  1. Ah, ok....well even on stalker, never had that happen. I was always on the lookout for something/anything....Think Iv hit those crates 3 or 4 times, nadda….Might throw down a pilgrim run soon, my last loper just died. x.x
  2. I like this idea, would make trips across the map much more doable. "Got my wolf coat, deer pants, bearskin bedroll, 30lb of jerky, and 50gallon of water.....lets roll"
  3. I kinda do that already. Its tricky, but if your overweight and want to climb down a rope, you can drop stuff to the ground waaaaaaay at the bottem of the rope. Agreed, needs some balancing, but would really make improvised knives much more useful than "just to quarter" with.
  4. An MRE? stim?? ear mitts????? I have never seen any of those there before. o.o
  5. You can put guns in places? I allways put em in the cupboard......might be a PC thing tho, Im on xbox.
  6. well crap, just bombed a 60 day loper run that was snowballing like an avalanche down a mountain....First timber wolf mountain loot, pleasant valley smack down, coastal highway run, desolation point forging, back to coastal, stuck around for a bit to toy with the bow and get back into the groove, then to ravine, but that's where it ended...First off, I screwed up and didn't bring a rope, so spidermaning my way down almost killed me, luckily Im still alive, got a pinch of life left, still able to walk straight, but Im getting hungry without supply and I need to get some firewood cut up to survive the storm that popped up. But then it happened, that one "no matter what happens, Im dead now." Got food poisoning from a bad can of peaches. I had antibiotics, so that was not a problem, but I was torn. Use two stims to try and cut up the cedar and fir to make it through the night, or just try and sleep it off......temp in the cave was good, 34F before I got into the bedroll, and I think it was an extra 5.4F? after that. Ontop of that it was middle of the night and the storm was beating down already, so I thought it was the worst it could get. Shoulda used the stim packs. Only thing I could think of when I died was "welp, Im going out commando style" I used the only pair of thermal underwear I seen in the entire run to build the snow shelter on day one on TWM. XD
  7. Im not exactly against this, would give you an upper hand on an incoming target and you don't have a projectile weapon, but I don't think the devs would include a tomahawk. Maybe a mini spear? Multiple choice crafting for birch saplings?
  8. Not too sure if you can use a human in this game, although a pack mule would be VERY useful! XD That seems to be the only thing that I would actually take with me....lightweight, nearly garneted instant fire, ok I got room for this. Iv hit those crates so many times, Iv never gotten anything out of them. =/

    shotgun??

I would suspect you are correct. While Im sure we have similar regions such as marsh, woods, plains. Most of the hunting around here is strictly in dense woods instead of open flats. Both deer and waterfowl is typically within 50-100 meters/yards. And yes, bow hunting here is also a strong tradition and even has deer seasons dedicated to bow hunters only in early fall and late winter. As for the shotty, yeah....Other than perhaps a looper only weapon to replace the rifle with more drawbacks than benefits, I can't really justify its existence where as the rifle already is implemented into the game and does a great job {when the frame rate doesn't tank or the aim acceleration throws you off target x.x} So even though a shotgun would seem to fit within the hinterland universe, sadly it will probably be a broken piece in this wonderful game. Iv seen some video's of people who own guns in Germany, and while it is possible, the amount of hurdles they throw at you is absolutely crazy! In fact if there was ever an apocalypse, Id probably buddy up with a law abiding gun owning German…...Never run out of toilet paper. XD
  10. Wow! Dude, that was almost as close as my encounter. Ill have to dig around on the xbox, do some uploading, but I was having problems with the weather AND cabin fever. Ran into a bear cave that I had already killed and decided to spend some time there. Tore up some clothing, worked on my clothing to help me out tank the weather, and then decided to tear apart a lantern. I start tearing it apart and all of a sudden, I get huffs and growls right ontop of my location and I freaked out and let the animation run its course...When I get done and I go back into inventory, I don't hesitate, I get out of inventory, whip out my flare gun, aim at nothing and look for my target. The bear is asleep less than a foot in front of me......I take my time, headshot, two bear skins from the same bear spawn. XD Will get the video tomorrow, if work doesn't shut me down.

    shotgun??

Crazy. Here on the other side of the border, we all got shotguns and "most" of the people I know have rifles....typically AR-15's, but also a cluster of custom bolt actions, .22 semi auto's, ect. ect. As for myself, just a couple shotties…..My first one I bought ever, my fathers 3 1/2in. 12 gauge, and a semi auto 12 gauge.
  12. Been trying to figure out where the best place to set up camp, don't think I can argue with this placement.....Was going to do the trailers on the northern end of the island, but its still a blank spot in my head......too many unknowns right now, don't wanna chance it till I know whats out there.
  13. As for cigarettes, I honestly doubt that would fly. Lots of anti tabaco right now, and I doubt the company would look into such a thing As for alcohol, I can see what your getting at here. The ability to ferment things into alcohol. Maybe more than just the peaches, maybe the mushrooms, birch bark, heck cattails even, can create useful styles of alcohol! Extremely easy to do in reality, but difficult to induce into the game.....I like the idea tho, alcohol could be good to have as a disinfectant, if you improve your distilling ability, you can improve the condition of alcohol you produce to the point where it could be used as a fuel to start fires faster or fuel your lantern, lots of things this could do and very useful in the post apocalyptic universe. However to be implemented into the game would require a lot of tools and work. For brutally simple alcohol production, yeah you could just get away with letting peaches cure, maybe adding a new item in game, yeast, to add to make it realistic, but right away we either add a new item to the game for one purpose, or just imagine that peaches ferment on their own. The more hardcore route would require a bunch of new tools implemented into the game, if not an entire work station. You would need a pot, a pressure cooker lid to fit the pot, copper line, some sort of adhesive to connect the pieces, and a collection pot. Last but not least, you would have to ensure the temperature would be fully controlled. At least for a makeshift still, honestly a whole work still station makes better sense, but with that said, other than fuel for the lamp, fires, or disinfectant, alcohol really doesn't have much use at all in the game. Even if it was to be consumed, its health risks far outweigh its benefits..... . In the end, alcohol and cigarettes will probably not be useful or wanted by a large percentage of the player base. As a gamer, I would not like it. As a mechanic, I want to get one of the trucks running! XD

    shotgun??

