  1. I usually play as Will as it's habit. The only time I ever played as Astrid was episode 3 of Wintermute. Nothing against the character or the voice actors as they both have done an amazing job providing their voices but I've never liked her voice and the way she said things. I mean Will gets on my nerves too lol but Astrid has just grated on my nerves more
  2. I always use the in-game journal to record where I've been and where I've set my stuff down. But, with me being the scatterbrained airhead that I am, I often forget to update the journal when I take stuff out of drawers then when I come back, I waste my time looking for the stuff that I've already taken. My most recent incident involves crow feathers. I wrote down that I had them in the cupboard upstairs at the camp office. Later on I was about to head to Forlorn Muskeg to make my arrows. I get everything and I look in the spot that I said I left my feathers. Not there. Look all over the camp office and can't find them. So I hike all the way to the trapper's homestead in a snowstorm making this face -__-;; a blizzard could kick up at any minute but I didn't care, I get there just before nightfall. I look all over and they aren't there either. I'm getting annoyed at this point but decided to spend the night there and walk out to the dam in the morning. I wake up right at dawn and get to the dam and the feathers aren't there either. I'm now pissed at this point and I had to shut the game off before I threw my mouse across the room. Fast forward a few in real life days later, I go back to the camp office starting to collect feathers along the way because I have no idea where my others are that I left somewhere. .. I get back and go to my food drawer, collect a few misc items and there were my crow feathers. .. I'm usually a quiet and reserved person but I had said "Son of a bitch!!" out loud. Good thing it was during the day because I would've woken the whole house up lol. So take it from me, if you use the journal then update it when you take stuff from certain places and always double check your cabinets and containers because items can be right there under your nose
  3. Man that's quite the adventure. Have you ever considered writing a book about a survivor in the apocalyptic wilderness? Because that was awesome and I'd love to read more of your experiences in-game
  4. LOL Right? I did the same exact thing and made this face -__-;; the whole way
  5. Woke up right at the beginning of dawn and I think this is now my favorite time of day after sunsets.. When it's like this and there's no bad weather that is
  6. I won't spoil it for you but it's great, one of my favorite locations in the game
  7. Call me crazy but Pleasant Valley because it's wide open and you can see for miles around.. Except when there's blizzards that is lol I'm pretty fond of Broken Railroad too because of the Hunting Lodge.
  8. I've had a couple dreams about the game as well. I don't remember most of them but there's one I do remember vividly: I was in the Forlorn Muskeg, it was at night and the weather was hazy. I was carrying the rifle and I'm not sure where in the region I was but even that creepy song that plays at night played. I heard a wolf bark and couldn't see him until he came running and jumped me and that's when I woke up. .. It was one of those dreams where you jolt up in bed and it's still night time, you're filled with a bunch of dread and can't go back to sleep (that's my case any way lol) This was the song that played
  9. Raphael, thank you so much for everything that you and the team do for us. Stay safe and God bless you all! ❤️
  10. So I just got to day 100 in my current save and I'm headed to the new region Bleak Inlet. Long story short, there's no rope leading down into the ravine, I have no idea where one is just lying around but is it possible to take a rope that's already been tied to a climbing spot?
  11. Little late but here's some pictures of my cat Charlie (God rest his soul) My favorite picture He really didn't care what you did to him (that's an empty can btw ) You can look at me like that all you want but we still have to get this done.. This was when I had to take him to the vet to get blood work done regularly because he had diabetes. Poor thing was so scared and I felt so bad.
  12. Pleasant Valley Farmstead. The place is usually crawling with wolves and you get the nice bonus of a bear that likes to patrol the area around the house. It's still one of my favorite locations in the game however as you can find some really nice stuff in the house plus it's not too far of a walk to Signal Hill Radio Tower where you can find really nice stuff as well (In one of my saves, I have found the expedition parka, rifle, a box of rifle ammunition and a couple rifle cartridges just hanging around on the floor)
  13. Nebraska born and raised. No mountains but we do have a place called the sandhills which has very pretty sunsets and a rock formation out in the panhandle called chimney rock which looks like an elk's penis 😂 and that's it, the rest is mainly farmland. The sandhills at dusk ❤️
  14. It really sucks when that happens but that really is a player mistake and not a menu fault. 🤷‍♂️
  15. An abandoned and dead world brought to life by the dance of the aurora #ScreenshotSaturday
  16. When it comes to starting a new game in The Long Dark, regardless of what level you are on. What region do you start in and what is the first thing you do when you start? For myself, I always start in Mystery Lake as that region was the first region I started in when I first started playing. As for the first thing that I do, I head towards the camp office picking up sticks along the way and harvest all the stacks of paper that I can find into tinder plugs so I'm not doing it later. I also look for the hunting rifle and ammunition as soon as possible so I have means of defending myself against hostile wildlife.
