  1. With the Timberwolves, it has NOTHING to do with defending territory, they will chase you across the entire map unless you kill every single one of them. Its ridiculous. I gotta totally with the OP, these are way over the top. might as well have zombies in the game as these things.
  2. A person skilled at using a map would be able to at least roughly estimate their position and direction of travel based on their surroundings and the position of the sun- even without an operable compass. The premise of this game has always been that the character is/was a bush pilot. (until the very recent addition of playing as Dr. Astrid) I’ve always felt that a bush pilot would certainly need to be fairly skilled in map use. Furthermore, since the game itself allows the player/character to CREATE our own map, the game itself is assuming the character is skilled enough with maps to be able to make their own. Magical artifacts are extremely rare in today’s world, we must learn skills to make up for it. If muggles can do it, so can you.
  3. There is a key bind designated to put away your active weapon or item. The simple solution to your problem is to “holster” the revolver. It’s the only weapon that this is a problem with, (except stones) as the bow and rifle cannot be fired without aiming first.
  4. I’ve noticed that as well, but it’s only when you first drop them. After reloading the game they go back to normal.
  5. No, it does not. You lose your maps just like everything else.
  6. I started a new game this weekend and I am unable to “place” the rifle in the gunrack at Trapper Cabin. I was able to do so on the last survival game I was playing- which was started before the recent episode 3 update. was that just a fluke, or can anyone confirm that gunracks used to have a snap point for the rifle that no longer works?

    4DON Too Easy?

I also believed that the event would be more challenging, and/or more exciting than I found it to be. Here’s the thing: It would be nearly impossible to design an event that challenges and stimulates veteran players, particularly Interloper fans, without making it punishingly unenjoyable to newer players, or those without a deathwish. I thought there were PLENTY of wolves, at times in CH, I could see 10-12 on the field at once, and it was not easy getting around, and if I wasn’t a long time player who knows all the tricks for maximizing calories and firewood and managing every resource, I could see that it stood a very good chance of being a struggle to achieve those badges. Maybe it wasn’t the king of extremeville, but it was enjoyable- taken for the four day holiday event that it is.
  8. I missed this event last year, and don’t mind saying I’m forever saddened by two eternally grayed out badges. THIS YEAR THOUGH! Boy was I READY! I looted my crazy ass off on the first day! I decided to stay in CH, to limit resources and increase challenge a bit, so I had about a dozen candy bars, 30 or so cat tail stalks and I think close to 20 rounds for the rifle. I had collected enough wood to keep a fire goin’ for over 400 game hours, and I had a plan. A good solid plan. Day 2- I go out to do some scouting. Wolves, wolves wolves! Everywhere! I take down 2 almost side by side and the others skedaddle. Light a campfire between them to keep their friends at bay so I can harvest the carcasses, and all goes well. Inside to drop off pelts, and I eat 1 chunk of meat, risking the 1 or 2% chance of parasites; and I’m pleasantly surprised to find that’s not been activated. (Seems a bit “off” to me- I thought this would be harder) Well, I get to thinking, there’s enough wolves out there for me to head into day 4 with a pair of Wolfskin coats... Out I go, quickly pick a good spot and wait for them. Heh heh heh! They never saw it coming. Pretty aggressive, they keep coming back til I’ve got 6 dead in a very small area. I heard zero wolf noises after the last kill, but I waited for some time to be sure I had them all. “Got the whole darn pack!” I think smugly, and begin harvesting pelts and guts. I didn’t bother with a fire this time- none left to worry about. I guess the respawn timers are accelerated to go along with increased numbers. i never got those pelts inside. i never got myself inside.

