  1. If hunting in wolf and bear infested areas and near cabins without fireplaces and railings around the perimeter (for example coastal hwy) I’ll make a fire at the entrance of the railing and croutch between the fire and front door to cook. The fire and railings keep you from getting attacked, keeps you warm, and allows you to store and cook lots of raw meat (I’ll cook an entire bear or moose) outside where fires last longer. This also works with 2 or 3 fires if you’re backed up against some big boulders or cliffs.
  2. I play stalker and occasionally voyager for exploring regions I’ve not yet been to. First aid: bandages, antiseptic, painkillers, stim, antibiotics. I like painkillers over hip tea cause they are lighter and will use lich beard if out of antiseptic. tools: knife, axe, bow w/ 3 arrows, 1 flare, 2 torch, 2 fishing gear, 1 or 2 cans. fire: matches and striker rod or mag glass, 2 sticks, 2 reclaim wood or 2 coal if possible, and cat tail heads. food: about 1000 calories, cat tail stalks, 1 liter of water or half liter with tea/coffee. misc: 5 to 10 cloth (for snow shelters and repairs if needed) and maybe 2 leather. Moose satchel if I’ve made it. clothing depends on what I found/made. If I’m traveling to areas with little to no man made shelters (like HRV) I’ll take the rifle and or revolver if I got them. The only times I carry the hammer or saw is when I’m ferrying them to a forge. Items like whetstone and sewing kit I keep at whatever regional base I’m using. Lantern and bedroll are also items I keep at a regional base and usually only take with me if I’m in regions without man made shelters or just traveling to new regions.
  3. I’ve done that in HRV but didn’t notice trust in MT. Good to know, thanks.
  4. I got the polaroid in MT but I cannot get to the tower. I can get to the area just below it, there looks to be a narrow path between rocks but it’s far to steep to climb and cannot get to the actual base of the tower. Any help would be much appreciated.
  5. Had a bit of a hard time with that decision. Coastal Hwy and Mountain Town are equally my favs. Loves going on wolf slaying sprees in coastal and mountain town kinda reminds me of where I grew up.
  6. Thank you for that correction. Last and only time I was there I died within minutes of entering the region.... I let stupid happen. Tho in my fleeting moments there I didn’t see any twolves, I assumed they were in it due to the name.
  7. I agree with Frumpy, eating/drinking and looking at the map while moving makes complete sense. We can all eat and drink while moving irl, it’s not a complicated process. As it is we can already cycle our whole weapons inventory without stopping. When it comes to dressing and cleaning wounds, makes sense to stop.
  8. I’ve read thru the sled discussions in the past and it seems to me a 50/50 split. I too am in favor of the sled/toboggan idea for pretty much the same reasons Schrod Box is. The only additional thing I would like it for us to be able to ride downhill on it. I realize it would be more or less pointless but for such a weary traveler all alone there’s got to be some kind of reprieve from the bleak argues journey of a merely survivalist existence. Some fun has got to be had.
  9. Sort of. Timberwolves are more aggressive, a bit stronger, and have a pack moral. They are only in 2 regions I believe, bleak inlet and Timberwolf Mountain. But aside from that no, coastal hwy just has an exponential amount of wolves.
  10. I too would like an easy switch out system but have solved this for myself in a rather simple way. It takes a bit of time in the beginning but I’m OCD af and this works for me. I always choose a regional base with lots of storage. In Myst Lake for example I have 2 (the dam and camp office) with food and water set about in various spots throughout the region. At each base I have a storage container filled with all my exploration gear and one filled with all my in region gear. Within a region I generally pack as light as possible (axe, knife, bow w/ 3 arrows, 2 torches 1 flare, 2 fishing tackle, med supplies, fire source, 5 cloth, 1.5 water and about 3kgs of food) sometimes I carry the revolver and bedroll but usually only when in areas I’m unfamiliar with or that have few man made shelters. When I’m expeditioning into a new region I dump all my in region gear into an empty storage container and load up with my exploration gear. This always includes both firearms and bow if I have them, bedroll, more food & water, and piece of wood that burns for at least an hour. I generally manage with 2 different load outs with many of the same items overlapping, just that when I’m going into a new region I carry more gear. I don’t begin to set up multiple load outs until I have multiples of the same tool. As I find an additional axe for example I’ll set it aside at my regional base and begin to build up another storage container for expeditions. I too have been in the situation where I’m like “o shit I don’t have my bedroll” so with this set up I don’t have that prob anymore. I like your idea of an easy switch system but hope this helps.
  11. I play stalker and voyager. This describes pretty much exactly how I set up. 2 regional bases, each is usually nearish to a region exit. My mains are trappers or hydro dam and the gas station in coastal hwy. Food and water are stored thru out each region as I explore (toilets = effortless potable water) canned goods are never discarded (anticipating I’ll make cooking 5).
  12. Lots of good tips thus far. I really like that custom game trainer idea. My only addition would be to use deer or rabbits as bait. When I don’t have many revolver bullets or my arch skill is only 1, I scare rabbits and deer toward wolves. Once the wolf has the bait I kill the wolf then have 2 animals to harvest. Also not sure if you know but once you make a wolf bleed it will eventually bleed out and the carcass can usually be found relatively near the struggle spot. Do not get set on one shot one kill, especially in the beginning of each new run.
  13. I just started a stalker survival run. I’ve played a lot of voyager and have found that once you’ve got your basic tools and clothes gathered, the game can be really easy going provided you don’t let stupid happen. My only addition to this is that when hunting bears and moose you should make use of crouched spaces. Both animals cannot go into crouched spaces and doorways offer a false sense of safety (I’ve been hurt by pissed off bears when in a doorless fishing hut). But bears will wait a bit for you to come out and mail your ass. Recently I took out 2 bears in FM, one at each derailment site by making use of the downed trees resting on the train cars. Also it’s happened to me where I thought I killed a bear and approached it to harvest only to find out it wasn’t dead and it then got attacked (not sure if it was a glitch or just a rare occurrence or if the rabbits are giving them lessons). I’ve found that hunting in stalker is definitely a bit harder, the wolves are much more aggressive. Thanks for the info, any and all tips are very welcome.
  14. Having both stag and doe would be more realistic and take hunting to a new lvl. I’ve long thought that more use could be made of both antlers and bones. Perhaps that could added to carcass harvesting or as part of a new crafting skill. Also flint or obsidian would be a cool resource addition. Napping both is a relatively simple thing to learn/figure out and seeing as this is a mountainous volcanic region of the world those kinds of rock would be available. They would be a great alternative to forging a knife or axe and balanced by changing the lifespan or making them not repairable. I know spears have long been a sought after addition by many of us as well as the ability to either make sharp wooden tips or rock tips for arrows. Mountain lions/cougars scare me, especially with their stealthy sneakiness. Regardless, I do very much like the idea of additional wildlife. Good suggestions, looks like many of us have many of the same wishes.

