  1. I completely agree and by no means did I ment to say interloper today is easy, it's just much more doable than it used to be when VT came out. Getting to day 100 did not mean that you are out of the woods, it pretty much marked the end of your journey. I think the most someone managed to survive back then was around 150 days or so. But then updates followed rather quickly, changing interloper for good. Otherwise, who's to say that people wouldn't have figured out how to live in VT interloper for 1000 days if they had a few years of practice. People are solving rubik cubes blindfolded so I guess everything is possible
  2. Oh man this brings out memories of the good old times. I remember how tough that was when Interloper came out, on my best run (after many failed) I got to 103 days but this was really stretching it out. First running around all PV to find deer carcasses, then I learned how to kill a deer without any weapon near farmstead with the help of a wolf, made it to the forge in DP and then I could relax, but just a bit. I don't remember what I did the following days but after around - the then dreaded - day 50 I eventually camped it out in and near Jackrabbits CH. What ended my run in the end is lack of firewood, I relied primarely on reclaimed wood because I stood no chance harvesting limbs due to extrem cold weather and constant winds/blizzards. Also back then it wasn't too clear to me how Cabin Fever works and I was constantly afraid of it. Instead of spending 5 out of 6 days inside, as seems to be the norm these days - though I'm not even sure this'd have even worked back then - I tried to spend half a day in fishing huts and thus burned through all the wood in the vicinity pretty quickly. Yes no stones, no torch chaining, no birch tea, no moose items, I don't think you could use fishing tackles for repairing/crafting, and you couldn't repell wolves by just standing there with a torch in hand. This was my last attempt on interloper for more than 5 years, I found it just too stressfull to be enjoyable. Funny enough, I have started a new run 5 days ago and I am already at day 63 with one set of deer pants and both rabbits cloths, rest rubbish or naked but it feels way easier then I remember. I can't put my finger on what exactly makes it easier, wolves are certainly less scary and 5 years ago I also haven't discovered yet how useful the cave in the Ravine is, if it even existed back then. On my current run this cave helped me a lot once I've forged some arrows. But I'm beginning to get how people can now reach over 1000 days in interloper, I don't think that'd have been possible in VT, I certainly couldn't. Please keep us updated about how you're doing and what else you notice that makes interloper easier these days.
  3. Yes I did Survivorman the show is and probably will always be the most real survival show, but that went away on his later shows, he even tried some publicity shit which falls in the Grylls category, like "Fight to survive" or the VR game he's working on. The last good thing I saw from Les is his book, which I have and is really useful. Alone has in each season some very skilled people who thrive and some which only endure through pure will, aka starving. Most of the better ones though give up because they can't handle being alone anymore, despite having a perfect shelter and enough food stocked. I think that tells you the most about how "pure" the experience is. Besides, you can't really compare Survivorman to Alone, the former is about how to get out of a survival situation into civilization as quickly as possible, the latter is about how to survive and thrive in nature. You could say that Survivorman is Pilgrim and Alone is Interloper, bears, wolves and beach combing included.
  4. I'm not arguing, sorry if I made that impression. I just honestly don't know why you find that trek so hard.
  5. Yes and he lost a lot of fans because of this because he never substantiated his claims. Check it out, all he said is "it's produced, therefore fake" - what he ment by this is, "it's not made by Les Stroud and therefore fake". And that's coming from the man which is claiming that BigFoot lives... I really love his earlier work but the older he gets - notably after his divorce - he became a very unpleasant person to be around, as many have contestet who had to work with him. Bitter and old, that's my impression of him right now. Don't get me wrong, he's dead right when it comes to Grylls or Naked Survival and such but Alone is as real as it gets. Or do you think people are starving themself for fun? Some have lost more than 50 pounds and didn't win any money. I also find it funny how Les describes in one directors commentary how difficult it is being alone from ones family, mentally - but he is only alone for six days in his show. Yes in Alone they have occasional med checks and such but they don't see or hear their loved ones for months. Lastly, you can engage with most of the cast from Alone on social media, they are not hiding under a rock. Non disclosures are not lifelong binding and many have dropped out after a few days - if it'd be fake, some would come forward. Truth is, Les would probably crumble would he be on Alone - and many are begging History Channel to make that happen. Grylls would probably drop out after a day if he'd agree to it, Les maybe after a month or two. But hundred days in the Arctic? I don't give Les that much credit anymore.
  6. When a barking dog makes you jump. True story, I was never anxious about dogs but after I played TLD for a few years I noticed that the barking triggers some reaction in my amigdala which puts me in a flight or fight mode.
