This my first time playing and I am having a grand time. I don't know these areas well so I it's quite the challenge. I spent most of yesterday on a single run, only found 1 cache in CH but decided to try for ML anyway. Went well at first but then I went looking for the caches and somehow ended wandering lost in a blizzard. I'm gonna say there was a spatial anomaly that made all roads lead back to Three Strikes.😋 Died 8 game days into the run.
By this time there were only about 3hrs left so I made a new run and found 1 cache, looted everywhere but the area past the bear park, and ran back to the mine. I'm thinking I will try to hunker down there. Since I mostly play pilgrim I'm a little worried about the wolves so I'm thinking of using a new run to test out the wolves before making another stupid mistake with what is now my main run. I'm hoping maybe I can get far enough into the mine to survive the cold but I"m collecting wood just in case. I like that there is a single approach to the mine and maybe I'll get lucky and be able to shoot doggies from relative safety
Not really knowing the area is it's own challenge. I actually wasted time looking for the church on CH before remembering it's in DP. Only figured it out when I thought just look for the lighthouse. Doh! No lighthouse. Wrong area.
I did manage to get the first badge though, so I'm hoping I manage to get the last.
I never fired my flare gun and I found all the survivors. Look for cleft caves and hollows. I have over 30 flares and I don't think I have used the flare gun at all. They are there. The one closest to Molly's house was the hardest to find for me but still took less than an in game day. You can find them all without the flares.
Okay, I am going to age myself but I'm going to go in order of the games I most remember since childhood. The timeline of my favorite games is sort of my personal history. Games have always played a major part in my life and family. My mother worked at Texas Instruments and even in the 70's I knew what computers were and had seen real working robots. They delivered mail in my mom's workplace.
My first game was Pong. My brothers and I played this almost constantly. The next game I remember being really popular in my house was Space Invaders. I remember my mom had the game cartridge before we even had the Atari. Night Driver was really popular with us as well. My mom and her sisters played a lot Circus Atari too. Once we had video games my brothers and I were immediately consumed by them. Atari also had Donkey Kong, the Pac Man franchise and Asteroids. Oh, and Defender! Defender was awesome. This was also when I first started learning DOS. My mom was able to buy a computer from the TI company store, so we have always had those too.
While we've had every single gaming console to come out, Nintendo ruled them all after it appeared. Contra was popular in my house along with the Mario Bros and Zelda games. We spent hours playing Frogger and Tetris too. I am sure I am mixing up consoles and game timelines here but you get the picture. There was Perfect Dark which is the FPS I remember playing.
I also played and wrote content for MUDS and I loved the improvised RP that would happen. I haven't even gotten to modern games and I feel I've written too much.
Today, I mostly play PC games. I love the Elder Scroll series and Morrowind is my favorite. Before TLD I would load it up and head to the wilderness to watch the night sky and listen to the betty netches sing. Now TLD gives me a similar experience. I also like the fallout series, and the Civ Series. I liked Heroes of Might and Magic too. Myst was awesome. I left so many out, but OMG the memories that have come back as a result of this.
I've tried out all the modes but haven't messed with custom at all. I like Pilgrim for when I just want to "go for a walk in the snow". I live in a southern city so rarely even see snow let alone get any that sticks. I don't mind the wildlife running away because it forces me to plan my hunts. I don't think I have gotten to 500 days on any run. I usually get myself trapped or lost somewhere. I've fallen into crevices goating around that I just couldn't escape from.
However, whenever I am showing someone the game, or if I'm not looking for the quieter experience, I always start a loper run. I'm not sure I've lasted more than two or three days, though. I'd like to blame poor habits from pilgrim, but it's usually doing something I know I shouldn't.
I stabbed him without remorse. He would not survive. I mean, really, he could have pulled that knife out himself. It would also seem that he was basically hanging out watching the "real" bad guys do things without enough gumption to either join in or attempt prevention. Even in perfect health, I don't think he would have survived. It made me wonder how he even got to the farmhouse.
I'm new to these forums but I had to say I just sat here and read all this, even quoting parts to people in the room. This story is great. Keep it coming.
