ThePancakeLady
Wintermute does not get enough love here, IMHO. And it is just as beautiful visually as Survival Mode. On my third playthrough on Steam now, hoping to finally get the one achievement I keep missing. So, we begin again... Cariboo... Neither of them looks happy... Astrid awaits... what to take, what to take? Sure. Lets go flying into the great unknown, in this weather... What could go wrong? I just loved the lighting and reflections here... No, really. What could go wrong? An iconic symbol... Family... "And the crow once called the raven black." ~ George R.R. Martin I wonder what her name was, every time I see her there, in either game mode... “Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.” ~ Mark Twain 2

(Very cool, though!) Long range direct hit with the flare gun..and I think it's specifically a long range critical hit, since I've had direct hits that inflict a bleeding injury, but the flare drops to the ground instead of getting stuck in the animal. The flare gun is a guaranteed scare even if you miss. On a normal direct hit, it inflicts a bleeding injury that--moose notwithstanding--is eventually fatal. A point blank critical hit on a wolf is an instant kill. (I've never insta-killed anything other than a wolf with the flare gun so I don't know if it can't be done, or if I'm just not lucky.) A long range critical hit the flare gets stuck in the animal and allows you to kind of easily keep tabs on it as it runs around. It's actually pretty difficult to accomplish with a wolf, since they present such a small target at range, and the flare gun fires at an arc necessitating that you aim the flare gun in a way that it blocks your view of the very thing you're trying to hit.

JujuBear
One of my memorable moments playing the game. Was able to reach the summit for the first time. I got there just in time to catch this spectacular view! Just soaked it all in the entire night before I looted the cargo plane in the morning. ThePancakeLady
Wintermute screenshots... trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. And thoroughly enjoying this third time through on Steam, 5th time through (2 XBox One plays done as well). A nice change from the craziness of Survival Mode. Gotta find all the notes and all the caches again. Game looks just as beautiful. I can't wait for my new rig to get done being assembled and shipped, so i can see this all again in higher settings. 1

Yeah, these were from the Steam version of the game, since I almost never take or share screenshots from XBox One. And I run the game at 1360 x 768, on mixed Medium-High settings, because my PC is 6+ year old mid-grade build toaster, and that is the res and aspect ratio that works best for my 6+ year old display monitor as well. Steam has a feature with the Steam Overlay, that in select games you can capture an HD version of the shot, not sure what res it uses, to be honest. Hinterland may be able to answer that question better than I can by just guessing. So by using this Steam Overlay feature, I can save higher quality screenshots to my desktop instead of the lower quality screenshots that it saves to the remote folder on the PC. You will rarely, if ever, see me post a screenshot from the XBox One version of the game, simply because Steam makes it faster and easier to use for me, and sharing them is a real PITA on a Windows 7 computer (Windows 10 is much easier, but still not intuitive...). And you already know the issues with getting HUDless screenshots on either console.