  7. No his map is called Blackrock and he is the god of maps or do you know any better than these ones? : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1901570789 He only proposed to call it BRM in said thread and because I have the utmost respect for his work and his argument makes the most sense to me, I decided to use BRM as well. Of course calling his word gospel was ment as a joke but I guess that got lost in transmission - really no need to take this so serious, I certainly don't
  8. Well, nice to still be called young at my humble age of 42 - for my kids I'm ancient That's what gaming communities do, every one I know, most typically MMO and RPG communities. I guess it's about being an "insider" vs. a newbie if you know all 244 abbrevations for stuff in the game. Uhm back to topic: technically @UpUpAway95 is right, the zone is called BlackRock Region. But this will also lead to confusion because of Broken RailRoad as Lohaan has pointed out. BRM seems to be the least confusing abbrevation, which is why I settled for that. Maybe Hinterland will change the name of the region ingame to Blackrock Mountain for sake of not breaking the internet even more
  9. umm what? It's a bit lengthy but surely way less brutal than the way to the cannery or even TWM summit. If you enter from the cave near deer clearing in TWM, there is not a single wolf standing in your way to the mine, only one bear which can easily be spotted. There are many caves, bunnies and cattails along the way and the climb sections are also few and short. Getting into the mine is what I'd call recreational hiking but not a real challenge Maybe I'm spoiled by the fact that I've been there more than 10 times in a single run, looking for that elusiv 2nd polaroid but it is really a very safe and easy trek. Even if you enter via Echo Ravine there are only two groups of two wolves and maybe a moose to deal with, but once you reach the plateau where the stone shelf cave is, you won't be harassed by predators any more (well, except for the bear).
  10. I like the idea very much, the only concern I have is that it would impact Interloper because you'd have access to a much bigger area right from the start without the need to find matches or any other lightsource first. You could reach the summit in TWM very quickly if you're spawned near the AC cave without the danger of running into a bear or wolves (via cave from secluded shelf) and if you're on the right loot table where the hacksaw spawns on the summit (the chance is 50:50), you have won interloper. Or reaching montain town from HRV right at the start where you have a better chance to survive. Therefore it would probably needed to be locked for interloper but then on stalker and below I think it is not a huge benefit.
  11. When we're already in spoiler territory, @stmSantana has all 9 possible bunker spawns on his updated map, including what kind of bunker it is:
  12. You only learned about Les Stroud just now? Guess better late than never, he's a legend but his show started airing around 2004. If you like this show you must watch episode 8 of the first season, plane crash in the canadian woods - sounds familiar? If you're interested in other "real as it gets" survival shows I highly recommend history channels "Alone", one of my favorite shows ever.
  13. lol I be damned - I did found one polaroid in BRM but also so far have only found one in AC. But according to the journal I now have found all: I thought that the count before was 12/13 and now that I've found one in BRM it's 13/13 - so for some reason, my game only has one polaroid in AC and they new 3 months ago that there will be another one when BRM releases
  14. Nope didn't find it yet and I am positive that I've checked every known and unknown place, I even went in places where a player should not be possible to go, but nada. My bug report also never got answered and neither admin nor someone else from hinterland has ever said a single word about it.
  15. It's common to abbreviate location in TLD and with TWM we already have a three letter shortcut. BRM falls into the same reasoning. BP does not work because one - that's a gas station brand - and also because the prison is not the only thing in the region. But the region is called BlackRock Mountain officially, so it makes sense to abbreviate it the same as TimberWolfMountain. Besides, the proposal was made by @stmSantana and he is the god of maps - his words are gospel, at least in my book
  16. Oh so the shot did kill him in the end, haven't thought of that as there was no visible blood trail when he ran away. But yes, that's probably what happend.
  17. Please no, this is the favorite spot for our summer vaccation and there is no place for dark lords on this lovely island for more than 200 years.
  18. This is kinda strange, I don't think I've seen something similar in any other region. There's a teddy inside the fenced back area of the prison and because he was slowly walking towards me, naturally I had to gift him a shot from my flare gun in the face. He ran away, I continued up the rope to explore the cell blocks, met with what was formerly known as Mathis and then went back outside, ready to face the bear again or shoot him for dinner - but he was nowhere to be found, not inside the prison complex, not outside, neither dead nor alive. It's as if a single flare shot has erased him from the face of the earth. Is this another bug?
  19. I have tested this today on my Stalker run but only against wolves. With the wolf cloak, deer pants, rabbit mittens, other premium cloths and the vest I had 84% protection. When fighting the wolf with a knife I've got a sprained ankle or wrist, three times in a row but no condition loss. I then tried to fight the wolf with a revolver, first I didn't do anything for a few seconds and then I started hitting it. After the fight my head and I think my foot were bleeding and needed a bandage, condition loss was about 30% and I went into the same animation as after a bear fight, I also dropped some arrows during the fight. Without the vest I would've probably be down to 10% but it does not prevent bleeding, at least not if you don't fight back. Is it worth it? Nah, 6kg is a lot and it's much easier to deal with the beasts in another fasion without limiting yourself so much. On stalker and below you have guns, on interloper you have torches which act like a magic wand against wolves of any kind. Might be useful for a bear or moose fight but if one is careful, these fights can easily be avoided.
  20. Exactly this, probably one of the best reasons to visit any region on interloper. You can have the "peng" of the rifle/revolver, which introduces carefree (careless) travelling in modes without guns. Btw, has anyone tried to actually kill an animal with the noisemaker? When timed correctly one should be able to hit a deer or an unaware wolf. It leaves quite a stain on the ground so I wonder if it's possible to hand-granate some dinner too
  21. Hinterland should have known that releasing two regions which are abbreviated the same way will break the internet But I agree with stmSantana, BRM makes the most sense and I will from now on use BRM for Blackrock Mountain.
  22. Thanks for sharing! I hope that someone from hinterland watches this too, I don't think wolves/timberwolves are supposed to behave like that. The "excercising" wolf is clearly a bug (which I had too) but a wolf which is just standing there after throwing a torch seems to be bugged too. Not to mention the timberwolves, this makes an encounter quite trivial.
  23. You're right, I forgot about them.
