  1. I accidentally discovered a bug when starting fires with a mag-lens in the Rim Grill just outside of the Pleasant Valley Farmhouse. It's produced by placing a Recycled Can on top of the Rim Grill, picking it back up, and simply placing the can again. (Doesn't work if the grill is lit.) If you want the cans to be normal size again, simply go inside a building, and back out, they'll be normal size. Thus, I present to you, tiny recycled cans! They can get so small, that they fail to render in if you take a step away from them, and can't be picked up again if placed back on the rim grill! I have no idea why this happens, I know this Rim Grill used to be a burn barrel a while ago. I'm not using my mods in my game if you're curious. Well, that's it. I might test what else this can effect, maybe a cooking pot? Anyway, just wanted to share this little bug that brought a smile to my day.
  2. With the recent additions made to beachcombing (introduced March 30th, 2023), there are many new things to be found when perusing the frozen shorelines of Great Bear, so I wanted to create a place where fellow survivors can share their findings. Here are some interesting things I found beachcombing for the first time since the new update! Survival mode: Stalker Location: Bleak Inlet Washed up Canoe and some arrows. I'll take free arrow heads anyday! Neat little suitcase. Kind of want one now. Large trunk filled with some clothing. Closest thing to a treasure chest! Food and tools. This would be a great find for the start of a new game! Have a great day!
  3. That's one big reishi mushroom. Outa be able to make a ton of tea with that!
  4. Fire-hardened arrows are really good for leveling your archery skill on rabbits without wasting durability on your regular arrows. Also, I highly recommend you don't try to scare off a wolf with one. In my testing, it takes two arrows to the nose to scare a wolf, so just use a regular arrow if you're charged by one.
  5. Yeah, I believe this issue has been present since Blackrock got released. It's a bit frustrating, as all that lead would be nice to make more bullets with the milling machine being right there (after unlocking it of course).
  6. Can you share a screenshot? I would be extremely interested in seeing this.
  7. Hmm, never had this happen, then again I never really make rock caches. I'll have to test it.
  8. Before I had completely learned the region, I was ice fishing in costal highway, and a blizzard rolled in just as I ran out of fuel. I attempted to make my way back to the garage, but I very quickly became lost. After just running around in the blizzard, trying to find anything, I found a random piece of charcoal I left in the middle of the ice. I suddenly remembered where I had dropped this piece of charcoal, and used it to orient myself. I have a ton of situations where 1 little item saved my bacon. I was hunting a bear in costal highway, and got mauled by it, only to get up, bandage my wounds, and shot the bear again. I promptly got mauled again, and woke up with a pixel of health remaining and bleeding. I don't think I even had time to apply a bandage, so I immediately popped a stim, shot the bear a third time, killing it, before realizing I didn't have any bandages left, and just booked it back to base, praying that there weren't any wolves immediately between me and the garage. Good times. It just shows how useful every single item can be. Every tool, clothing item, and medical supply has a use, and forgetting, or running out of these can quickly result in starting a new run. It's why I'm always carrying too much gear, because I "need" all of it lol. This is why I love The Long Dark.
  9. Hmm. I see some tins of coffee and boxes of Herbal Tea on a shelf. I see two lights directly next to each other on the wall, why two though? Wouldn't one just work? I also see a clock, which which is set to approximately 4:15 in the first picture and 4:20 in the second picture. Either there was an aurora for 5 minutes, or an aurora for over 12 hours. I don't recognize where this is, so glimmer fog could have happened as well. Which may mean that you had to place the lantern in the same exact place each time. I don't use any mods so I'm jealous that you can stack the herbal tea like that. Though at this angle, that herbal tea looks like it's apart of the wall. Probably overthinking this, but that's what I see.
  10. Who set Pleasant Valley on fire? The Airfield has some amazing sunsets, wonder if the Stag agrees? Aurora wolf early in the morning. It's strange seeing one up close without it trying to eat you.
  11. After experiencing most of the DLC, I just felt like sharing my thoughts. So far, after exploring the new hub, and airfield region, I AM LOVING them! I didn't go to the new regions for the first DLC update because of spending a ton of time prepping for the journey, which ultimately took long enough for the second part to come out. I love how calm the hub region is. It truly feels like someplace new compared to the classic regions of Great Bear. Plus, the different transition zones you have to traverse are amazing, bringing so many feelings of wonder, as well as unease traveling through the dark train tunnels, hearing the slight whisper of air and crumbling rocks. Glimmer fog is such an interesting concept, as having the effect of the aurora take place during the day, as well as having an actual influence over the player, and not just the animals with insomnia brings so many questions. Acorns are cool! Probably my only complaint is needing to use a heavy hammer to smash them down, instead of a stone, or even the handle of the hatchet, but at the same time I understand needing to balance a renewable source of food and coffee. I also enjoy how long it takes just to prep the acorns for eating/brewing, making me interested if we're going to receive more complex recipes in the future. I will also say that the smooth animations for repairing the transmitter towers didn't get unnoticed, they are top notch! Lastly, some small things that bug me: I do feel bad for interloper players for not being able to participate in the tale, which is understandable, since the reward is more suited for the other difficulties. Though an Idea I had was to replace the rifle holster with a quiver for interloper players when playing on the Interloper difficulty, but I don't know. Probably the last thing I was sad about is being unable to repair, or make the new survivor bow introduced with the pt. 1 update. It has such an awesome design, but being the collector I am, I don't want to use and break it if it can't be repaired. (I guess this gripe is just a personal thing lol) Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings. Overall Hinterland, you've done a fantastic job with this update! Can't wait to see what ells you've got up your sleeve in the future! Thank you for making these in the first place! Have a good day everyone!