That's quite crazy. From what Iv looked up, owning a shotgun is a bit easier than a rifle in Canada, isn't it? EDIT: just took anouther look, apparently I am incorrect. However I do find it funny that the revolver is supposed to be restricted.

    shotgun??

Well Well my run in with grey mother left me with the impression that maybe some made it out, others didn't. I thought maybe you could find one that no one knew about, or was very well hidden. Then the hunters lodge.....I would have swore to the heavens just a cheap ole junk pump or something, but then I dug into the forums later and found out. x.x
  16. Moose is super decent loot, but I couldn't carry it all. XD So many times Iv tried to drag a moose out after quartering it, just to be ransacked by wolves....One time I knocked one down out by the barn in PV, I quartered it up just a blizzard broke open {typical PV weather}, almost dead from being frozen, I just ran to the barn, slept the night in the truck, woke up, hit some coffee, literally dropped everything, even my clothing! Ran out, grabbed the meat sacks {a wolf stole one just before I got there} and was still so far over weight that I could not run back. Sadly wolfy came back for seconds, and I didn't have fire starter or a weapon. x.x

    shotgun??

Trying to save room, so I squished the reply. 😛 OCD issues. Yeah, I think I hit the moose 4 or 5 times with the revolver. All but two was good shots, but she gets the job done. And I must agree, it is rather surprising the shotgun was forgone for a rifle...Must be a particular reason why. Admittedly because of those issues I pushed out there, it would be a rather difficult to accept the shotgun as a useful tool, or even as a "must have" tool to carry around. But Im just trying to think of some balancing properties. And I do agree with the flare gun not deterring the timber wolves. I remember camping on the stairs that went up to the lockout point/ranger station trying to get a kill, and missed.....Wasted a flare, and not even a dent into morale meter....Ontop of that, apparently the wolfies would still be waiting for you to come downstairs even after sleeping 12 hours....It defiantly needs a bump. Recrafting new shells would at least be less questionable and should be simple enough....cardboard, harvesting flares for flare powder, gunpowder, and a bit of scrap metal.....boom. As for the ole blunder buss, I must say that there could be a couple advantages of having it, but yeah a 6lb long arm isn't going to be as good as a revolver. Even if it was offered as a rifle replacement on interloper, it would only be used for BI and ignored the rest of the time. In the end, "IF" they offered the shotgun, it would have to have some advantages compared to all the weapons to be usefull as well as to counter some of the balances.....Maybe they can shoot flares too? . I guess in the end, a shotgun isn't going to fit well into the game. Unless they add carrying capacity, a sled with a shotgun holster, or remove a weapon from the game, its just not going to pan out well.....tis a shame, hunters of all kinds have one thing in common. A massive percentage of them own a 12 gauge.
  18. O.O I didn't even think there was a way to get around parasites, I thought it was a permanent thing and I should completely avoid bear and wolf meat.
  19. A part of my mind just exploded. XD
  20. Should not be hard....maybe a makeshift belt from cured gut and leather?
  21. "Frantically works on cooking skill" I reached about 80% cooking lvl2 once, never noticed if meat lasted longer tho. Im going to have to burn a couple more logs this next run.

    shotgun??

Well.....Trying to find a sound argument here, but I can't honestly. XD Truly trying to hold onto the fact that this is indeed a game. The only real argument I got is its strictly a defense weapon....Right now, the revolver can do both. It can offer offense and defense fairly well. {I have killed bear and moose with it and without getting attacked} Ontop of that, its lightweight and for me, that's better than the rifle. I actually think its a bit more overpowered than the developers was aiming for even though the rifle is more powerful per shot. Now while it fits into the game well {Old school, few moving parts, probably discarded by someone}, Im not a big fan of it. "IF" you manage to find it, a box of ammo, and get out of BI, well....If you die, its due to multiple very poor decisions, or extremely terrible luck. But as for shotguns, you could make an argument that you could craft an extremely simple blunderbuss from scrap metal at the mill, or maybe you can find a old school over and under, or even a super cheap pump action should be just as easy to find. As far as weapon complexity is concerned, shotguns are possibly the simplest weapons to have ever existed. To some degree they was probably what came after the bow and arrow as riffling was not invented for hundreds of years after black powder weapons! . So in conclusion, I actually do feel like a simple shotgun of some type deserves to be in the game......Short range, loud, heavy, difficult to aim, and ammo should be just as heavy or more so than rifle rounds. Not sure if it should be home made, not sure if it should mess with harvesting your target, however I do feel like it deserves a place here. And if no other difficulty other than interloper, I feel it should have a home within the long dark. But it would make for some extreme decision making if it did indeed damage hide's, guts, and meat. Are you willing to waste a highly valuable shell? Are you willing to destroy some or most of the animal your hunting? Or is this a last ditch attempt to run off a wolf, or trying to cull the timber pack to go fix the gun and make more ammo? As a defense weapon, that makes sense ALL around. As a hunting weapon, its much better to use bow, revolver, or flare gun.
  23. I always hunted like the olden days.....Trek through woods, search for quarry, locate safe{ish} ground of opportunity such as a high spot, boulder, or behind multiple trees, wait for the shot, take it, follow up another shot if possible, then start following the blood trail....rinse and repeat as necessary.
