  1. Wow! Those pictures look like stills from the The Long Dark movie, you should apply as a set designer
  2. That is actually not true as I found out later, when I left the cave there was a pack of Timberwolves near the cars on the road. They were a blessing in disguise though, there's a nearby cliff which they can't reach and it was easy enough to kill them all for ~30kg of meat. Another pack jumped me while I was walking through a blizzard from the farm to Cutty's Cave, carrying raw meat and I had to scare them off with some noise makers and also drop the meat. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the meat the next day. But I found another pack near Foreman's clearcut and managed to get 4 out of 5 from them. The funny thing is, even a week after I killed the last wolf, when one of the remaining Timberwolves sees me from like 100m away, it runs away quickly as hell, even when I have raw meat packed on me. Guess I've become the Apex Predator now Cutty's Cave has another surprisingly handy feature which makes it one of the best places to stay in all TLD, for sure in Blackrock where the weather is always harsh and you start freezing after 20-30 minutes out in the cold. Firewood does not respawn as quickly as I'd like and I have to take longer hikes to get wood and/or harvest animals without a fire, meaning my condition often drops to 50% or lower. But thanks to the rope nearby that's hardly an issue. One, two climbs and I am completely exhausted, able to sleep for 12h straight and almost completely regain my lost condition. This rope prolongs the time I can stay outside without warming up by a huge amount, it's a true gamechanger. Day 42, 58 more to go
  3. Welcome to the forum, you came to the right place. I think the days are definitely over where games are only played by young teenagers because those boys & gals are now well in their forties, me and many others here in the forum included Stalker has actually more predators spawned that can jump scare you than Interloper, but then, you don't have a gun or revolver to scare them back on loper. One of the many appealing aspects of TLD is that everyone can play it the way one wants and there is no "better" or "lesser" way to play it because people are playing the game for different reasons. I am happy with Interloper because Stalker became too easy and loper has just the right amount of difficulty for me. For others, even that is too easy and they play NOGOA or deadman challenges and others just want to enjoy the scenery and have clocked hundreds of hours in Pilgrim. The most important part though is: no zombies, it's you against the wild and that is another aspect of TLD that sets it apart from almost all other survival games. But give story mode a try, they struggled a bit with ep1 and parts of ep2 but the story telling really picks up in ep3 and it's worth to get some background of the locations we use to roam for many hours in survival mode. And it's not pure click&point story either, you still have to survive like in sandbox on Voyageur difficulty but with some context. If you are looking for a fun challenge to play the game and use the resources you have at hand without the need for mods, try staying for 100 days on every map without leaving it, idealy on interloper. This will let you learn and appreciate the maps in a new way and makes long runs much less boring because you can't just settle in and be done with it. And in case you missed that, hinterland announced new payed content for sandbox with a game/season pass style payment which many are very excited about, me included. Not sure if this will start this year already but next year for sure, this will bring many sandbox players back I think.
  4. First off I can confirm that days spend outside the prison do count but not inside the prison - I think this is a bug, I've reported it. The Cave on the lake was no luck, no moose or any other big game in the vicinity. So I went to Cook's Farm and there were 4 deers waiting for me. The farm itself is not ideal because you need a constant fire and there's little firewood but one can make it to Cutty's Cave while carrying meat without crossing paths with any predators and there's lots of firewood. Guess that's my base for the next few weeks.
  5. I feared as much, I'll look for a different base and see if they start increasing again. Any tips? Bricklayer's would be an obvious choice but there's no cave nearby to ward-off cabin feaver. I think I'll settle in the cave near the frozen lake outside the prison, if luck will have it I might get a moose to spawn too.
  6. Dang seems my game is bugged - the counter for days spend in blackrock just stopped increasing, I must be beyond day 25 but it still shows day 17. The total days survived counter does increase, the days just don't count towards blackrock. Anyone else experienced this? That's a real bummer, I don't know yet how or if this can be fixed.
  7. Day 20 at the prison, 80 more to go. So far I could avoid the timber wolves by going right to Bricklayer's Retreat and then to the prison via the bear's cave. Now I'm camping and exploring from there, waiting for the bear or a moose spawn. I'm also wearing the ballistic vest though while exploring just to be safe. And it payed already, I was luring a wolf with meat on me, missed the shot and went into a struggle, thanks to the vest I came out relatively unharmed with only some damaged cloths and bloodloss. It's a different challenge which basically comes down to finding the best spot to camp on every map and then do something for 100 days to not get bored. It feels more like the tv show Alone than anything else I've done in TLD, especially season 7 where they had to stay in one place for 100 days to win - I'm now doing 12 seasons of Alone
  8. I've eaten moose and bear meat (both in a moose park in sweden) and as kids we ate dry cat- and dog food. But to be honest, if I were truly hungry I'd eat anything that doesn't poison me. Just look at the participant's dieds in the tv show Alone, some lived days on mice, snails, beach combed fish, kelp, seaweed, beaver, muskrats and wolverine, the last three catches were considered a jackpot. So yeah, if one is hungry, anything that puts calories into the body goes.