    New skills

I really like the idea of expanding the skill set as well. I think crafting is a great example but not sure about first aid or mountaineering. After being on this forum for a while I’ve noticed there seems to be a significant number of ppl who really don’t want this game to change and have said specifically that this is not a Bethesda like game nor should it be. Many of those same ppl don’t want new equipment added either (ice axe) for reasons of redundancy or fear that it might possibly make the game easier. One of the problems I see with making crating a skill is that all of crafting would have to be revamped. As of now any player can craft any item without fail on day one if given access to needed materials. There is no failure rate, experience needed or lvl requirements that hinder a player from making any item, these things would need to change.
  16. Not trying to have an argumentative back and forth, we all know doing so on the internet is like pissing in the wind. If you really wanna get nit picky about my word choice/semantics, then yes priceless was not the correct word choice. Aside from that error of hyperboles dictation, your point about redundancy can be used for torches and the storm lantern in many respects or the axe and saw. There are numerous tools in the game that have overlapping uses, regardless I don’t see ppl complaining about the need to reduce the diversity of each tool use. But rather since this is a wish list section, I think it appropriate to suggest wishes of additional crafting recipes and lootable items. Particularly when those items would be of use and would realistically be in this kind of real world setting.
  17. I see this argument as a response to a lot of ppls wishlist ideas. Yes the minimalism and simplicity is beautiful but it also being mundane repetition and boredom. All survival items are made up of either craftables, loot, or harvest and both crafting and looting are fun aspects to this open world survival game. That said I think adding additional crafting recipes and loot items gives more depth and interaction to the game. Candles make sense in this kind of setting for numerous obvious reasons. A candles use is priceless in this game world and would help in expanding the players experience. If someone does not want to use whatever item all they have to do it leave it where it was found or not make it.
  18. I would like to be able to put doors on ice fishing huts that do not have one.
  19. I’ve seen this suggests few times. I agree, they would be a fun addition to crafting and very helpful in mines and cabins for night navigation within a building, repairs, crafting, and reading.

    New tool

It’s been suggested numerous times. Many of us would like to see it added.
  21. I would like additional drink containers as well, mainly something like a thermos. Would be nice to load it up with warm coffee, tea or soup when venturing thru a blizzard or colder areas.
  22. I realize this maybe silly and really has no actual purpose. I wish my survivor could sit on any of the many benches and chairs or next to a fire. I especially have this desire when drinking coffee and reading in the mornings or tea and reading at night. It would add a bit of cozyness or just a lil something kinda fun and comfortable for such a anguishing traveler.
  23. I’ve done a search using a few different phrases and couldn’t find this topic, tho I’m sure it’s already been discussed. The ability to dry our own meats would be a nice addition. With crafting/curing branches and pelts already being an integral part of the game, adding dried meats seems like a realistic idea for this setting. Salt would be the only item needed to be added since we already have field dressing and cook books. I’m sure some will say it’s not needed or that it will make the game easier. I think it adds to the realism of the situation, gives players another item to craft, and helpful for those of us who like to be constantly on the move instead of setting up shop in a regions central location. Additionally this would be nice when taking down moose or bear since there is soooo much meat that goes to waste (for me anyways).
  24. I’ve done something similar in Bleak Inlet (timber wolf country). If I steal a deer kill from the pack I’ll light 2 or 3 fires (long enough to burn while harvesting ) around the carcass as a shield. After I’ll grab a torch as I leave the bones for those bastards to pick clean. I started doing this cause the timberwolves would pack attack me as soon as I was done harvesting and have been killed as a result. Kill me once, learning mistake; kill me twice, I deserved it for not learning.
