  1. Leanda doesn’t appear to know arctic botany. Thats ok though- most people are unaware of flora and fauna biology in arctic conditions. Given the conditions the game presents, The rose hips in the game ARE dead. Still harvestable though. That’s why they don’t grow back. Let’s keep it real. You can’t grow plants given the conditions represented in the game. It’s science- can’t argue it unless you want to pull the old “it’s just a game card”. Hey in that case let’s grow coconuts and mangos!!! We can add a “science” skill and at level 5 you find a CRISPR kit and genetically engineer tropical fruits to grow in arctic conditions. ROTFLMAO.
  2. Ok. And how are you going to water them?? Stay there for weeks just to grow a few plants for 150 calories??? Why not just beachcomb?
  3. Congrats to the devs on finally taking my 1200 day interloper character in the new region. Played the first day region opened and took about 2 days game time to find the entrance - saw in the intro it was accessible through a “cave system in TWM” and I figured an add on to existing system - clearly not. Well played there, devs. I was expecting much less of a challenge seeing as how I played the region already in wintermute- I generally love the thrill of bringing my character into a new region without maps or anything just to test my survivability (for example- Ash Canyon when it first came out and I discovered the hard way all the caves were cold initially. THAT was a dramatic survival event!!) But I figured Blackrock would be fairly easily conquered not being new to me since I played twice on wintermute - but I must say the devs did a great job varying the map- I definitely got caught off guard discovering the bridge was out to the mine. Brilliant. Had to scramble to make a temporary camp as I was banking on shelter and food at the mine but survived that surprise as well as the surprise bear at blackrock- that was a close call for sure as I never saw that coming. Ultimately I got the workshop code from the mine and then camped at blackrock for 6 days waiting for an aurora that never came. Running low on fuel to stave of cabin fever, I finally decided to kill time venturing out to the only part of the map I didn’t explore yet in over 15 days in the region, and once I arrived at the substation, sure enough the aurora finally started. I bolted back to the prison eager to finally access the workshop but alerted a pack of timber wolves. In a major lapse of cognitive process being so excited to get to blackrock, I totally forgot that aurora wolves ignore fire. I realized the trouble I was in when they had no hesitation attacking me through my camp fire and I ran back to the substation with my health in the red. I though about using a stim (my first one in the 1268 day run) but the door was right there. Soon as I went to open the door, character stumbled backwards right into a Timberwolf ending his epic run of almost a year in real life. Almost feels like a death in the family- but I have to say- well played Devs. You guys may not know the basics of pressure dynamics to allow for intellectual and logical puzzle solving, but you designed an amazing region that was my favorite experience to date playing the game even if it ended tragically. That’s Ok though- my 628 day loper is up for redemption.
  4. Ummmmm…. It’s constant winter 40 below since the aurora. How are these plants going to grow exactly?
  5. Finally!! I have always stated interloper players have no valid reason to go to BI and one way around that would be ability to repair crampons. Huge improvement and long awaited. Not to crazy about the ballistic vest though- seems even more unnecessary than spray paint. Seems like such an incredibly arbitrary concept of all the possible arctic- survival-relevant additions the game could potentially have. What’s next- a chain mail helmet? I am sure most players will appreciate the noisemakers but there is no way an interloper is wasting a precious match on a noisemaker- absolutely no value for skilled players but I can see the appeal for stalker and below.

  7. There is absolutely no need for a crossbow once skilled with the bow. New ideas, not duplicative ideas, is the best strength of the game design. Plus why would you just “find” crossbow bolts lying around??? If they make a crossbow, the bolts should have to be crafted. But they shouldn’t. There are much more basic survival necessities and skills that would be far more practical that the game lacks.
  8. I play deadman challenges and currently playing episode 4 at the hardest level just seeing how long I can survive.
  9. Incorrect. Changing the item decay has a serious Impact because you are more likely to find good clothing because it isn’t ruined by the time you find it. Come on bruh.
  10. Nope. Interloper when starting with a bedroll and having Guns is stalker regardless of your wolf and loot setting. Interloper with anything easier is hardly interloper. What make interloper hard is the start. Make that easier, it’s not interloper it’s just a harder stalker.
