  1. Curator's rifle is a direct upgrade and has roughly double the range of the base rifle. Barb's rifle has (iirc) 25 more shots and the more precise sights I got this info from the wiki and their testing. But admittedly that's a bit cheaty, and your point remains true. I like the idea of the trader being available for precise analysis, and do definitely love the variants overall.

  3. I think the new variants, most prominently the rifles, need a wider range of possible spawn locations. For both gameplay balance and spice. Right now they are reliably confined to single regions and although some of these spawns are pretty creative, I feel it's not enough. Yes, rifles are fairly easy to find (little less so in the new loot table it seems) but there was always the chance you got unlucky, however with these new rifle spawns you can reliably get a superior weapon by checking just a few places in a region. As far as I know, the Curator's rifle is a direct upgrade, and while Vaughn's and Barb's have some more downsides I still think they're far superior. +.5kg for a more precise sight and extra durability? -1kg and more responsive firing for a little less durability? And I can reliably find them with just a short trip? Sign me up! I also feel by confining them to single regions they don't tell their respective stories as well. Barb was a well-weathered trucker? To me she's just the CH lady whose rifle I stole, etc. Have the entire Great Bear road system as far as FAF be potential spawns for Barb's, have every hydro dam and wood lot be one for Vaughn's, make the thief who stole the Curator's flee into ANY of the northern mountain regions, AC, TMW, BR! And I can go on. Finally, I really think the Woodwright's Bow should be repairable. Make it so when it breaks the string snaps, and force the player to wait until its fully broken before repairing it at a workbench for balance. These are just my opinions ATM, curious on all of your thoughts. Even still I really love the new item variants, especially V's rifle, even though it's a raggedy thing.

Really loved the transition and Transfer Pass was a nice stayover for a few days and I was very happy to find a bearskin bedroll in the coal... tower... thing (we don't have trains where I live), felt clever climbing in through the coal storage. Personally, though, although it was impactful in the moment, Far Range should be longer, and more treacherous. Especially since the FT seem to be the future sight of many unique goodies (hopefully). Also, TP felt kind of empty. I was super sad we couldn't go down to the basin below. Forsaken Airfield and the trek in from the mountain road (believe it's called the Old Road somewhere) was absolutely perfect. Seriously. The unique wind effects in the canyon, the score kicking in for the first time, and seeing the sheer SIZE of the map was perfect and I have no complaints. Nice long journey to the airfield. However, I felt the airfield was kind of lackluster, a few buildings and a dingy hangar, I found myself marching out into the snowfield ASAP. Absolutely love the hilltop cabins, especially the one in the mountains, but I wasn't so fond of how empty the upper hills were. The region feels massively empty, in general. I wish there was just... more. Primarily natural resources and animals, predator and prey. On a sidenote, I actually kind of like the dynamic created by the cabins being so nice but so devoid of equipment, I like the idea of having to make trips to a foreboding but well-stocked airfield to get what I need before heading back to my actually livable house ^^. Finally, although I've only experienced it once, glimmer fog was super disappointing. I don't want to whine, and again I may have just had a less-than-stellar one, but it happened midday and occurred (seemingly) as a global weather event. It was just normal grey fog with some electrostatic on the ground, and there's nowhere to hide from it short of the airfield hangar (I think). I'm not too worried, though. The overall design of the region is fantastic, and I know we're just getting started. I think my primary mistake was overprepping and overhyping myself, I started a multiple (irl) day-long pilgrimage all the way from the East of LGB in DP, moving through and gearing up in each region, getting every bit of kit and optimizing my gear until I was ready for anything, expecting some true timberwolf-soaked nightmare brutality and instead found a largely peaceful, empty place. I think I'll avoid the Far Territory (mostly) and wait for it to get some more meat on its bones.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, none of the item variants spawn in the FT. They're dotted across LGB confined to specific regions.

    Water is pretty heavy too. Could be misremembering but I think it's a direct liter - kilo weight and these would presumably be .25 liters or .25 kilos of water to carry about for soup. Also (and I'm not sure how I didn't realize this until JUST yesterday) birch bark tea is one of the few "true" renewables (as I call them, as in renewable past beach combing). That, and they have a universally helpful status effect, restoring condition. Putting ALL that aside, I'd like to finish by saying I like this idea and would be happy to see it, because I like variety! Thanks for the cool suggestions, welcome to the forums! ^^
  7. I'm going to make assumptions here but I think they mean renewable ones. Like river stones, as mentioned in the DP factory's guide to sharpening blades. I agree, we need renewable sharpening stones. Even if they were single-use or 5-time use or something minuscule I believe we should have them.