  17. Very interesting, I've only used the spray paint once just to test what it looked like but I'll have to try this next time I play
  18. It all depends on where I'm going or what I'm doing currently, if I go a short distance(eg from one place to another in the same region) then I travel very light just in case I get into a wolf struggle or I need to climb. .. But if I'm going on a long trek then I always prepare well in advance before I leave. 15 sticks and 5 cloth if I need to build a snow shelter and always carry a few extra sticks for fire building and maintaining purposes. A couple pieces of cedar and fir firewood A book(both skill books to read and the static books for fires) 2 Sewing kits 2 firearm cleaning kits 2 whetstones 2 flares A hatchet I rarely ever carry the hacksaw unless I need it to hack up metal to make scrap metal to make arrowheads or if I'm on Timberwolf Mountain. Same goes for the heavy hammer, it's way to heavy to be lugging around as it's only purpose is forge work and nothing else. Prybar -------------- I tend to carry a lot more than I should because of the cautious player in me but as far as my game play goes, I never get too encumbered because it's too painful to watch the character move so slowly lol
  19. They can disappear for awhile but what I've done that works most of the time is to go to another moose spawn point or to another region to find one there because you could be waiting awhile if you wait for them to come back to just one spot
  20. Wolf barks - I'm super jumpy which is why I like to play on the lower levels Which is also why I don't play The Hunted Challenge. Too scared to try it. Wolves, bunnies, deer coming out of nowhere and me not expecting them to be there - ties in with me being jumpy lol The raven falls trestle bridge. Not scared of it per se but every time I cross it, my hands sweat and the game doesn't help by throwing in creepy music and being a jerk by making the bridge creak and make wood snapping sounds Traveling at night - Back when I first started playing, I traveled at night a lot and basically pushed my luck whenever I could, seeing what I can get away with but a couple wolf attacks and seeing their beady green eyes coming after me has made me much more cautious these days as I no longer travel at night unless absolutely necessary.
  21. This is going to be a very dumb question but I have to know So in the game you can get intestinal parasites from eating wolf or bear meat.. Being the curious person I am, I found out that you can actually eat bear meat and meat from some carnivores in real life. My question is that if you can eat that meat, fully cooked of course, could you still get intestinal parasites from it? 🤔
  22. I'm sorry big guy, your slow and painful death may have been unnecessary but hey thanks to you and your two deer friends that I shot in the face with my rifle, i now have well over a month's worth of food and hides that i can make a coat out of and necessary repairs to other items so thank you 😘 (Ever since I started this particular run, i have hunted with the bow and arrow and while it's only a pound and a tenth, it takes some getting used to because the arrows don't fly straight but in an arc. I have gotten pretty good at it but the past few days I have been getting nothing but screwed over by it. I've been able to hit deer but they take forever to bleed and drop. It's adrenaline I get that but getting shot TWICE by an arrow which creates a bigger wound than a bullet and being able to run halfway across the map taking more than a half a day to die, I don't think so. So when I finally got the "Silent Hunter" achievement which is survive the first 50 days without firing any firearms(rifle, distress pistol and revolver) I went back to where I left my rifle and in turn shot two deer in the head which instantly killed them and then the bear. The bear was a little overkill but after getting screwed over by the bow and arrow it felt good to finally see something drop on the first shot So in the end, I don't feel bad. Not even a little bit.
  23. Careful. You might wake up with that head next to you in bed
  24. I've noticed too that there is a pause when saving. Kind of reminds me of when you were climbing a hill and the game would hitch, thinking whether to punish you with a sprain or not lol
