  1. Wineries & vineyards are common in BC. As is ice wine: So one could conceivably find grapes still on the vines in vineyards here in BC, in the winter. And there could be some interesting possibilities from that, both in usage & new area concepts.
  2. Just an addendum by me, because I got to thinking about TLD hunting mechanics today while out hiking around our ranch. Rabbits (hare) change their colour in the winter, they go pure white. For camouflage. They're surprisingly hard to see, you tend to only notice them if they're moving. But when they detect you first, they freeze. They'll stay motionless, unless they think you've seen them / get too close, at which point they dart off. Very very hard to hunt, outside of snares. Still possible, though. I wonder if it would be better to have them white, in game, so at least they're harder to spot. That would be a simple tweak. Implementing better prey mechanics would be great, too, albeit much harder to code for. So, if you see one, you can potentially sneak up on one & nail it with a rock, but it would be tougher & more of a gamble. How close can you get before it takes off? I took this picture earlier today. I'm zoomed in here, I was roughly 25 meters away. It was frozen in place, hoping I'd pass by without noticing. I managed to get about 8 steps closer before it darted away. Food for thought. (the snow has been melting here for aprox. 1 month now, and rabbits here have been starting to change back to summer colours, so this one isn't pure white anymore, but still kinda close)
  3. Neat! As an aside: the Ravine trestle always reminds me of a place my sister took me X-country skiing when I visited her a few Christmases ago: There were a few much bigger ones, including a loong curved one like the Ravine. Only part that kinda sucked was having to take your skis off to walk through the tunnels.
  4. Same here. PC. I think this one's common since the first TFTFT update. Isn't there another thread? Anyway, it's a weird one. It's totally wrong... but it's kinda nice being able to hear instead of the crazy howling blizzard wind. 😁
  5. @Glaciabrings up good points & I fully agree with most of them.
  6. well duh. haha I am a Custom fanboy, for sure. I wasn't arguing against you there, other than one line. (what do lopers want) It was a question based on a false premise. (that every player on a given difficulty should have the exact same mindset) That said, since Feats weren't available in Custom, and unless they make Custom options changeable from an existing Interloper (or whatever diff.) run, I'm now locked in to Interloper, essentially. (I don't enjoy new runs anymore, it's simply an exercise in memory & patience) But for new players/runs, your take would be ideal, and I'm all for it. Custom all the way.
  7. Interloper players aren't homogeneous, heck, that goes for pretty much every grouping of humans ever. We're all individuals... we're each a custom install.