  9. Witaj! This thread inspired me and I am following in your footsteps, sort of. I've already spend over 100 days in AC and in TWM on my +400 day interloper run and I am now on my way to blackrock - let's meet at the prison and exchange stories
  10. To see that survival mode will be constantly expanded is the best news I've read in a long time. I am super excited about that and the fact that we can finally somewhat reward you for your work hopefully also means that you can dedicate more resources into the expansions. I've several long-term survivors who ran out of things todo, just camping at one site and they can't wait to explore new regions
  11. Yes I think so too - and anyone claming that survival is harder than camping, cleary has never been camping with two or more kids for several weeks
  12. What's wrong with camping? Asking for a friend.
  13. I remember goating down the Ravine from the trainbridge to the basin when the Ravine Basin wasn't introduced yet. That was kinda cool, I felt like a true explorer Generally I don't have an issue with it and I do it quite often. We should be able to throw down stuff anyways and if I'm too heavy to climb down the rope, I goat. The real challenge is getting up a rope and there is no goating around that, as it should be.
  14. Water purification tables and the flashlight. If I have time to to melt snow I most likely also have the time to boil it and I don't travel during auroras often enough to keep the flashlight in my pack. Next useless item is probably the antiseptic, I might pick a bottle in the very early game but it gets switched out for old man beard dressings pretty quickly. The only use I ever had for stone caches are to glitch up steep slopes but I guess that's not their intendend use
  15. DP (on interloper) simply because it has the least risk of running into a wolf and has warm beds nearby. FM is quite the opposite, it's tricky (but doable) to not run into a wolf pack and you need a constant fire to not freeze while sleeping, thus wasting valuable fire resources. On anything but interloper I don't have a preference, FM works as well as DP. I never went to BR though with the specific goal to forge something.
  16. No the back of caves is not considered indoor when it comes to Cabin Fever.
  17. I didn't mean to offend you it's just that what you described seemed to be so different from what I or others in this thread experience. My 800d stalker survivor has ~120 matches packed on him and at least 3-400 scattered among bases plus a dozen firestriker. To be fair though, my game is 100% explored and faithfull cartographer achieved, with every car checked. But then you write you have 250 matches left plus a few firelighters? I thought you were down to a few dozens but with 250 matches plus firestriker and mag glas I don't know what you are worrying about. Chances are higher that a wolf will eat you eventually than that you run out of matches if you start to use them a bit more conservatively from now on. Speaking about wolves, if your main strategy to deal with them are torches then yes you will use more matches. My strategy is to first avoid them completely and when it's not possible to go around them I shoot a shot from the revolver to scare them away (on stalker) and pick up the shell. I still have 73 revolver- and 48 rifle bullets left so it's not a big waste. I only use torches for wolves occasionally on interloper but as they are not 100% reliable either I try to avoid wolves as best I can.
  18. Top notch! You could put some sticks below the hides for added insulation but it sure looks very comfy
  19. Yes as said, whetstones are only on interloper an issue. I don't know what you did that matches are a problem on your stalker run, on my >800d stalker I have so many matches that I don't even pick them up anymore. On stalker you have to be very wasteful to run out of anything below d1000, almost purposely.
  20. Im at day day 375 on interloper and don't fear to run out of matches any time soon. It's all about management, don't start a fire for every wolf but first hunt all the meat you need, then make the fire, cook all in one go and don't forget to also boil lots of water. When I barbecue a bear or moose I usually cook half of it on two fireplaces and the rest on one, while on the other I boil water. If you want to travel with torches, chain them together so you only need to waste a match on one. And the mag glass is also very useful for indoor places. Just gather 2-3 sticks, light a fire outside with the mag glass and then pull a torch out of it which you can use to start the fire inside/cave/fishing hut. If it's overcast, don't barbecue but wait for a better day, plan accordingly. Basically, treat every match as if it would be your last. About your first question - and this is only true on my current interloper - the first thing I ran out are wetstones. Because there are no hatchets and knives to be found, I have to sharpen my crafted tools and it takes quite a toll, to bring a hatchet from 50% to 100% takes 50% off the wetstone and I haven't found many. Next I will probably run out of cloth which will force me to check out the last places I want to go, BI, BRailRoad and probably some other houses in CH and MT which I left alone on my last visit out of fear of running into a wolf. Or maybe I'll decide to spend my last days just in animal clothing in Miner's Folly, there I don't really need a bedroll nor underwear
  21. Probably the aliens responsible for the geomagnetic event which caused all this.
  22. I've ran into one there once while escaping from the darkwalker lol. It wasn't by the loading area though but uphil the frozen river below the two trailers. But it was also the only time I've ever seen a Moose there.
  23. Yes it seems to be a bit random, I could scare off many wolves by just standing there with a torch in hand, even from a deer it was eating. Othertimes I got attacked after a few seconds. Not sure if dropping the torch and switching to a weapon would've made a difference. However when I was packing meat I was attacked almost immediately with a torch in hand, when you smell the behaviour seems to be differently.
  24. The first thing I do when someone calls me because of any laptop/PC problem is deinstalling the antivir software if they are using any, no matter if paid or free. It was necessary before Windows 10 no doubt but defender on windows 10/11 is one of the strongest defense against virus and malware. Btw the same goes for any firewall software, the windows firewall is pretty strong and easily configured. I am no fan of micro$oft by any means but when it comes to securing their system they finally did their job, took them only 30 years But still question every link that was send to you and don't click mindlessly on it - phishing attacks are still possible no matter what you use
  25. This is still happening at mountaineers hut and other places. Limbs are popping in and out of existence. I leave the hut, no limbs: Then I walk a few meters and turned around, abracadabra simsalabim, some cedar limbs magically reappeared: This is repeatable, whenever I go into the hut and out again, the limbs are gone, when I then walk a few meters and turn around, they are back. @Admin are you aware of that, has this been already filled as a bug? I couldn't find anything related to that in the knowledge db. This is on Windows PC/Steam version.
