  1. Not really, it doesn't require a lot of initial displacement to get a pendulum going, the size of the effect is dependent on the length of the chain once it's got going. If you hold a pendulum on a long thread and try to hold it perfectly still, it will still move quite a bit.
  2. Yeah, there are actual design and gameplay decisions to be made that's for sure. But bad accessibility is a game-breaking bug that is also discriminatory, so it mandates all that thoughtful hard work under high priority.
  3. I'm only using scrap aluminium for my arrowheads from now on!
  4. Air movement effects would be negligible, but it's going to be affected by whatever movements of the hangar where it's attached: it's being buffetted by epically strong winds that it almost certainly was not designed for, I'm sure it's shaking enough to set up a pendulum swing. The noisiness of the hangar in strong winds is an indication of how much it's moving. It doesn't take that much.
  5. They really should. Ideally to be replaced with a version that's accessible, not just removed as a mechanic - that's not equal access! I'm hoping that they are looking into doing this and doing it well, and that the epilepsy warning wasn't the end of it.
  6. Or a magnetic anomaly, which we know we do have in TLD, though usually only in the form of atmospheric activity. For it to be gravity it would have to be a pretty high difference in gravity coming from a very specific spot, and that would affect a lot more than just a swinging bucket. As would the magnetism! The arc of the swing looks about right for the length of the chain (and Earth gravity) - I'm sure it's a very basic thing for a physics engine to get right. It just might be a bit too long for the space it's in so it's janked a bit instead of having it hit the wall.
  7. If I tried that, that would immediately become my new answer to what has scared me the most. Terrifying!
  8. The time I was most scared, in a slightly different way, was the time I was on a ledge halfway through a climb and then couldn't click on the mountaineering rope, couldn't find the clicker-thingy anywhere. It's happened a couple of times and I thought I was a goner both times.Picturing myself stranded powerless on a rock and freezing into the long dark. I did eventually find the right pixel both times and got away ok, but I was so scared I'd lost my runs.
  9. Patch notes: · Fixed bug where ptarmigan behaviour was too closely mimicking real ptarmigan behaviour @Admin Are you sure the ptarmigan code hasn't gained sentience and evolved into a more accurate ptarmigan?
  10. That was my understanding too. I read that on the Wikipedia page and the sources seem to be these: from an interview in 2013, and from a Gamasutra article the same year. That's not great evidence; has anyone got an example of Raph saying more directly that Great Bear is based on Vancouver Island? The flora and fauna all check out for Vancouver Island, and there are a few hits on Google maps for things called Great Bear on the island! The official location is "the Northern wilderness". Is Vancouver Isand considered Northern in a Canadian context? I'm guessing it's probably not directly based on anywhere very specific.
  11. Amazing! These snowy lil guys are so darn cute I had assumed it wasn't deliberate because this was the first time I'd seen it, despite many many hours in the game since they were first fixed to be on Custom, and because it was two nests both in the same region, one I'd not visited since before ptarmigans were introduced. But if you're saying that this is something that ptarmigans do all over and I just didn't notice till now - very plausible! - then yes it could be deliberate for sure. The coincidence of consistent clipping in the snow but only of an animal that clips under the snow IRL is quite a big one. They look just the same! I'm now fascinated to know if it was deliberate or not. Shall we ask @Admin?
  12. I'm so excited, like Christmas excited. Figuratively counting the days
  13. Looks like a mini Loch Ness monster
  14. These ptarmigans in Blackrock are having a relaxing bathe in the snow: [no sound] Screencast-2023-11-14-2217_fixed.mp4 I saw other ptarmigan clipping beneath the snow at a different nest in Blacrock too, and I confirm that if you shoot one beneath the snow, the carcass and arrow will jump up and sit properly on top of the snow so they are not lost.
  15. This is on the fan wiki, any help? https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Cooking#Frontier_Cooking
  16. Something like a flu requires other humans to pass the virus. I think hypothermia covers all that kind of illness for me.
  17. Blackrock Prison Don't know why some of these aren't high-res, sorry about that.
  18. So much money! That's why I get so excited by the new features, especially new maps. Langston Mine HYPE!!
  19. I've got there, been there 2 days and I think I've had 3 blizzards. None of that lovely picturesque weather I had in Coastal and Pleasant Valley. Wish me luck, survivors!
  20. I thought about Blackrock Prison merch, but I thought it would raise questions that I don't want to answer!
  21. I'm an absolute sucker for merch that looks like merch of the fictional brands in the game. The current merch has a few tings, like the Jackrabbit Transport merch, Milton Town T-shirt, and Big Moose Kicks coffee mug. I'd have a T-shirt or whatever with North Star Charters, Mystery Lake tours, Go! Energy, Trans-Island Railway, etc, etc. What other brands or organisations are there that would work?