    EP3 review

I'm of the opinion that Molly is the unknown "she/her" that the convict who assaults Will at the end of Ep 2 is referring to. We never see Molly wearing anything other than her overalls in Ep 3, but if you look closely at the splash screen art; the coat she is wearing looks an awful lot like the one that convict wore.
  10. Has anyone else noticed this since the chapter 3 release? The wolves literally NEVER stop howling. Its just one long constant howling session. I noticed it in the story playthough, and assumed it was intentional, or that is was because there were just SO many wolves active on the map at once, but its happening in Survival mode as well.
  11. update on this- my apologies for the errors- but it's also possible that they are somewhat random I suppose.
  12. Based on the sequence that they appear in my journal, and my memory of when I explored certain places---
  13. If you don't know what happened then you ABSOLUTELY missed something. And, just because the convict in the dam claims that some unnamed "she" or "her" ended up on his bad side doesn't indicate it was Astrid. Clearly, at the time, that particular cliffhanger was intended to make us all think exactly that, but it should be obvious now that it was not Astrid.
  14. One was added to my inventory after speaking to the girl that’s still alive, have you interacted with her yet? If you did, and got an ID, then yes, I’d say you missed a body.
  15. I'm not 100% sure about the locations- here's what I remember
  16. Having grown up in Maine, and experiencing blizzards that last for days and days in real life- and having been told by father Tom that blizzards in PV often last for days at a time: I simply went to the house next door, built a fire and waited. Cleaned guns, sharpened blades, repaired stuff, and passed time. I was kind of surprised that it ended as soon as it did. I think it was about noon on the third day.
  17. Yeah, you missed something. In the first conversation sequence with Molly, most of what you’re talking about is covered. Have you played the Redux version of chapter 1? What Astrid says to Molly makes more sense if you have

    SKOOKUM eh!!!!