    Burn Tinder

I've previously made the suggestion of using tinder as an ingredient for a craftable fire log. Something like that would make this stuff useful.
  9. Missed something. Always check your progress menu before moving on.
  10. To be clear: I hacked my Interloper save file in order to be able to play, so there's a high likelihood that's the cause of the following. I've noticed some things have been "reset" in the game, mostly cupboards & lockers which I know I've previously searched. They now show as unsearched. Not that I've found anything in them, but it's kind of odd. Same with a few unlocked doors (had to re-pry my way into the gas station in Milton), and the safe in Trapper's. I had already completely cleared every single interior in the game on my way to the Far Territory, and I'm finding these things on my way back, playing the Tales. Thought I'd throw this out there, see if I'm alone or not. Either way, I wouldn't rate it higher than "interesting"; it's certainly far from game breaking haha. Quite possibly it's something Hinterland needs to wrestle with in order to officially support 'lopers.
  11. Tapping for syrup only works during the seasonal change, not in the depths of winter. You need nights below freezing and days above 5C at least. That's what makes the sap flow. May as well try to tap a 2x4 haha But it is a game so hey, could be a neat mechanic anyway. Keep in mind that in order to make syrup you need to reduce the sap dramatically. IIRC it's around 10:1, but it's been ages since I've done it. A friend's grandfather had a maple sugar shack, and it would take most of the day to simmer the sap down.
  12. My bold. I just wanted to reiterate how that is a huge reason so many Interlopers aren't happy about being left out, especially considering there was no warning. I just hacked my way into it the other day. So, I'm now on survival day 119 in Interloper, and have repaired the first 2 towers I found, and I just had a nap after exploring the first bunker I made it to. I'm enjoying this a lot, it's quite a challenge in Interloper difficulty. Just the kind of thing I was hoping for! As for loot, thus far I haven't found anything overpowered. 2 foodstuff items, possibly, but I left them where I found them. I've got more meat than I know what to do with, due to all the aurora wolves/bear I've killed in my wake. I've left a trail of raw meat like breadcrumbs. 😁
  13. I like it. Custom should really enable a whole world of possibilities, IMO. I'd quite like it if you could do an Interloper run with your option on top of it: spawn with an empty rifle. It would be the only gun available in the entire run. BRA would still be Low; only a smattering of casings and gunpowder ingredients to be found. Maybe gun books, too. Anyway, yeah, the scope of Custom should be broadened. (and include Feats, dammit!)
  14. So I ended up installing everything on my niece's computer, in order to use a custom settings tweak mod to see if that would work. It didn't. But my niece has high code fu, and did some playing around with a copy of my save file. Basically converted it to Interloper + medium BRA. That made the scanner spawn in the tower, but there was still no note nor did the Tale trigger. Then I tried a dev command to manually add the note to my inventory, and it triggered. I'm now back home, steam updated my save file here, and I'm comfortably playing Tales on my previous 100+ day Interloper run. I'm just settling into Forlorn Muskeg now. Enjoyable task thus far (other than the hacking). If my 25 year old niece can make it work, surely Hinterland can, too. 😛
  15. I've found bear to be glitchy in Tales, too. Just had one helluva time hunting one in FM - it was constantly glitching into rock, then when I scored a 2nd hit it stuttered back & forth about 10 yards, until I finally finished it off. Then the quarters didn't spawn upon quartering. Very strange.

    Food Talk

Acorn flour is a thing. You can use it much like "normal" flour. Adding maple syrup on top is literally the icing on the cake. Considering the steps necessary to utilize acorns in-game, being able to make acorn bread/pancakes/whatever would add an awesome layer to it all.
  17. It's really a crazy thing, how it can be triggered. Especially scary when there's no warning, as can happen. Take care out there.
  18. I could be the timing of the flickering, too. One of ours here has seizure issues, and regular flickering lights (eg. strobe light) can bring it on, while random flickering doesn't.
  19. Bases everywhere. By the end of my 500+ Interloper run (only stopped due to the update wipe) I had bases all over the place, as well as trails of items (usually sticks & coal, sometimes even raw meat) to follow in case I'm caught in a blizzard. Spray painted arrows in every cave for quick easy navigation. Stashes all over the place. I can keep myself quite busy by constantly roaming around, adding to my preps & strengthening my spider web of "trade routes".
  20. The artistic vision, and the great balance of exploration + some decently realistic survival mechanics. I was hooked really quick. That said, I feel like this is just the tip of the iceberg, in the sense that I see how this could be an alpha version of something that could be potentially massive.
  21. Mods here too often coddle/cater to pearl clutchers. I understand it, as it is the easiest way out & the way of things on every official product forum. Which is why I feel a bit sad for them. We can be so fragile while behind a keyboard, while we also struggle to survive in the long dark...

  22. @Leeanda RE: custom > feats: it's a no-go for many, until/unless Hinterland makes them available in Custom mode. Weird decision on their part, that one. Like taking Stalker level & making one custom tweak to it to make it a touch harder negates Feats, while Pilgrim doesn't. Absolutely nonsensical. I mean, consider the 500 days feat... not exactly a quickie! Regarding Cabin Fever: A basic concept I posted a while back. Food (well, c'mon, beer = liquid bread, and bread = food) for thought.
  23. Not everyone buys the game at the same time. A friend of mine got it last month, thanks to me talking about it. I kind of regret it - I keep getting phone calls/texts asking for pointers in the middle of the night now. LOL But I don't want to be a spoiler!
