  1. Day 1 , Attempt 1 I start right beside two things. The entrance cave to TWM and a lovely dead corpse beside a hatchet (I hope that does not prophesise the outcome to this attempt). The weather is far from desirable, foggy, snowy and slightly windy. I begin heading down the canyon, hoping to find some form of shelter before the possible blizzard. Nothing interesting really happens as I begin the walking simulator that is TLD (Not that I'm complaining. I quite enjoyed it) Not the worst start, though also not the best I head out and find the Engine. I reluctantly pass the cedar limbs and crates, aware of my hypo risk. I will have to come back later. See you later, hopefully After somehow getting turned around once, I head down the second canyon, coming across a snowy cave, full of vital things for my expedition, and a campfire. A little hard to see but there was a bunch of fir firewood, a hunting knife and food My hypo risk past 40%, I decide to start up a fire to sleep through the night. I waste two matches and accelerant before it finally gets burning. Then I throw the firewood on the fire and harvest a few branches nearby until it gets impossible to see. Then I hunker down and prepare for a fitful night's sleep. Day 2 Dawn comes, eventually, with a blizzard on the way. I am now fully rested, and so reluctantly keep burning through the fir and cedar firewood. I rarely travel during dawn, waiting until around midday to evade the bitterly cold weather. I sleep and boil a litre of water, heading out into the minus twenties. Mercifully, the heavy wind and snow had lessened a great deal and despite the cold, travel was rather easy. Due to my slow reflexes, I managed to stun a rabbit three times before finally snapping ones neck. I consider getting its friend, but I don't want to be bombarded by predators this early on. I keep going, wasting several matches as I try, and fail, to start a quick fire. All too aware of the dwindling supply of matches, I pick of the pace, relieved when the sun shines through the snowy clouds and it finally stops snowing. Just when I was beginning to wonder if it ever stopped snowing in this alpine region. I find the wing, and a bunch of birch bark which I gladly take, along with a few sticks. So far, I think to myself, this is going pretty well. I begin running again, gathering sticks as I go, relieved to find that I am not too far from the hut. However, a small problem occurs: Mr. Bear taking a lovely selfie My condition falling fast, I stagger drunkenly in the direction of a fishing hut, freezing and starving. I try to start a fire as a last attempt to warm myself up. It failed, and so I tried a second time, struggling to save myself. My last words were 'Come on, little fire' as I faded into the long dark. Time for Attempt 2!
  2. The title sums it up really, though a little extra information before I begin documenting. I often don't take enough screenshots during a playthrough but I'm working on that I play on Custom Voyager with the usual wildlife spawn rates and whatnot and near interloper style weather, however I'm sticking to classic Voyager due to this being my first time trying to scale TWM, and I also want to get feat progress due to it all being lost a few weeks ago for some reason. (Along with a 15+ day save that I'm still salty about losing) I will be documenting this whilst I play usually, though sometimes after, so it will be fresh in my mind. I would greatly appreciate any help during this, and please bear with me as I play, as I know that I am light years away from being the best player in TLD. My first few goes will probably be pretty awful and short, but I'm hoping that I will do it eventually. Not sure when I'll begin my mini challenge, but I look forward to starting it and I'll be sure to document it when I begin.
  3. I absolutely love sunrises and sunsets in TLD, and I often find myself watching them for some time. Though sunrises are often, at least in my main setting, -30 or more degrees, and sunsets lead to dusk with pretty awful visibility at times. I love them, and I dread them at the same time, haha. Great screenshots by the way!
  4. Glad to finally see another who prefers Voyager, haha. I also prefer the whole exploration and mild survival aspect of it to the harsh Interloper setting (plus, I'm nowhere near good enough to try that mode yet, haha) I had a similar experience on one of my first attempts of TLD where I thought that revolvers were like rifles, and tried to shoot a bear. Long story short, it didn't like it 😂 Anyways, nice story! I'm glad that moose didn't totally ruin the save
  5. My goodness, I had no idea that TLD had such a talented community! I hope to add a few of my own sketches to this topic someday, though they seem inferior to all of these. I love how they are all so different, even if they are about the same game, and they all have different styles. I could go on about each of them but I don't wish to bore anyone. Don't mind me whilst I gaze enviously at these drawings.
  6. So, I love drawing, especially snowy landscapes like TLD, though there are far too many good places that I can draw and I can't choose. Everything in the game is too tempting to draw. That is why I would like somebody to give me an idea of what TLD thing to draw, or a screenshot that I could copy. I'd greatly appreciate any ideas and I'd try drawing them as soon as I could. Just thought that I'd add that I draw using shades of grey, and so I might struggle with sunsets/rises, though if you want me to suffer, feel free to send me a sunset/rise screenshot or idea!
  7. Crashed in a geomagnetic storm, The aurora alight in the sky, The plane is damaged beyond repair, No way is it gonna fly. I search and search for shelter, "Great, a blizzard." I cry, I've only just started up the game, And I'm already going to die What place am I in? I try to recall, Brilliant, it's Bleak Inlet, Death is definitely imminent, And I've not even gone anywhere yet! Timberwolves at my tail, Condition at 35, I stagger away from the Cannery, No way am I gonna survive, Bleeding, freezing and nearly dead, A timber jumps me, what a shame, 'You died of blood loss and shock' I read, Then start up a brand new game Basically a poem of how my second attempt in BI went. I started on Random. It didn't end well, as you can see.