Even after 5 years, I continue to be impressed with the level of care that goes into this game. Every single time I come away feeling like new content was well worth the wait. I really like the new and improved PV, new wolf pack behavior and new scenery. Thank you! PS- zero bugs or issues found so far, and I’m a magnet, so GOOD JOB to the qc folks also!
  20. First, I’d just like to say that if you play this game long, you have much more and MUCH GREATER self loathing to look forward to. Welcome to the club. I can’t even begin to get one single biggest event to float to the top of the facepalm stew I’ve cooked up after playing for almost five years but I’ll tell you about one that stands out in memory. Bears had just been added to the game- I considered myself quite the badass survivor by this time. Off I went in search of fresh meat. Found one, and blistered him. Back then there was a good chance they’d run away when shot, and that’s what he did. I tracked that bear for hours, halfway across Pleasant Valley. The weather was getting worse and I didn’t know my way around the valley by heart yet. In my excitement, I ignored the weather warning signs, and payed little attention to where I was. I finally caught up to the beast in the middle of the huge open fields between the farmhouse and barn. I got a good headshot on him and down he went. Elated, I rushed over to harvest the carcass! Now, back then; quartering wasn’t a thing, and shorter skinning times from skill weren’t a thing. I breathlessly ticked the counter up to strip all 30 kg of meat, the hide and ALL TEN guts! I couldn’t think of anything but how long I could live off the meat from that bugger! I didn’t even notice how the harvest time was- I just pressed the button and reached for a celebratory cigarette. The smug look on my face as I raised the lighter turned to horror as I noticed my health dropping like a rock as the timer ran down. The weather had become a full on blizzard and I was completely exposed in the middle of a giant open field. I survived the harvest with about 10% health, but when I had control of my character again, it was pitch black, zero visibility from the blizzard, and although I knew generally where I was, I had no idea which direction to go in for shelter. I picked a direction and headed off after dropping all the meat so I could move. After what seemed like hours in real time of trudging blindly through the blizzard watching my health slowly tick down towards zero, I spotted the silhouette of the barn ahead of me. I faded into the long dark within steps of shelter. by the way: that “direct” route up the river involves no fewer than 4 rope climbs, at least one of which often requires you to attach a rope from the top before you can use it. And there’s a bear den at the bottom of one of them. Often, what appears to be the long way is better in the end...
  21. I was wondering the same thing! I don't recall hearing it in the game, but other folks were referring to him by it here, so I just went with it.
  22. 1> Clearly, getting to Perseverance was extremely important to Astrid. Important enough to force Will to fly her there in a bad storm. She knows he has guilt over their failed relationship, his drinking, and would do anything to redeem himself in her eyes. Either someone she is close to is very ill, or needs her help badly, so having no other choice after the crash, she attepted to complete the journey. It's rather obvious that she had no way of knowing that he survived. She couldnt possibly have seen him down there at night, in a blizzard. OR, she knew full well he was down there, and couldn't help him herself, so she went hoping to find help, and ran into the cons. After so much time having passed, she would naturally assume he's dead, and continue on, trying her best to survive, just like Will. 2> Y'all are putting way to much importance on the locked case. Just because she said "No questions" when he asked about it doesnt mean IT is important, just that she's smart enough to know answering THAT question would only lead to more. She had nothing but that case, it's probably just clean undies and hair spray. It seems unlikely that if was truly pivotal to WHY she needed to go to Great Bear that she'd have taken off without doing a thorough search for it. 3> As for Mathis, he is obviously a deranged psychopath who simply enjoys causing pain and suffering. There needs to be very little provocation or justification for it in his mind. Being deranged, the case may only be an excuse for him, or he may not be able to make the connection that what was of value a short time ago is no longer. I don't think he's lying to Will at all. He most likely believes that Astrid is dead, probably having left her for such. The convicts didn't go to the crash to get Astrid, she went to town, same as Will, and ran into them. Escaped Prisoners... c'mon, do ANY of y'all really think they need any ulterior motives for abducting a woman? Think about it. 4> I don't buy the theory that Jeremiah is a forest talker. The whole forest talker thing makes no sense to me at all. The days of the island being exploited environmentally are long gone. They ended with the quakes and the crash. Those trains havent run for years. The dam was abandoned long ago, the logging camp is in disrepair, the trucks and equipment long since removed, the whaling plant long ago shut down, the coal mines abandoned and quiet. What reason could they have for still being active? If it wasn't for actually talking to someone who claims to be one in a side mission, I'd have thought they were just a "background history tool" for filling in the story of the island. Or, perhaps their mission was to jump that Prison bus and free one of their incarcerated compatriots. 5> I think he told Will that he had found the code while exploring the place... I don't think I dreamed that up, but it's possible I just assumed it. As for him having a radio under his floor, it would make sense for someone like him to have a form of communicating with the outside world somehow. I don't think he lied to Will about it, although he didnt tell the full truth. It looks like a very old Military style radio that needs to be cranked to power it up and use. It would depend on hitting relays (which are now dead) to transmit very far, so he can't contact his friend on it. ??? WinterMute is most likely just a made up codeword so the other person will know that Will really has spoken with and come from Jeremiah, so they'll trust and help him, or perhaps it has a secondary meaning as well, letting that other person know that theres something that has not, and shouldnt be discussed with Will. I'm not convinced yet that Will has entirely made the connection between the aurora and the lack of power, or that he realizes that the apocalypse has arrived, although Jeremiah may, and Wintermute is a confirmation of it to his friend. (Even as late in the story as his conversation with Methuselah, Will seems to be clueless that the world, society, as he knew it has ended, but that could just a side effect of so many pain killers) Neither Jeremiah or Grey Mother seem bothered about the weather, so it's most likely just winter as usual, but now without power, but it bothers me that they both seem so unprepared for winter, living in a place where winter is normal. In a place like Great Bear, getting ready for winter well in advance of its arrival is business as usual. Especially for people who don't wish to depend on "the mainlanders". 6> The whole idea that the quiet apocalypse is something caused by the forest talkers, or the government is absurd. WHY on earth would they continue doing it, randomly, for weeks or months after it's accomplished it's goal? The amount of power that would be required to generate a magnetic disturbance of that magnitude artificially, would be astronomical, and would certainly no longer be available after the first event.
  23. I'm concerned about the use of the mouse click macro. While doing so may help standardize the tests, 8.3 clicks per second seems like considerably more than an average player would be able to do without a macro
  24. So yeah, old thread, but I'm just now following a link to it. Laughed my ass off. As for the idea that perhaps it should be reported: When TWM was first added, I stated spending lots of time there. Came home almost every day with two sprained wrists and two sprained ankles. Now, I put up with it for a while, but when it started happening on level ground, right outside the hut, or walking across the lake to the fishing hut, it got me slightly aggravated. I'm sure none of you would think this of me, but when i get aggravated, I tend to bitch about it a bit. I know... I keep it hidden well, but it's true. The response at the time? "Working as intended" I bet NOBODY saw that coming.
