful map in sandbox!
  9. I think you have a fair point about the lost urgency of reaching PM, episode 4 is a little enclosed in its own narrative. But perhaps that was necessary so that we could finally get a good villain with a human face. You gotta spend time with the devil in order to 1) really feel what's a stake 2) develop negative emotions towards him to drive you forward. Could they have reminded us of the main goal and Astrid more? Sure, they probably should've. But the suitcase certainly reminded me, getting my head bashed in every now and then. Loved the soundtrack too
  10. Utterly curious how this topic hasn't been shut down yet.
  11. Perhaps it's time to lock this thread @Admin? Regardless of who's right or wrong, 10 vs 1 always has a bad aftertaste. We are not timberwolves.
  12. Always nice to find undiscovered TLD content :) what was your impression of wintermute theme hearing it for the first time?
  13. Yes emergency stims cannot be overrated. They save my guy MacKenzie's life at some point in every long playthrough. Always carrying a couple is a life insurance. I have some differing opinions from the poster above, though keep in mind we may argue from different standpoints. These are my thoughts based on effectiveness and survival from a purely functional point of view: If you're playing a difficulty where you're allowed to use guns, don't worry about crafting wildlife clothing. The game will grant you very decent clothing anyway. I also wouldn't harvest everything, on stalker probably just a few guts for fishing lines every now and then when I'm far from predators and at decent health. If you're planning on using a revolver on a charging bear you may just waste your run. If you use a revolver on a bear from a spot where she can't reach you, you will be wasting time and ammunition. @Catlover How's your stalker endeavour coming along? :)
  14. I highly doubt that knowledge of hydraulics is a reliable predictor of intelligence. I don't recall seeing it in any of the standardized tests that scientists use to measure intelligence. However, the Stanford-Binet intelligence test does have a factor called fluid reasoning, perhaps that is the hydraulics part you're refering to. I like the tests that include social intelligence anyway.
  15. What difficulty did you play?
  16. @Ian086 I'll clarify, I used to hear the intro theme for the other episodes but ep 4 theme won't play on my console. Found it here though: New Main Menu Music, Fury, Then Silence(The Long Dark) - YouTube Returning to your original question I rank the themes as follows. Keep in mind that the theme being in question when you start your TLD adventure seem to become the favorite to many, it's all very subjective. 1. Wintermute. Masterful composition. I wonder if I'll ever get weary listening to it (or talking about it 😉). There's something about the interplay between the plucked strings and mellow piano that summons a certain mood. The tune truly captures the soul of TLD in a way. The calm atmospheric beginnings, the beauty of your surroundings, the crisp cold, and then the sudden panic at a predator encounter or a blizzard and your fighting for your life. Then the calm after the storm. If the TLD movie becomes reality this truly deserves to be the main theme. While obviously not as expensive, the Wintermute theme is right up there with excellent movie theme songs like Time from Inception or the Interstellar main theme. I'll heartily fight anyone who disagrees 😉. 2. Fury, then silence. Dramatic from the start. I thought it was a good choice to flirt a little with the horror genre to return TLD to its barren origins. Piano and strings switched parts this time around. You get the feeling that the piano had been glancing jealously on the strings for years and finally got the free reins it deserved to go fullblown classical. 3. Crossroads elegy. A likeable tune no doubt. The least melodic of the three and too jolly to me personally to feel like TLD. Still very beautiful when the strings act as locomotive around 0:50, I feel somehow like they're dragging the piano along like Astrid carries her survivors to safety.
  17. Are you guys hearing intro music at startup? Feel free to share, I'm hearing zip since download. Or rather, I hear atmosphere only and figured it was a deliberate choice by HL. Music is set to 100%.
  18. @MrWolf Yeah I figured the bear was scripted. Not sure I would have had enough reaction time to throw a noisemaker on him even if I had it equipped in my hand. Someone should walk up there aiming a flare gun. @yoli It's a 6-10 hour long episode if I'm not wrong. Anyway I hope they will be proud that so many players found their new creation so exciting they wouldn't stop playing til the finish line.
  19. You're right. This is how pressure works. Ylvis - Pressure [Official music video HD] - YouTube Always turn to Norway for your clues on science.
  20. Spoilers . . . Finished episode 4 just a minute ago, I feel blessed right now. It seems clear that Hinterland endeavoured to give us as much TLD DNA as they could possibly put in one episode. It's like a "best of" track and this TLD nerd is thrilled. The map +++++ How about a little bit of Hushed River Valley, a piece of Ash Canyon, another Mountaineer's hut with a moose as neighbor and another power plant? How about a huge semi-maze-like prison structure at the center of the map, making Mystery Lake Dam the little brother of main bases? This survival map will be something extra, I hope they make plenty of entrances to the prison from different directions in sandbox and somewhat close connections to adjacent regions. Fast forward December please. The antagonist/story ++++ You can always trust a good old psychopath antagonist to deliver can't you? I really don't think so. With Mathis however, the dialogue and the voice acting was high quality in my opinion. And it was perfectly clear what was at stake. The impending threat of Donner getting out,. "Mister" Mackenzie getting the case back. The conflict between Jace and the inmates. All very well balanced. While I found some of the dialogues in chapter 1 a bit long and repetitive, that improved within the next chapters. Episode 4 was also well connected to the other episodes. I'm really glad Mathis will stick around to unleash holy hell on us in episode 5. The songs ++++ The reverbed guitar versions of old theme songs was what really lowered me down into the nostalgia tank. There can never be enough Wintermute theme. Can we have more please? And also... ... the steam pipe puzzle was surprisingly intriguing, way to go. ... the fact that you didn't always have to take the same route back to the prison was a major plus. ... that bear in chapter 3 really mauled me by surprise. ... I thought Jace was Molly the whole time, was it just me? What were your impressions?
  21. I just caught a glimpse of the long awaited TLD/Red Alert 2 addition pack. It seems so enchanting it deserves a poem: Chrono wolf chronoed in, Chrono wolf took a bite, Chrono wolf chronoed out, Never trust a fence no doubt. TheLongDark_20211006102131.mp4
  22. Way to go! You beat your previous record and became more skillful on the way, that is all that counts I'm not entirely sure what advice to give you. There are no "best" maps in my opinion. Play the maps you enjoy, pick or create a base with plenty of storage, hang around wolves to really, really learn how they move and act. I would personally avoid Trapper's on my first stalker runs because of its hilly surroundings, meaning wolftraps. Mountain town wolves were the ones that used to kill me the most on stalker. Don't drink the water.