    1. I don't know if you took inspiration from "dandelion coffee", but if memory serves that actually doesn't have any caffeine. Additionally, I think coffee's rarity and the fact it is a finite "man-made" type of object is fitting for just how powerful it can be. 2.I couldn't tell you with certainty or link posts, but I'm pretty confident this is a highly requested feature. Not sure if Hinterland will add it just because of popularity, but it certainly has better chances than co-op ;} Still, though, 0% meat can be cooked and eaten somewhat safely (you can now get food poisoning from it) but if you have cooking 5 it's completely safe to eat, so it's almost/literally non-perishable. 3.We already have peaches, tomato soup, beans, etc. I think this could be cool, I'm all for variety, so simply adding new items for "variety" is good enough for me ^^ except when it's a pure evil food item like ketchup chips which hardly has any caloric value but tears your throat to shreds but I personally can't think of a scenario where you would need to warm up, but coffee and tea is not appropriate. (except WE, maybe.)

    Absolutely. Sorry if it came off as harsh, I get it's your opinion, I was just trying to give mine ^^ Anyway, you mention how "just a stick and piece of cedar would make more sense", but you also stated how it would indeed make sense for lighters to exist, but you wouldn't want it there for balance. I'm making the same case for a bow drill. Perhaps you play on interloper or other game modes and so your outlook is different from mine here. I personally think less strain when lighting a fire is made up for by the strain of hunting, chopping, curing, crafting and having it be more resource intensive as opposed to physically intensive would, in my opinion, make it more challenging to use a bow drill. That's my outlook from voyageur. I agree with your sentiment of not making things downright easier, so I think we're just at odds with what would be more challenging and balance a friction-fire better. So that's my take on it ^^
  13. This is a horror story that makes me feel lucky I have never gotten frostbite from my MANY times I've (consciously) harvested without certain articles/walked around without gloves. I do it for fashion, you see, my paper white hands look better with this coat than these blue mittens.

  15. For some reason I find myself disagreeing with the first. It's much bigger, and lets us boil more water, but I think it'd simply make loading yourself with a pile of coffee in a snap just too easy. I 100% agree with the "jitters". Good bit of challenge which will make abusing coffee still viable, but more risky instead of just an undeniably good way to get through stuff. Also, maybe the jitters could make sleeping harder? I'll explain. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a very cool detail I noticed is you character's fatigue would still drain like they were awake for 1 or 2 hours (can't remember which), and then begin filling up again. I realized that was Henry not falling asleep yet, and not a bug. That made teensy naps to infinitely stay above the "tired" status and all its drawbacks not possible. Now, I think powernapping is an essential, essential part of TLD, but having the jitters cause that, maybe 3 hours before you fall asleep and begin recovering, and having it drain you at the "passing time" rate would be good.
  16. I think you make good points, I agree. Except (I've said this once or twice) I personally feel the rifle chambering animation is fine/too fast as is. I feel it should be lengthened, and make missing shots more punishing. Realism be damned!

    But the bow drill would require more resources to make, wouldn't it? A stick and a piece of cedar is really cheap and easy to obtain, VS curing guts, maybe even using saplings, etc. and makes more sense in a survival situation (of course the saplings maybe wouldn't make sense as this is designed to be after running out of other options, and saplings aren't renewable, but still.) Besides that, I agree any sort of primitive friction fire should require a high firestarting level, maybe 4 and not 5, but either would be fine in my opinion. I personally find the merchandise point to be strange, and if it was added they probably wouldn't make it merchandise for that exact reason.
  18. All this Canada is terrifying to me. Ketchup...chips?? Anyway, I was wondering what game level this is most comparable to? Food is average, starting clothes are frostbite-proof (a very rare treat) but firestarting kit is a little lackluster. Also, wildlife? Finally, I think this should be moved to challenges after the event, it's a nice, simple game mode I think could be cool to play afterward. Cheers! Thanks for the update ^^

    They've stated the bear spear is coming to survival mode. That... uh... that was a while ago. Either way it's probably quite the task to balance it, because it's been a while :P

  21. Yes. Please thin the sights, and get rid of the forever-bullet ^^ However, I think the rifle cycling action is fine, or even too fast as is. It's been made clear they don't like using realism as a reason to demand things (sorry, you're not demanding this in this case, just the most fitting word that came to mind for how they put it) so there's that. Balance > Realism pretty much.
  22. Idk if this is really related enough, but I'm like the utter opposite. I mean, unless you consider deleting saves "suicide" but anyway, I've got two recorded deaths from the very, VERY first runs. One was pilgrim where I wanted to know if falling into ravines was instadeath, yes it was. The other was a week-in wolf attack. Ever since then I've never been in a situation that hopeless, and I tend to rough out beginnings (keep in mind I'm a voyager - custom regular so "rough beginnings" is very different to me).

    Absolutely. With how common it'd be in comparison to "Ouch! That smarts!" I honestly wouldn't want it if it wasn't toggle-able to the extent of being another slide/checkbox in the audio menu.