  11. The difference between Interloper and custom is when you make even one setting easier it is stalker not interloper.
  12. I honestly don’t even bother with the wolf coat in interloper. Total waste of time. Just go right for double bear. I used to use bear/moose because of the added protection from moose exterior but it turns out the cold protection is far far more valuable and the bear coat has great protection anyway. You are more likely to stay at higher health status from better cold protection with double bear which beats protection from moose coat while lower on health. Also on deadman there is no way around it - double bear is essential for maximizing deadman since you can’t take cold damage at all. But in any case the wolf coat is an absolutely waste of time in interloper and above.
  13. That’s what voyageur level is. Really in any level other than interloper it doesn’t matter if a wolf attacks you once you have clothing. They hit like marshmallows and almost never damage clothing and it can be repaired easily. Don’t worry about wolves on the easy levels- you don’t need to adjust attacking settings.
  14. Yes it is accessible. Simply head to the fire and try to adhere as much as possible to the rocks on the left side of the shrub patch, climbing up the rock wall as far as you can and just shimmy across. you can actually go right over the shrubs. You may have to sprint slightly to jump across the gap in the wall but it is easily done. For the southern fire, you probably already found out but it’s a one-way to the signal fire without a hatchet so you have to bring a rope to climb down to moose overlook.
  15. There is no debate about it. HRV is the easiest start far and away. Whether that means it’s the best start is subjective but it is the easiest. There is no other zone in the game where you can leave the zone with every single one of the essential items and top of the line interloper clothing and within just an hour and a half of game play at that. The hardest zone is DP because of the lack of cattails. I generally leave there in the first day to get to CH which is one of the easier interloper maps
  16. Comes down to : Some people like camping simulation, others like survival simulation.
  17. 2 days. Secret to speed is Coffee coffee coffee.
  18. Never feel sorry for the enlightened. Those in the dark always see themselves in the light. Read up on Plato. You are unable to discern the shadows in the cave while I am the fire. Keep playing camping mode lol. Make some s’mores and maybe get a taser gun for “fun” rotflmao Stay basic.
  19. Never feel sorry for the enlightened. Those in the dark always see themselves in the light. Read up on Plato. You are unable to discern the shadows in the cave while I am the fire. Maybe you should just learn science instead of complaining about others talking about things you don’t understand?
  20. Nope. There are two things at play. The fact that scrapbooking is stupid in a survival situation and explaining why an electronic camera would be incompatible with the hypothetical antagonist of the aurora effect. Don’t be emotional. Be logical.
  21. Just because you don’t understand the discussion does not make it irrelevant to those who do. It’s a theoretical discussion, not a real life comparison. The disclaimer isn’t even relevant here. The disclaimer references inaccuracy of survival tactics in the game, not inaccuracies of natural phenomena. Smart stuff going on here for those who understand the physics.
  22. Started with voyageur and first few runs if I did 10 days I was happy. I remember originally always being way overweight with food because I hoarded it like a mule until I realized there is literally food everywhere so there is no need to stockpile it. Went right to stalker then and found it wasn’t that much harder than voyageur so went right to interloper and died all the time again and again and again and again. I didn’t know the jump from stalker to interloper is 1000X greater than from pilgrim to stalker. so I went back to stalker as an easy way to master the maps and then when I got the map knowledge secured, I was able to survive interloper if I got to the forge early enough but if i didn’t get to forge within 12 days I usually ran out of supplies. After that Every early interloper run was nothing more than a desperate struggle with food the entire time where either I made it to the forge and could live for hundreds of days or a surprise wolf attack ended the run before I got to the forge. Now I don’t even worry about the forge or food. Depending on where I spawn I might go in 7 days or I might go in 30 days but once I do the forge run, the game is over- I can live indefinitely once I get that bow.
  23. The thing is, the aurora as described in the game is NOT an EMP. It is proposed to have caused a permenant disruption in the earth’s magnetic polarity causing inability for there to be amperage because there is no longer attraction of electrons to anodes. It basically stopped ability for current flow, as opposed to an EMP that generates a high voltage destroying the electronics. The recurrence of the aurora is proposed to have an inconsistent generation of magnetic field that supposedly allows for amperage. The concept is ridiculous but at least somewhat consistent.