  12. Thank you Hinterland! I hope everyone enjoys their holiday! The dlc and continued support of the game brings me overwhelming joy towards the end of a difficult year!
  13. There's a wolf in Hush River Valley that can break your bedroll as well, pretty sure some wolves always attack your bedroll and there's a potential that you ran into the same wolf each time. I don't believe it's an bug, and you were unfortunately extremely unlucky. I've seen streamers have their runs ended by wolves like that, and many have just accepted and even make mental notes of which wolves can do which in a struggle. Too be quick: Wolves have been doing that for a long time, hopefully you don't run into another wolf like that again.
  14. There are likely a lot of small cases like these in the game, just they only make themselves known to some people.
  15. I've already reported this issue, I'm just curious if anyone ells experiences it. Simply, upon opening the clothing menu, I experience a massive frame drop, resulting in the menu opening half a second late. This occurs again after selecting a different piece of clothing, before clearing up. This also occurs when opening the clothing tab in my backpack, causing the frame drop. I did a little testing, and it occurs regardless of graphics quality, and all game files are determined to be verified, so it may not be the cause. It's not game breaking, just slows things down a bit, and is the only real issue that I've experienced sense the release of the dlc. Hinterland has done a great job at cleaning up all the bugs so far, and I'm loving the new dlc items! Thank you Hinterland for the fantastic work you've done!
  16. Imagine if they did? Just drop one on the ground and you have a wind break and safe place to create a campfire anywhere you want. That'd be extremely broken lol.
  17. Just found this massive piece of birch bark in Ash Canyon. Wondering if anyone ells have encountered such big pieces? Could probably make about 10 teas out of this...
  18. Greetings. Recently, I was continuing my faithful cartographer run on Pilgrim, and within the birch forest in Pleasant Valley: I found the bear that roams there. Knowing that it was Pilgrim, and knowing that bears are usually scaredy cats in Pilgrim, I took a quick popshot at the bear (with a rifle). It was poorly aimed, and hit the bear in the back left leg. Too my surprise and fear, the bear immediately turned around and charged, I didn't have time to run, as I was too shocked and bewildered that the bear was charging me on Pilgrim, resulting in a quick mauling. Thankfully, bear mauls on Pilgrim aren't bad, yes they hurt, and still ruin your clothes, but thankfully, I only lost a hat, and a single bandage and Old Man's Beard solved my bleeding issue as it normally would. Honestly, after over 600 hours of playing TLD, this is the first time I've gotten mauled on Pilgrim, and I'm left wondering why the bear decided to charge. I've shot bears on Pilgrim before, with all of them turning tail and running, so I'm left wondering why. My main idea is that the bear I shot didn't know I was there yet, and upon shooting it, the bear skipped the "Oh it's a human, RUN!" phase because it didn't see me and skipped to "I just got shot, MURDER TIME!" phase like it would on all other difficulties. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience. If you guys want to share your suggestions on why the bear charged, or any interesting wildlife encounters in Pilgrim, I'll gladly read them!
  19. 100% after Hinterland fixes all the large bugs and issues, and finds time to add this feature without interrupting their workflow, this small feature would be really nice!
  20. I noticed that as well, and also, it appears that the icon for meat when carcass harvesting has been changed to a newer icon as well.
  21. Your not the only one with this bug, it is fairly common at the moment. Hinterland is likely working on a fix for it. Think I've heard people say that it doesn't effect the Faithful cartographer achievement.
  22. Greetings! As of today, I was able to complete the "Escape The Darkwalker" challenge without using any runes (besides the final, "banishment" rune). It is an extremely stressful challenge, and I wish to share my hardships, as well as give any tips to those who wish to complete this challenge themselves. First of all, the challenge is simple: Complete the "Escape the Darkwalker" challenge without using the "Lure," "Ward," or "Dispel Fog," runes. You can still use the green campfires of course, as you didn't place or make them. This means that, whenever you aren't at a campfire, the Darkwalker is going to be chasing you down, making every decision you make, and time spent traveling to the next campfire extremely important. Here are some small tidbits that I learned whilst playing, and some tips to help! -Run as little as possible, you have a finite amount of Energy, as you can only sleep for about 4 hours at each campfire, if you don't make water or food. Be sure to make as much coffee as possible, and use the stims and energy drinks you have sparingly. I recommend saving your stims for late in the challenge, when you have little to no energy left, and need to rope climb to access Milton, climb out of Hush River Valley, and access Timberwolf mountain. -Never overburden yourself, you don't want to spend extra energy when walking. This will also keep your walking speed rather quick, and start climbing rope quickly. Keeping yourself from being overburdened also helps in the next tidbit I learned. -Even after you collect all 10 journal pages, the Darkwalker is still slower than your walking speed, even whilst exhausted (if your not overburdened.) Likely, the thing to end your run will be obtaining the rope to climb down the Ravine Falls and reach Bleak Inlet, as in all of my challenge runs, that rope was missing, and I needed to find one to attach to it. Other than that, that's all I got. This challenge gets extremely stressful once you need to get through Broken railroad and Hush River Valley, and I wish for everyone who attempts this challenge: Good Luck! It is possible! (The map display's my route, that I poorly drew arrows upon. )
  23. That sounds more terrifying than it just charging directly at you.
  24. My first game took place in DP, but instead of getting destroyed by the bear, I got surrounded by wolves and chased onto thin ice near the ocean shore. I survived the first plunge into the water, and then the wolf finished me off when I was placed back onto sturdy ice. That was what I got for trying to play for the first time on Stalker. Good times.