  8. This is probably a really silly question, but how do you reach the Mysterious Signal Fire? It's tauntingly close, but when I've climbed up and crossed over a few tree bridges, I can't see any way to reach it. I would appreciate some help on how to get there, as that's been my main goal during my last few playthroughs.
  9. I feel a little stupid now. I had read it, but still wondered if I could use it through gamepass. Thanks, though!
  10. I play TLD via gamepass, and was wondering if I would still be able to access the time capsule. This is probably a rather silly question, and I doubt that I can, but I thought that I'd ask, just in case.
  11. Hm, once I killed and quartered a deer in PV before heading back to the barn nearby to sleep as another blizzard was approaching, forgetting to grab my deer quarters. I came out the next day, and couldn't find it. Thankfully, during a brief expedition, I found it again a few days later, but that's the last time I'll make that mistake! (I hope) Bedrolls are also a pain. When I'm not even in a rush, they get forgotten. In the same PV run, I was sleeping outside when another blizzard hit, near whiteout standards. I stumbled towards the barn nearby, as I was sleeping outside for some reason or another. I eventually found it, my lantern nearly out of fuel. I got in and searched for a hay bed. Couldn't find one, so I grabbed my bedroll. One problem.. I rushed outside into the blizzard, hopelessly lost, and somehow found my bedroll and managed to get back in the barn with over 50% hypo risk, despite my clothing. It was disheartening to see, after the blizzard, that the long, painful walk was a few meters, in the clear morning. I've also had a habit of losing the can that you get in the early game. Pretty irritating, especially in sparse regions where those sort of things don't come easily. And that's just a few that I can remember 😂
  12. @ApplesauceI have already gained a revolver and 20+ bullets, and it was pretty handy during a struggle. My shooting skill still leaves much to be desired and only made a wolf charge, but hey, I'll improve! And thanks for the tips, they'll definitely come in handy. @manolitodeI'll make sure to loot the plane first! I'll possibly make a new topic documenting what happens if I can be bothered. I'll make sure to keep you updated on here at least!
  13. @manolitodeI was too lazy to document it, but I began in Voyager, just to gain confidence before advancing to higher difficulties. Where I left off, I was in PV, six days in, pretty warm, encumbered, exhausted, nearly dead from two wolves intent on my demise, and lost in the farm, seeking refuge in a barn. Thank the lord for hay beds! Aside from the wolves, it's going decently! I'll be heading on to TWM in a week or so, in game! And thanks, again, for the help! Can't wait to climb to the summit
  14. Much thanks, @manolitode! One question, is there wildlife around the summit and on the mountain. I have never seen any, as I have only tried before on Voyager-Pilgrim difficulty.
  15. The title sums it up, haha. During my realism challenge, I'm going to set a goal to reach the summit. It will be a slow run, depending on how difficult it is to climb. I've never gotten close to climbing before, so even simple tips are useful! My style of playing will basically be Loper weather and supplies, and then Voyager with animal hostility (though of course no grace periods because they make it easier) Any help is greatly appreciated!
  16. unfortunately this story has come to an end after I gained hypothermia, lost a bedroll, and threw a rock at a bear's bottom (no regrets) However, I am starting a new attempt here, later, with a twist. I decided to set a goal, and do something that I have never thought about before. Try climb TWM. I'm setting up a new topic soon for strategies, as I've heard that it's difficult to do, so feel free to help out! Who knows, maybe I'll stop dying of sheer stupidity. Also, the challenge will be modified to Interloper on all but animal hostility which will be around Voyager difficulty. It'll be hard, but I need to improve!
  17. Haha, they hate me as well. I threw a rock at one's bottom back when I first started playing and now most of my runs encounter bears. Thus why I fear going to the Mountaineers Hut, as so many times I get jumped whilst gathering cattails.
  18. I've been tempted to give one of the challenges a try, and wondered what you all like the most and why.
  19. Did you know that bears can definitely get up that slope that you thought was safe and jumpscare you when your back is turned? Safe to say that I did not
  20. For me, it's probably Intense cold in the early game, such as a blizzard, or just very a freezing temp Bear attack. They are unlikely to kill me straight on, in early game when I have fullish condition and it is often the lack of bandages, antibiotics or their wild variants. Especially early on in the game, though it occasionally happens in the later game. Typically I get jumped by the one in DP right after leaving the whaling place, just to find the bear almost literally right beside the stairs or entrance. Mountain goating (aka a stupid way of descending ropeless cliffs) I crouch and try decend steep cliffs, and I find it easy to get stuck in the bit below the lighthouses in DP and the ravine canyon site in TWM, the one that leads to the plane crash, if my memory works correctly)
  21. I hope to never meet this Norman when he's wielding a bow!
  22. I'm really enjoying reading through peoples' favourites. I'm rather pleased to see that Timberwolf Mountain is a popular choice. (I thought I was one of the minority for preferring wilder places 😅)
  23. Im glad that it's back! I look forward to more of Norman's adventures
