At times, I'll use a weight mod. It was active then.
"A light for deep, dark places, when other lights go out." Has anyone walked under a waterfall when the lantern was lit? I know the quote is from LOTR, but still curious if the water douses it like a normal lantern.
I think it's fine the way it is. Realistically, the animal is usually running, which makes the blood it is losing, more spread out (smaller and farther apart).
I'm not sure how progression would work on this. Most of the time, I just wait 1-3 hours for the animal to die then scour the area for crows/corpse. I vary rarely will attempt to follow the blood trail until it dies.

Keep an eye on your save game locations. I know mine is under my user profile (not contained in the TLD folder) so be careful of the possibility of overwriting other versions saves. May consider having separate "save folders" for each version as well.
How so? For example, I'd rather use books for the Rifle skill vs. raising the skill using valuable ammo/gunpowder.
Same goes for Archery. On each run, I can pretty much get level 5 by reading books and making arrows.
Mending - the higher your skill, less time to mend, more % mended, etc.
Regarding the mementos which point to a transition - I feel kind of cheated. I get all excited when finding a new note only to find out it just points to a transition, which I've known about for years. I suppose it would be helpful to new players... I remember the days when you had to explore to find stuff! When I had to tromp thru 3 feet of snow, 5 miles each way to school. Youngsters these days... 😉
With one exception: Advanced Guns Guns Guns! Save this for after you've reached level 3. I had 5 of them saved up and pretty much took me fully to level 5.
